This joke hits harder since one of the most important potions they make, in multiple books, is the poly juice potion (or whatever it's called) that allows people to turn into someone else. I think it's used in at least 3 of the books.
I highly doubt JKR thought of the implications when she wrote that part, this is the woman who wrote in legal date-rape drugs. Must be kicking herself now though.
