Yesterday she called me to tell me she "got into trouble at work for saying [r-word]..." and this was the second time she's been reprimanded for saying wild stuff at work. This is coming from a person who, when we worked at the same place, would complain to me about the dude that would say the craziest stuff and then complain he got reprimanded for it. She's smart. (high IQ in school kinda smart, you know? Lots of RAM in that noggin) and this is where she's at. I'm feeling the grief. She was my last family member. My mom and the rest of my blood relatives are still alive, but they are all Q or MAGA or some weird KKK/Don't Tread On Me kind of configuration. I'm trans, so you can guess how that goes. I'm also old, so I have perspective enough that, while the wind is out of my sails, I'm not going to stay stuck here. But the feeling sucks and the grief is real because I know there's usually no way back from this. At some point, the *adrenochrome* stories will seem like the mild stuff. She's a Rapturist. Evangelical, concerned with human blood lines and breeding (yes, the *eugenics* bullshit). She didn't start out hard that way, but she's there, her son, her husband, everybody. All of em. I was hoping I could keep her in my life, but nope. Arm's length at best.
