It’s so funny because Owala was being sold at Costco 5 years ago and people used to make fun of them. I’ve had the same one since 2021 and it’s so funny to see them “popular” now
Same here, I bought an owala as a cheaper alternative to a Stanley a few years back. I realized they were starting to get trendy when some younger coworkers started asking me about it
Same... the Stanley trend was funny because they were so impractical for most normal use. The Owala is actually well designed, but now it looks like I'm following a trend I couldn't care less about.
It's really ok, you can like a popular cultural thing for the same reasons that everyone else does. You don't need to loudly hold up your Owala and go "I LIKE THIS BUT NOT FOR THE SAME REASONS THAT MOST PEOPLE DO, I'M A SPECIAL BOY"
I agree about the Owala being well designed. My friend is the importer for Owala to my country so I got one cheap and it's truly the perfect drink bottle IMO.
I got one in 2022 a little before the craze started. It’s genuinely the best water bottle I’ve ever had. Keep everything cold all day, doesn’t spill out a giant opening when you try to sip it like a hydroflask, and the straw isn’t just hanging out loose like a Stanley where it will leak if it falls over. You can tip it back to gulp out of it or just sip from the straw. Has a built in hand to grab it by when the lid is closed. Perfectly designed and can’t think of a way it could be improved
Because Owala has a unique design and won several design awards for their straw / mouthpiece, unlike Stanley and the rest. Owala made a better water bottle.
It’s just nice to have the option I guess. Beyond that I think it’s easier to pull water through the Owala straw than it is with other straw water bottles. The way it’s built into the opening makes it feel more like drinking normally.
I have a Tal that is more like a Stanley but the straw holder clips shut. I can bring my own metal or glass straw and still get a fully leakproof container.
I like the idea of an Owala but am not a fan that there isn't a way to drink without putting plastic in my mouth, so Tal being leakproof but allowing me to avoid that ick has been great.

I'm currently on trend with owala but I have the same bottle I got in 2022 as a Christmas gift and last week finally caved and bought a second one because I was gifted the giant 32 oz one and it doesn't fit in my car holders and I got sick of throwing it on the floor and so I just finally snapped after years and decided it was totally acceptable to own two water bottles. Even owning two tho feels weird. Like I only need one and my old one still works. But now I have it in my cupboard for if I ever need it for hiking or something and want the larger size. Otherwise this new one will probably be my daily for the next decade.
I dropped my old owala off a cliff once and it only got scratched up so I don't expect it to break anytime soon and I love having a straw and a chug feature. I never got a Stanley and I'll likely never get whatever the next dumb water bottle trend is. Owalas are just great water bottles but idk why anyone needs dozens of them. It's insane to me.
I think they’re probably just resigned to the fact that fucking everything has microplastics in it now and don’t care enough to try to avoid a little extra from their water bottle
idk seems like an extremely easy change for them to make to avoid more microplastics, considering their family allegedly has several higher quality, non-plastic cups they don't use. they're just purposely being stubborn at this point lol.
There's car exhaust in the air in every city. I don't go and huf on an exhaust pipe straight. Especially when it's trivial to avoid it. But to each their own.
Let’s avoid plastic because of cancer concerns and replace them with metal cups that test positive for lead. I’m not sure if you know this or not but being human is a terminal condition.
Ngl if I was collecting something and my family member stole some of them and gave them away because they think my collections stupid, I probably wouldn’t talk to that person again for a while
I don’t remember the sub or the post itself, but recently I saw a picture posted and the background was a WALL of these, so many in the same color/style it looked like inventory, so people asked if they sell them…nope. “It’s my collection 🤗”

Idk, they’re building a collection. Some people collect Pokémon cards, or funko pops, or vinyls, or designer handbags. Even if it’s not something you would choose to collect, that doesn’t mean you have to shit on it. They probably have fun getting different colorways and designs and rare or limited release versions.
And you should not keep using that old plastic bottle. Chemicals from the plastic can leach into the water and you’re probably consuming microplastics every time you use it.
Same. Moving my girlfriend and her son and between them they have like 20+ water bottles and cups. I have 1 in use for coffee, that's it.
Refused to get rid of or pare down at all. They use them. I literally have never witnessed them rotate. In fact when I see a new one it's because they have bought a new one.
Tried to tell them you can buy magnetic wraps that change the looks cheaper and easier.
95% of them are sitting in a box still a year later after their move. Such a waste of money.
My wife is a teacher and shell get random ass water bottles/mugs/tumblers for teacher appreciation week. Every so often we hold a draft where we take turns picking mugs/bottles (depending on the cabinet) and then the leftovers go to goodwill.
People, DO NOT buy your teacher some mug/bottle/trinket unless you know (as in they said out loud "i really could use another mug") they want one, they have infinity. If you want to appreciate, money, flowers, carwashes, and good treats are the best bet.
If you happen to need a new water bottle I see nothing wrong with getting whatever's currently trendy, but yeah it's the folks who get multiples that confuse me.
There's an outdoor lifestyle influencer who I follow that posts a lot about getting away from plastic waste but then also posts about her large collection of Nalgenes and doesn't seem to see the irony in it
I don't know what influencer you're talking about so I might be way off base, but there's also a big difference between having a few reusable nalgene bottles and cycling through disposable bottles. One is much more wasteful than the other.
I don't know why, but I find this weirdly depressing.
1. Why would you care.
2. Dear crhist the cost and there being better things to spend your money on.
3. The herd mentality of being told to buy things on trend.
4. Having a cup the size of a car isn't very functional so I just don't get the appeal either haha.
My mom has a cabinet full of Stanleys and owalas and a Tupperware box of miscellaneous cup tops and it drives me nuts to look at. She uses none of them.
That's just so crazy to me. I bought a knockoff hydro flask (thermoflask just as good for half the price) at the beginning of the pandemic and 6 years later its still holding up strong. I've had to replace the lid twice now but that's it. This just seems so wasteful.
