I've found these guys are about as easy to breed as bristlenose plecos and in almost the same conditions.

Im surprised you got them to breed in a low flow tank

Got any nice smooth river rocks in there? That’s what they like, males want to establish their own territories & both sexes like to have some shelter. It stops the squabbling.

Assorted rocks like so, or in a smaller tank it could look more like this. Big pile of assorted smooth rocks basically lol

My hillstream loaches (three females) are the most aggressive critters in my tank, including a pair of kribensis - it’s a good thing that their aggression is so ineffectual.

Yes it’s good, however one algae eater we had did pass recently. The tank and everything else were fine so we thought aggression may have caused it

Love the Moai!

What is that? A fish?

Hillstream loaches, a group of weird little fish species from fast moving waters!

Everyone else looks like they have something invested.....must be placing bets on the winner 😜

I don’t think that’s the right end for mating

if you’re really compatible with someone all 3 of those words, practically, mean the same thing

u/SatanAlreadyWon 12d ago

Or if you’re really incompatible. 😭

Mad beefs.

They're so cute when they're angy. Can't take them serious.

Hey whats your average water temperature i want to buy these couple.

u/unhappy-product-2003 12d ago

It’s low 70s

u/KennyMoose32 12d ago

Lower 70s but as long as you have a ton of oxygen being pumped into the water they can survive most temps.

It’s more about oxygen than flow, but they def need cooler temps

u/avemflamma 12d ago

literally where did they say they are for sale.

u/sidetablecharger 12d ago

Maybe they are meaning to say “I want to buy a couple of these.”

u/themegainferno 12d ago

I don't think he was wanting to buy OP's fish. I think he meant to say "I want to buy a couple of these."

u/Riskwars 12d ago

Im thinking of setting up a tank again after my move, what are these?

u/Zephronias 12d ago

Hillstream loaches. They need a lot of water flow.

u/Single-Artist-5981 12d ago

They dont. They just need highly oxygenated water

u/random0rdinary 12d ago

They don't. I used to have them on a low water flow setup, and they used to breed readily enough.
So long as you have a well matured tanks, with a lot of flat or round surfaces with biofilm.

u/The_McS 13d ago

It’s territorial but harmless with these guys.

u/Amerlan 13d ago

Two males sparring. No need to worry though, they physically cannot harm each other. Their mouths aren't right for grabbing and they have no spikes to hurt each other with like plecos do. You may even see them tackling each other. They should settle in a few days.

u/Chronoglenn 12d ago

Mine tackle each other months later in my 60 gallon. The biggest is such a bully!

u/porcubot 13d ago

can you imagine showing up to a territory dispute but you both brought pillows instead of guns

u/DonutWhole9717 12d ago

That sounds like a key and peele sketch

u/MyDogIsCalledMilo 13d ago

Those are both male ✌️

u/unhappy-product-2003 12d ago
