horseshoe theory gets proven more and more every day

u/GoblinsGuide 59m ago

What is that?

u/madpanda75 56m ago

The far left and the far right are not polar opposites, but are rather closer than they first appear to be...bending together like the ends of a horseshoe

u/Elefanthud 56m ago

Extreme right and extreme left is closer to each other than the center

u/JCTrick 41m ago edited 24m ago

I live in Seattle. It’s a circle. ⭕️ Hippie vegan to red pilled MAHA pipeline is a perfect example.

u/Copious-Spirit 14m ago

America is a silly place

u/JCTrick 9m ago

Fanatical religious people always ruin everything for everyone else around them. Sort of a trademark feature of religion.

u/Reasonable_Archer_99 23m ago

As someone who was stationed in the Puget Sound for 3 years, this is spot on.

u/realkavya 36m ago

when did you take a nap last?

u/tandemxylophone 28m ago

I felt this when I was debating with an American friend why certain spaces and times should be Politics free even if it was about civil rights.

The Left like the idea of freedom of speech when it comes to civil rights. What they don't like to hear is that people on the other side have the exact same right, and a company can be put in a very awkward spot if one is approved but the other isn't.

They were a single issue voter that didn't care if a Politician brought Religion into politics... Because the Religious person was "their" Leftist team, which to me sounds exactly like an alt-right conservative that says the same about why they should shove their religion down down other people's throats.

u/GM-Yrael 20m ago

I've never heard as many actually fascist views as that of American Leftists here on Reddit.

u/MusicianNo3277 12m ago

Careful they might hear you and down vote you in mass for the wrong think

u/GoblinsGuide 55m ago

Ahh okay, thankyou. Much appreciated.

u/BlorpTheSchlorp 50m ago

That's because both are children mentally, but become brattier and more self centered as they age.

Wait until we have more Caitlyn Jenners fighting against their own rights for some common shitty reason in a couple of decades.

u/SimmentalTheCow 21m ago edited 17m ago

The greatest threat to a particular group is always one of their own kind because they know how to hurt you the most, and it lends legitimacy to the opposition. Clarence Thomas (blacks), Caitlyn Jenner (trans), Margaret Thatcher (women), John Brown (whites), Milo Yiannopolous (gays), Roy Cohn (Jews), etc.

u/RightBrain-LeftBrain 56m ago

I think it’s

and if it’s not then I’m still choosing to believe it is.

u/Rosalind_Ruby 10m ago

Ideological opposites somehow ending up in the exact same place.

u/Chemical-Time-9143 7m ago

the only time it's been proven correct.

u/TeaseCloud 58m ago

The only common ground here is that neither group actually read the books.

u/Homerpaintbucket 54m ago

The left wing trans supporters absolutely read Harry Potter back in the day. Do you have any idea how many trans people were inspired to come out by the mirror of erised and realizing if they stayed in the closet they’d waste their life?

u/BlorpTheSchlorp 52m ago

2, possibly 3?

u/Homerpaintbucket 36m ago

Maybe even like double that

u/Huck_Bonebulge_ 51m ago

Yeah they watched her turn into uncle Dursley in real time, shit’s nuts

u/Professional-Help931 27m ago

She always was. Her MC dad was giant ass bully. Her MC was a freaking athlete, that then became a cop.

u/TCAAPix 54m ago

I know three trans women that have a deathly hallows tattoo, a few more lesbians that do as well. The books were wildly popular with queer people in general before Rowling went mask off.

u/RedshiftOnPandy 57m ago

They're really great to read. Too much brain rot today to even listen to the audiobooks

u/Morkamino 48m ago

I'm reading them now for the first time! Well, i started this summer. 1 - 4 is a breeze. People warned me about 5. It feels like i have been working through A LOT of pages and they've still only just arrived at school 🫠

Not a fan of what the new show looks like though, i think i'll pass. It doesn't take a racist to be annoyed by the forced diversity and different style

u/ProxyDamage 34m ago

That's because 1-4 are by far the best part of the series. They're when Rowling is focusing on just showing off her quirky, whimsical, magical world. Very surface level exploration, just letting you walk around the funhouse, as it were.

