I’m typically good at spelling but I do tend to still get “recommend” wrong pretty often

I remember it because it's the word "commend" but you're doing it again. So you're re-commending something.

But…. Commend means to tell someone good job and recommend means to suggest something ?

Commend just means to praise something or give someone or something credit. So you are re-commending something to someone else.
