Dealing with an aiptasia outbreak and aiptasia shot made a painful job very easy, aiptasia actually hate it i noticed when you hit them with it they take it in and a few seconds later they actually push it out, it's hard to explain kind of like a sneeze where they push it out as they shrivel up, success rate id say 90%+ for me.

For a comparison aiptasia x was around 60-70% success rate for me.

Aiptasia shot is worth a try if your dealing with pest anemones.

12+ months later and TV still standing. I don’t recommend it but it’s doable. 😂

Could use some words of encouragement, generally just people who understand.

Unfortunately I topped my 28 gallon biocube aquarium off with a little too much freshwater last night and it caused a drastic oxygen failure within the tank. I woke up this morning and my pair of mated clowns were dead, mated banghai cardinals were dead, and the only survivors gasping for life were my blenny and painted clown goby.

Months and months of work and pairing the clownfish up, watching them every single day when I woke up and seeing their personalities grow and they establish themselves, all gone in under 12 hours. All the levels otherwise are fine, thousands of dollars in coral unharmed.

I feel like an empty husk. Like a giant chunk of my heart was just carved out and I can't stop blaming myself for everything. I loved my fish like they were my absolute best friends and I am having an insanely hard time getting through the morning. My brain is wanting to quit everything but I know I have so much living stuff in my reef tanks, I just can't get over the fact that I killed my friends.

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it, but otherwise I guess I just needed a place to talk. My heart is overflowing with grief and remorse and I can't stop blaming myself for their deaths.

[Pic] Yellow tang in a 110 gallon 4ft long tank?

I have read numerous threads and talked to multiple people in the industry about this but is this tank size okay for a yellow tang, and I know obviously the longer the better.

Another Red Sea Tank Failure. A 650 Max that is less than 5 years old.

This is a tank I setup for a client during Covid. They have an autistic daughter who loves the tank. I have serviced it for close to 5 years. It (was) a beautiful, thriving reef full of fish and coral. Now it is empty and their living room flooded.

On Saturday night I got a frantic call from them. Literally screaming in despair as their tank was emptying out onto the floor. The right front seal had come loose. Thankfully, they managed to wrap the edge in duct tape and maintain some water in the tank long enough for help to get there. Also good news is that all of the fish and coral survived and are in my holding tanks. But if they weren’t home? Can you imagine how bad this would have been?

At this point, after dealing with a couple of Red Sea failures myself and seeing the stories from every corner of the internet (including this sub) as well as local stores near me, I will never recommend a Red Sea tank again. To anyone. Buy this brand at your own peril.

This tank was less than 5 years old with almost no signs that this would happen. I checked the seams regularly because I was worried due to the stories, and they never showed much sign of wear (just a tiny bit of necrosis on the tip of the seam, but I’d consider that normal for any aging tank). I feel like I have let my clients down by even recommending this brand of tank to them. I just wanted to share this story so that we have a record of all these tanks failing in case someone wants to start a class action suit against Red Sea. Enough is enough.

I know eventually most clownfish will pick a host. And I know it’s exactly rare they pick zoas…. But these two just crack me up. Sleeping on their bed of “flowers”.

Since they decided my zoa garden was their home they never venture far from it now.

GSPs are finally encrusting their way onto the back wall :D I have a royal gramma, yellow watchmen goby, bicolor blenny, blue neon goby, and 2 paired super storm clownfish. (Amongst my skunk shrimp, turbo snail, few nassarius snails, little hermis, and bumblebee snails) coralline blooming everywhere and almost fully encrusting all my rock now, super healthy. 🪸

D-D thermostat issues

Hi folks,

Anyone experienced this issue with a D-D thermostat?

It’s beeping almost constantly and the temperature seems be be oscillating by .5 of a degree up and down. Thermostat does still seems to get a reading cause if I hold it in my hand it goes up body temperature.

My target temp is 25.6 with a 2 degree chiller tolerance (no chiller fitted), and 0.3 heater tolerance and a 1.5 alarm tolerance.

[Pic] Low calcium but alk and Mg are good.

Post image

Just looking for some thoughts on the best way to fix this issue?

My calcium is testing at around 310ppm with a brand new salifert kit. My magnesium is at 1320ppm. kH is 8-9.

I have been dosing carbonate to maintain kH.

Tank is 32 gallon + 8 gallon sump.

I have not tested calcium for a while as I dont have any stoney corals except a single candy cane polyp. So I was not expecting Ca to be consumed much.

The tank does have some large soft corals and a bunch of anemones.

Im wondering whats consuming the calcium without consuming magnesium, and what the best way to bring my calcium up might be?

Photo so you can see the corals.

Who has used a storage bin for a sump refugium? I dont have a drilled tank, nor a good stand to have a sump under.

What would the main issues, hurdles be using a storage bin, a good one...

Thanks

[Pic] AIO Refugiums?

Post image
Upvotes

I saw that UNS has their own refugium insert with built-in housing for a light (which is dope) and I've heard that it's compatible with other brands' AIOs but what are some other options for hiding a refugium in an AIO? I'm guessing a model with sump/filtration in the back would allow for more than a side mounted one?

[Pic] To reactor or not to reactor ?

Post image
Upvotes

Bunch of reefing community saying dont bother buying a reactor, just do this and that. Well, none of that helped and using phosphate e to bring it down slowly but i prefer heading in the right direction once.

Currently using kolar gfo hc in baggies in high flow intake of refugium, but I think a reactor would easily fix this issue. Any suggestions on reactors working or not against phosphate?

60 Gallon Breeder Reef stocking ideas

Upvotes

I'm building my first reef and looking for advice and ideas for CUC/fish/corals to get started. Trying to build a colorful set-up, so feel free to share photos of your reefs and let me know your favorite colorful fish or coral.

Planning to use an Imagitarium 60 Gallon Breeder Tank with a Fiji Cube AIO kit.

Also if someone is looking to exit the hobby then I'm in the market to buy used equipment. Thanks!

The babies have started appearing everywhere. I dont even bother about the ones in my filter chamber but i know they survive in there

The Pandoras are unkillable. They only splinter and will move across the rock in 3-4 days if they need to

Plumbing Question/Advice

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi guys,

I am preparing the plumbing for my tank and a friend of mine has a gate valve he was using it in his previous tank he said I can take it!
My question is it doesn’t look like the one BRS sell! Can I use it for the tank?

Also my intake is 1in this is 3/4, is it safe to use a 3/4” x 1” reducing coupler on both sides and then 1” pvc with both 1”union on both sides?

Thanks anyone for the help in advance!
