Y isn't a vowel

Accept that Y is sometimes a vowel, or a bunch of words don't have a vowel in them.

I feel like we were always taught “sometimes y” as when it’s a vowel, but weren’t taught when.

If Y starts a word, it is a consonant. If it is anywhere else in the word, it is a vowel. (There are probably exceptions to this rule, but it would have been so easy to teach this as a generality)

But yes, usually it's a consonant at the beginning and a vowel elsewhere.

Good examples, thanks for the correction. Most (English) language rules have exceptions, so I figured I wasn’t thinking of some words