That's what she's good at. REALLY good.

Book 5 is her trying to do character writing and go deeper into the plot and... yep, it fucking sucks.

Books 6-7 get better, because at least she gets back on the main plot, but... She's honestly just not a very good writer. Her plot falls the fuck apart if you give it more than a quick glance.

She has tried writing "more serious" books after and, yep, they suck too.

u/CrazyCalligrapher945 26m ago

Wait so it's not just me? I was totally lost in book 5 and didn't know wtf was happening lol.

u/ProxyDamage 20m ago

No, it's not just you. Book 5 is a pile of dogshit.

I've read the first 4 books like 4 times each. Book 5 I quit halfway through the first time around, something I basically never do, and took me years before I went back to finish it.

Books 6 and 7 do get better, because they're at least ok, but jesus is book 5 a worthless waste of time.

u/mightiestmag 47m ago

On the other hand the new audiobooks with full cast is excellent

u/workieworkwork 48m ago

I am not sure why you think left wing trans supporters didn't read as children? That isn't a stereotype. The left wing is full of readers. The anti-woke right wing has a reputation for poor media literacy, anti intellectualism and banning books.

u/GucciTheSnowman 38m ago

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

u/workieworkwork 29m ago

You should try to explain your reasoning.

u/TheRightKost 43m ago

Poor reading comprehension. The comment you replied to said "the books" as in the Harry Potter books, not any and all books.

Have you missed the incessant handwringing from that crowd over JK Rowling?

u/cybiz 21m ago

When the books came out Rowling's views were unknown. The first one was released in 1997. Lots of people read and supported her until she came out as a transphobe. Your post is idiotic

u/A-NI95 2m ago

Indeed, much of the backlash comes from people (rightfully) feeling betrayed. The books seemed to instill a progressive message after all, even if somewhat superficial

u/workieworkwork 27m ago

JK has only been losing it for like 4-6 years, don't remember exactly when. Even the youngest adults were old enough to read Harry Potter before she got weird.

Were you just looking for a nitpick, your comment barely makes any sense.

u/Ghost4000 11m ago

A major reason that crowd is mad is because they feel invested in the franchise because they did read it and loved it.

u/only_Q 53m ago

I did! I actually loved them, I even went to Universal Studios and had merch, wrote fanfiction etc. But after JKR started getting loud and proud with her hate I put Harry Potter behind me for good.

u/l339 40m ago

You should’ve put it behind you when you became an adult lol

u/captain_toenail 43m ago

Thats deeply ignorant to say

u/Chemical-Time-9143 6m ago

The fact that Merope r*ped Tom Riddle Sr is in a children's book series is so messed up. I'm a leftist who was an HP fan growing up.

u/EvanFri 40m ago

If you think the left does not read when it has arguably the richest and densest intellectual works in philosophy/political theory/history, just proves you don't read any book from anyone on the left. Marxist literature alone has affected every country on this earth. There is not a single right-wing figure who influenced others through literature to that extent because right-wingers do not read.

u/EspikCZ 35m ago

Not really. Mein Kampf was pretty popular and definitely right-wing.

If the book was actually read is another question. Since it's full of BS, you are probably right regarding the reading part.

u/EvanFri 30m ago edited 22m ago

Mein Kampf has very limited appeal in the rest of the world outside of Europe compared to Marxism. Additionally, Mein Kampf does not require much reading comprehension to understand either. So casual or non readers can understand it fairly easily. Marx's literature is on the difficulty level of the classics (which makes sense because Marx got a PhD in western philosophy).

Marx assisted in giving many colonized countries (virtually all of the global south) a relatable language and ideology to discuss their oppression/exploitation from the Europeans. There were many marxist inspired movements in all of these countries. Even China alone which is home to more people than all of Europe is certainly marxist inspired. Marx has statues at top Chinese universities just as Newton and Darwin do too.

u/warinpocket 33m ago

That's also ignorant to say. Majority of right-wingers are generation x and above. Those generations grew up on reading because they had nothing else to do with their time. They actually had to go to the library to research for school papers because internet just wasn't a thing.

u/EvanFri 20m ago

That is my dad's generation and he is right wing. Never seen him read a book in his life lmao. Additionally, if you look at right-wing news outlets and how they write, they write for people with like a 3rd grade reading level. If you compare that to NYT, which caters to a more intellectually demanding audience, you will see right-wing outlets like Fox (who have a more elderly audience) knows their audience can barely read.

