The fact that you guys take this sort of thing as normal, that you live in the same country but in completely separate realities, is just so sad and funny to me at the same time.

I don't think I can think of any other country in the world where a state border separates people as much as the US. And for some unexplainable reason Americans seem to believe this is a positive thing.

The United States were originally meant to be a concept more like the European Union, with a common economic system, free trade, and freedom of movement, but their own separate governing systems otherwise.

If you think of the California and New York like the Netherlands and Italy for example, you have a better approximation of what the US was aiming for.

Plenty of European countries are more culturally similar than some states in the US are to one another. That’s not very surprising.
