I knew a guy that worked at a casino a long time ago and he told me the only way to make money at a casino is to count cards, or get good at poker and take it from casual players.

I used to work at one of those casinos. The issue wasn’t that the casinos weren’t profitable, it was that they weren’t profitable enough to overcome the interest on the debt burden that was placed on the parent company during the financing of the original construction.