I am not saying NYT is left-wing but I am saying that right-wing outlets typically write for those with low reading comprehension. Even books by people like Ben Shapiro are written for the uneducated village idiot

u/Absolutepowers 8m ago

The bias and anecdotal is oozing out of this post

u/Cellafex 43m ago

Really cool we living in times where everything needs to be either this or that.

Personally I never thought much of it, its just a kids story. Not really having any horse in the race here.

u/Various_Artistss 54m ago

Honestly I just don't want to support these pointless remakes. The og films are perfectly fine.

Needless remakes are a waste of everyone's time.

u/phantom_miragee 41m ago

Warner Bros refuses to let anything rest

u/Alej_11 30m ago

They are a bit old, it's probably to gain more money from the old fans and to attract the gen alpha to the series.

Also it's a good way to resolve some of the problems the last films had, because it's objectively difficult adapting 500+ pages books in films, so with a series they can be more book accurate and adapt iconic moments that were skipped.

I'm not against the idea, tbf the first film came out more than 20 years ago, but I can understand why fans don't really care of a remake.

u/Crimestar 56m ago

People not watching a kids show and pretending it’s because of some supportive cause and not just because you have better shit to do.

u/Hyperion262 55m ago

They don’t have better shit to do and they’re still going to watch it.

u/fancywipe 30m ago

I have better shit to do but you best believe when that new Shrek hits I’m cancelling all plans for that!!!!

Why can’t the small tiny group just accept people are not for this new aged shit no matter how it’s packaged

u/extra_croutons 52m ago

I stopped liking hairy potter around 15, like a normal person

u/Alej_11 38m ago

So if someone still likes his favourite childhood books he's not normal, uh

u/thefuzzione 8m ago

They say this while debating topics around zootopia.. dumb as fuck

u/ConflatedPortmanteau 39m ago

Aren't you frequently on Sopranos subreddits?

New Jersey mob boss fiction isn't any less silly than Wizard fiction.

u/CrazyCalligrapher945 38m ago

Mf would say this then go crazy over a freaking spiderman or pokemon lol

u/Burgerboy380 41m ago

If Alan Rickman isnt snape then im just not interested.

u/aukstais 27m ago

It will be a popular show. There are more people in the middle than on both far political spectrums. And most of the people consume media without putting political thoughts in it. They consume media as a distraction from politics and real life. They dont try to connect fictional media and characters to real life.

u/thefuzzione 12m ago

I’m so over the woke shit ima watch it just cuz they say don’t

u/GucciTheSnowman 40m ago

You don't have to be racist to hate wokies.

u/mintgoody03 24m ago

You need to know the history of "woke" and "left" to know that they aren't the same and have nothing to do with each other.

u/hamfist_ofthenorth 55m ago edited 17m ago

I just don't care.

I grew up reading the books as they came out, I'm exactly the age of the actors in the movies which, of course I also saw as they came out.

I played the videogames. I read the script of cursed child, just to see.

Aaand, now I'm all done! Isn't that great? Best franchise ever, there isn't [quite] 24 side movies and spinoff TV shows like Star wars...

u/workieworkwork 45m ago

The Cursed Child was real bad.

u/ProxyDamage 27m ago

there isn't 24 side movies and spinoff TV shows like Star wars...

... That's really funny given that Cursed Child, all the Fantastic Beasts movies, the "Companion Books", the games...

If they haven't done "24 side movies" it's only because they haven't had the chance yet.

u/TotalACast 35m ago edited 20m ago

I guess it's equally stupid in both cases so there's that.

Harry Potter is not some Satanic Anti-Christian manifesto designed to turn children into heavy metal worshiping slaves of Lucifer.

Nor is JK Rowling some kind of Anti-LGBT transphobic bigot who has made it her life's mission to destroy marginalized people just because she fights for women's rights.

