u/Relevant-Fox-7114 4d ago

Spoken like someone who isnt preoccupied with 1985

u/IBeDumbAndSlow 4d ago

Lmao that's fucking hilarious.

u/dj_dobbo 4d ago

Huh look at the print in the background... imagine being an HR Giger fan and getting these instead of a sick ass xenomorph or Li tattoo.

Giger liked to draw filthy minges as well! Look at the xenomorph egg

u/5exlexia5ufferer 4d ago

Well in that case

u/dj_dobbo 4d ago

Oh yeah he did... but the eggs look nothing like any minges I've ever seen tbh, maybe I've dated the wrong girls! Some of his other art, certainly.

The facehuggers on the other hand (no pun intended) are like intersex genitals with witches fingers, and I think they're one of the most macabre and gruesome creatures I've ever seen on film. And I fucking love them.

His art isn't for everyone, but just seeing these reactions to my comment shows that it's making people feel something. Which is more than can be said for the vast majority of monsters in most horror/sci-fi since the first few Alien films.

u/dj_dobbo 4d ago edited 4d ago

Ah, it's ok to be a philistine... but to say that a xenomorph is simply an "anthropomorphic penis" and to claim that it's remotely similar to a generic star, is lazy as hell.

First off, it's just the head that is phallic, the rest of the alien isn't. And the facehuggers are purposefully designed to look like vulva/vaginas, and they also "rape" the victim with the tube and impregnate them. Would you be happier with an "intersex facehugger" tattoo?

This shit is amazing symbolism, but tbh it isn't really a big part of the films, no sexual apsects were ever discussed - it was done as subtext to push the body horror/helpless host aspects even further, and to great effect.

Just the fact that you think it's comparable to a generic star, shows how little you understand about the subtext of the character design/lore and the films (if you've even seen them). Some films are engineered to make you feel uncomfortable, it's kind of the point of this type of body horror.

Don't forget that Ripley is one of the finest written female characters in all of cinema, that ties in with the primal aspect of the alien's design and behaviour and how she can triumph over them. Also the motherly/protective behaviour she shows with Newt and the Alien Queen, and also with the Alien clone Ripley 8, in Alien Resurrection.

Hey check out the album cover for "Frankenchrist" if you really wanna get your knickers in a twist! I'm thinking this style of art and cinema is just not for you tbh, but doesn't mean it isn't objectively artistic and interesting.

u/Brief_Zombie8127 4d ago

Chud wrote a paragraph seething that someone would dare draw a connection between a xenomorph and an anthropomorphic penis

u/sabertoothdog 4d ago

What is bad about a star?

u/renesys 4d ago

Birthmachine!

u/dj_dobbo 4d ago

One of his sickest pieces, less airbrushy style than the later stuff but the pen and ink works so well with the mechanical imagery

u/renesys 4d ago

If I had fuck it levels of money, I would have the baby sculpture.

u/dontwantthisapp2 4d ago

Aw man… are these usurping tribal tattoos as the “normie thinks he’s edgy” tattoos?

Because I have one…

It was 20 years ago though! They weren’t lame yet!

…they became lame when idiots like me skipped school to go get a tattoo in 2006…

u/Spobobich 4d ago

Yikes! 😬

u/DrawTheWorld 4d ago

Powerpuff Stars.

u/Talgrath 4d ago

Wow, I've never seen these on someone's arm. I've only seen them above someone's genitals or as a tramp stamp and only on porn stars.

u/WolverineJive_Turkey 4d ago

I wanted a couple of red/black ones on my collar bones when I was 15 cause M. Shadows of A7x had them. Thank god my parents were staunchly anti-tattoo. By the time I was 18 I no longer listened to a7x and did not get these tattooed.

u/Steampson_Jake 4d ago

Oooh... "Tat" as in tattoo, not "cheap junk"

u/Useful_Advice_3175 4d ago

Starfish !!

u/Bikeface_killa 4d ago

That's a horrible waste of some good real estate. . .

u/Donald-Pump 4d ago

To me, these just scream "I was punk/emo in the 2000s!" They were trendy at the time, but they were just another phase that everyone grew out of.

u/Rohan_Riders 4d ago

That poor HR Gieger poster. Deserves better

u/jampapi 4d ago

A classmate had a crucifix in this style on his entire fucking forearm. I saw it at school and thought “oh, no! He forgot to not do that!”

u/Sunflower-redemption 4d ago

Me too. I have the pink one on each inner ankle.

u/michonne_impossible 4d ago

I have one too! Lol.

But I was apprenticing at a tattoo shop (20 years ago) and wanted to practice straight lines, so I did it on the side of my foot.

I'm not ashamed of it though. It's like a little picture book of my life. "And on page 20, it's a nautical star. The first tattoo I ever did on myself." I don't tattoo anymore, but it's a little reminder of who/where I was years ago. I'm ok that it's not "cool" anymore, because neither am I. 😂

u/Dry-Manufacturer7761 4d ago

Never seen a good one. Lol

u/Sephyrias 4d ago

My first thought when I saw OP's image was a reference to star chips from Yugioh, but this is clearly something else.

u/spammmmmmmmy 4d ago

Could somebody explain why this is such an unusually bad tattoo?

I've only seen 2 or 3 in my life that I thought were OK - generally don't like tattoos. But as far as imagery, plain geometric shapes score pretty high I'd think.

u/No_Atmosphere8146 4d ago

Surely it's not as bad as the forefinger mousatche tattoo.

u/RoanW0lf 3d ago

2 more and he'll have the infinity gauntlet.

u/larah91_VP 4d ago

😍😍😍😍

u/sabertoothdog 4d ago

I like them, what’s wrong with them? Is it something weirdos just jump on the “cool to hate” bullshit like Nickleback?
