I wrote a long post about my previous iteration of this project that explains a lot of my thought process and history behind it. Converting it to work on plotters took a lot major code refactor and other experimentation and so I'll need to write an update soon.

I am super happy with how these magnets that I have been working on turned out!

I print a full sheet of flow fields using different pens to showcase their texture and physicality. Then I laminate them and cut them into 2 inch circles that are ready to be press around my 3D printed parts.

I designed all of the 3D printed parts, press pieces, packaging, as well as the code that generates the flow fields.

I haven't perfected my process but I've modified a 3d printer and clobbered together some software do design and plot these cycloids.

Inspired by Joe Freedman's Cycloid drawing machines and this simulation code: https://github.com/jbum/CycloidDrawingMachine by Jim Bumgardner.

It's a very cool image, but not quite where I want it to be. The plotter had some kind of fit while plotting and drew a dotted line across the image! I think I need to replot this, but this will do for now :)

A couple plots I managed to finish after work tonight on the 2436.

I ordered a Artframe 2436.
Paid $256.00 to have it shipped to me.
It did not work.
I paid $200.00 to ship it back and was charged a restocking fee of $378.00
In all I lost $834.00 doing business with Bantam tools.

Tech support told me to hang onto it for a month “I’ll even extend your warranty 30 extra days” he told me. I reminded him, per Bantams return policy, that was not possible because it states if I use the machine I cannot return it.
I find this very unethical and will be filing a complaint with the BBB

The first pic is the condition of the box when it arrived. I did not cut that tape, it was busted that way. That’s how long that machine had been sitting around somewhere for. The second pic is me paying for it to be boxed and sent back properly.

PLOTTERZINE 11 is a fully plotted art zine (and yes, there are other PLOTTERZINEs - check out https://www.instagram.com/plotterzine/ ). This one uses a staple-less punch to bind the pages, and is plotted using Tsukineko Ultramarine Blue ink with an AxiDraw V3/A3. Available for trade.

Here are the 50 prints heading out to my subscribers this month together in one animation, running forward and back. I slowly increased the offset spacing of each color by .01" in a staggered rhythm to create the effect. Had no idea how it would look strung together and pleased with how it flows. I do need to improve my photography and stitching process but lots learned from these.

Hi all, I've seen quite a few DIY plotters with tool change being posted recently, so I figured I could share ours as well :)

Details:
- Frame is built from 2020 aluminum extrusions, roughly 80 by 60 cm.
- Plotting area is A2.
- Z axis is using a stepper motor for fast, precise and quiet operation.
- Controller is currently Arduino + CNC shield + vanilla GRBL.
- Pen change mechanism uses magnets and existing axes (X,Y). 5 pens max, currently.
- Data source for maps is OSM/MapTiler, with a custom web application for layer selection, styling and gcode generation.

Plotted on an uunatek A3 using micron pigmas 01 and 03. Self-coded image vectorization.

Posted some of these before, but finally completed the set of them. All based on Kakeya sets with variable needle lengths, sweeps, and some transforms. Really happy with what I got to explore. Various papers, Bristol, plain, and markers, pens, paint pens, and mixtures of them.

One continuous plot, 5 different pens, all in 10 minutes using my automatic tool changer system.

Learned a new 3D to 2D workflow. Exploring more of this style further.

11"x14" – Gold leaf and Sakura gel white on Fabriano Black Black 300gsm. White is plotted with the iDraw H A3. Gold leaf is applied to fill the remaining space by hand.

I continue to test my CNC milling machine. I will leave a short video presentation of the process in the comments below.

As promised I made a larger format of the IsoCity Cyberpunk city. This time on A2. This took the better part of a day, but I'm fairly happy with it. Still some improvements to be made to get it just right. Hope you like it!
