Instead add +<websitename> to the local part of the email adress you enter, e.g. [mike.baker+youtube@example.com](mailto:mike.baker+youtube@example.com) . You will still receive the mails, but you can block them if you want.

How does it work that you still receive the email if its another?

u/Ok-Sympathy-7482 27m ago

Your mail server will filter out the part after the + sign.

I don't care what anyone says, I will try this or put my name with a number to differentiate websites. I bet they will all be guilty

Anyone remember Columbia House? I discovered this by accident with them. They sent you like 5 CD’s for a penny each, but then you had to get a monthly CD of some garbage artist that you paid $19.99 for unless you mailed it back. So youd want the freebies and then unsubscribe after the first month.

I accidentally had a typo in my last name when I signed up. For about 10 years, I was still getting junk mail with that typo in my last name.

I also still have my KT Tunstall CD that I forgot to mail back in time, the only time they got me.

Use a plus sign in your Gmail address instead. Works way better and doesn't trigger form errors.

get a cheap domain with a webmailer and a catch-all-address
Now you email can be [service]@[yourdomain].com
That way you not only know who sold your data, you can also just block incoming mail to that address altogether.

also don't put your name, or birthdate in any of these forms. For most businesses it's non of their business who you are.

I use iOS’s Hide My Email which saves each proxy address used so I know for whom I generated it.
