I had a boss once who asked me specifics about me being sick (idk what his problem was). I already told him I had diarrhea but I guess that wasn't an acceptable answer, so I took a picture of the insane amounts of diarrhea that I just made in my toilet and sent it to him. Bro had the audacity to tell me that was inappropriate lmfaooooo

Some things are just not done over the phone by civilized people. Next time, consider mailing it to them.

go the extra mile and do both. Slap a picture on the outside to warn people, and fill a spring loaded tube with the evidence.

I once had c. diff and had to wear an adult diaper. My boss tried to give me a hard time for calling out but quickly backpedaled when I told her about the diaper.

I train my managers/bosses to not bother asking me for time-off specifics, by never answering when they do try it lol

Speaking as someone who has myself managed a lot:

No one gives a shit anymore about managers being qualified. Either at hiring or while in the position. They care more about not having to pay them a lot. As well as not "wasting" money on training/supervising them properly.

But I work in hospitality. So it may be/is probably an industry specific problem. Or a more amplified issue compared to other industries.

Edit: and training from below is very risky. I wouldn't recommend it.

I remember I used to work with kids and got the stomach virus. Was throwing up and having diarrhea. My boss STILL wanted me to come to work. Then drilled me about responsibility when I said no. Yeah so, 1. I’m not going to be working around kids in this condition and 2. The chances of me vomitting and having diarrhea during my commute and during teaching is highly likely. Imagine what their parents would say if they heard of me being around their kids like this.
