what happened here is the tip was $11 and the total was $70. The employee added their discount before running the card so that the tip became $25 and the total was still $70... which they would have gotten away with if they gave the customer the signature copy and the original itemized copy but instead they gave the customer the updated itemized copy with the discount

yeah but for you to know, the server would be risking their job and fraud / embezzlement charges so better to keep you out of the loop

Excuse me, that sounds pretty unhuman like to me. They need to be paid a decent wage.
