Before I got a job, I was always so hyped for the idea of serving on jury duty. But then I realized that I wouldn’t be compensated the same amount as if I was at work. While I could use PTO for it, then that means less PTO for fun stuff
If this ever happens to you, when the summons comes in- request a note from your employer’s HR department that states jury duty would be considered unpaid time off. You can submit it before the date of your summons as evidence of financial hardship that would occur if you came in or were selected. A lot of the times this is enough to be excused!
I get called for jury duty about every 2 years and I just tell then i’m an hourly contractor and my company does not compensate me for the time missed. I’ve gotten excused every time. If I was a salary worker i probably wouldnt mind the break.
