I’ve never worked at a credit card fraud center, but I would wager the long pause was them marking the activity as non-fraudulent in the system and not judging OOP for late night dinners.
You have to think that between all the men reporting fraud on pay-per-view pornography to hide it from their wives, iPad kids running up quadruple digit micro transactions, and actual fraud that some late night pizza is barely gonna register.

I got a call when I wanted to rent an apartment. 2 times my payment didn't come through and I was annoyed and spammed the transaction out of anger.
I got a call from a nice lady. Once I said it's my first rent payment and I'm not being held hostage she laughed. My payment came through right after

Sounds like a Domino's in Miami, which close at 1 AM five days a week and at 2 AM for two days. Whereas up here in Jacksonville it's midnight closing five days a week and 1 AM the other two.

They wouldn't. They'd expect the person to say no so they can offer to "help get their money back" in an attempt to get account information from them.

My bank has called me before to confirm purchases that they deemed suspicious because I was on vacation or something at the time, it’s not unreasonable to get a call from your bank for 3 midnight dominos runs in a row, especially if they’re in an area you don’t normally reside in

Yeah I once participated in a charity action on a blog that I followed (cakewrecks!) to donate 1 dollar a day for 10 days to a different charity every day. So on day 5 my bank called because paying slightly less than 1 euro every day, to a different American bank account each time, is very suspicious activity, even if it's a very low amount of money.
I explained, and they said they'd let the last payment go through, but did ask me to stop, because it would keep flagging up every day.

My bank had a promo for gift cards and their app had a link that directed you to the promo. Fraud alert declined every purchase I tried making with it. Even their help center couldn't figure out why it was flagged

If it was a scammer though how would they know about the pizzas? Unless they somehow got your banking login info in the call and logged in before confirming any purchases.

Wait! What? They called you? A few years ago in mid-December my debit card kept getting declined but I had a decent balance when I checked. I called my bank and they said it was suspicious that there were so many purchases in Virginia. Sure, I opened the account in the state where the bank was based but had lived in VA for several years. I asked the CSR to check my address on their records et voila account hold released.

I bought a new computer and not even a acknowledgement via text on such a large purchase. The next day I got a drink at a gas station and they flagged my account and locked it lol

Years ago my brother went to an absolute hood convenience store coming back from Windsor to buy beer and his card was declined. Driving down the road his bank called and asked if it was really him because the place was so shitty they never thought he would go there.

I was in the states once and went to a US branch of my Canadian bank to withdraw funds at the ATM there
My bank account was immediately locked and then spent an hour on the phone with the fraud department to confirm that I am actually in the states at their US branch trying to withdraw money.
Now I have a US bank account with my bank so it doesn't happen again