People don't actually read what she's saying. She was abused by her first husband and had to seek a women's shelter in order to protect herself and a daughter from a violent man who was trying to kill her. Access to the shelter saved her life.

Now many of these same British shelters are Trans inclusive aka they allow men, and women report that they no longer feel safe using them and they've become a joke. This is sacrificing women's safety and well being on the altar of political correctness and inclusivity and Rowling is absolutely right to fight back against it.

u/maxru85 58m ago

On which side the old farts who think the old one was good enough?

u/nogieman2324 56m ago

Both are gonna watch anyway lol plus the company's gonna earn from them either way from other movies.

u/workieworkwork 46m ago

Why do you think people want to watch the new Harry Potter show? I loved Harry Potter as a kid and have no interest in it at all.

u/Powerful_Document872 35m ago

Reddit isn’t real life. Harry Potter is still popular despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

u/workieworkwork 30m ago

Sure people like Harry Potter, I don't know anyone who wants to watch the show. I haven't heard anyone at all mention it in real life.

u/Hartax_ 7m ago

The show is kind of weirdly unknown despite how big it is suppose to be

u/Ghost4000 0m ago

Okay, but what about our actual experiences outside reddit. I know of multiple people who will not watch the show for a variety of reasons.

It's very possible the show will still do well but the idea that people online are gonna see it anyway doesn't make sense unless there is proof of it.

u/nogieman2324 39m ago

You're not the target audience then. Neither HBO nor any other big corporation has to cater to every demographic at a time.

Some people won't watch, some people would. Similarly, they'd make some other media which some demographic finds interesting while some other won't. At the end, they're still gonna get pretty good returns on their investments.

Btw I loved harry Potter as a kid as well, but don't have much interest in this one. BUT that's because I've got my hands full with work and other stuff which I find more worthwhile.

u/workieworkwork 26m ago

Every show isn't guaranteed to succeed. I don't think this one will.

u/nogieman2324 24m ago

succeed in the sense of not earning overwhelming profits.

almost every media they produce does get enough returns to cover their investments.

u/Skeptical_Monkie 42m ago

What about people who just don’t care?

u/Unlikely-Ad6788 15m ago

No interest in either.

u/VoidCL 10m ago

You need to add another arm in there that says normal people as well.

u/acrus 8m ago

That's a solid sign that the show is worth checking out

u/A-NI95 3m ago

🤝 People bored of the same regurgitated media nostalgia

u/Ghost4000 2m ago

Personally I was never a Harry Potter fan. I've seen the movies because my wife was, now she's not, so I'm not going to see the show.

u/SpecialistMap8210 41m ago

JK Rowling is awesome.

u/Neaderthar 56m ago

Lol I refuse to watch all Harry Potter so there!

u/riggerz123 44m ago

Can’t wait for it personally

u/l339 41m ago

How about you’re an adult now and you’re not gonna watch a show meant for kids?

u/thefuzzione 9m ago

I bet you’re saying this while standing in front of a Pokemon vending machine

u/KorolEz 58m ago

Regular adult that just doesn't watch shows intended for children and teenagers

u/RightBrain-LeftBrain 54m ago

get some whimsy in your life mf

https://giphy.com/gifs/M13G8Iq8OHOZG

u/KorolEz 52m ago

I watched the movies as a kid and read the books. What exactly would I get out of watching the show?

u/Organic_Honey_7416 54m ago

Watch it if you want, don’t watch it if you don’t want to…..

u/DedeLionforce 40m ago

I just don't think it will be sufficiently different to merrit watching when the original series holds up just fine. I genuinely don't understand the reason to dump so much time, money and effort into remaking Harry Potter movies when nobody is asking for it, at least the other movies brought something new, even if it wasn't amazing.

u/RetroZelda 36m ago

first 2 movies were pretty close to the books, so the first 2 seasons of the show will probably feel familiar. after that, the movies strayed a long way from the books so the show will feel fresh.

u/DedeLionforce 33m ago

Oh ok, I just thought it was going to be a remake of the movies, but if it's gonna be different then I can understand it.

u/T10rock 15m ago

I'm refusing because it's a pointless rehash of a story that wasn't that good to start with
