Transportation Bike rack mishap.. learn how to use them first!
Ok so I've been here for about 1.5 years. I have started biking quite a bit more this last year. I haven't used the double decker bike racks until 2 days ago outside a cafe. I am always trying to fit in and try new things here.. so I couldn't find a normal ground rack to tie my bike to, but I did see some open slots on the upper level ones..
Well, I'm an idiot. I figured out the part about the rack sliding out. I did not figure out that apparently these racks tilt down so you can use them like a ramp and then are gas assisted to tilt back up? That makes TOTAL SENSE. Because let me tell you, apparently deadlifting a dutch stepthrough bike overhead onto one of them is very difficult and apparently hurts your neck and back. I'm in pain a few days later and am impressed with myself for finding yet another dumb way to get myself hurt.
So I'll try and ask questions, look things up, and if something doesn't feel right don't do it going forward. Welkom in Nederland jongen?

I’m mostly surprised that in 1.5 years you’ve never seen anyone else load a bike into the upper level parking!

I probably have, then didn't think much of it and forgot it. I was in a hurry to grab a brewski and also sorta flustered trying to not look like a newb who couldn't find a spot for their bike. :S

Been living her 24 years and still haven’t seen anybody use one. I stay away from them cause I don’t wanna make a fool of myself….

It’s pretty straightforward! Just give it a go when you’re not in a rush. Second time round it will be easier.

Yah i have seen 2 small fellas try the same thing with an fatbike, and when they finally got it up and un it tipped over because the tires are to fat to fit properly

Once I was trying to park in a bicycle park building, on the first floor. There was an automatic ramp and I put my bike on it, expecting it to go up. Nothing happened. The people behind me very helpful though, they just said "press the brake", and whoosh, up my bike went 😹 Felt like a miracle back then, now I'm wondering how I didn't figure out basic physics in the moment

I have seen lots of people use them but perhaps that is I live in Amsterdam and sometimes the bike parking a full.
