I have always been a one team guy in every sport. Knicks, Mets, Giants, and Rangers (Red Bulls if you want to include soccer). I hate the Yankees. I really don't think too much about the Nets and Islanders, and I secretly would love to see the Jets win one for their loyal fans. I never understood the logic of having a 2nd team to cheer for at some level. I can like one team to beat another, but not to follow them. I'm from NY and I cheer for NY teams....and that's it.
However, based on recent events, I feel badly for Clipper fans. The people who are really going to suffer for the malfeasance of management and ownership are the fans themselves.
Some of you may remember when they were the Buffalo Braves. I remember them in San Diego. They have never been to a Finals and been to a WCF 1x (in the bubble). Even though I waited 45 years for our Knicks to finally reach the mountain top...many of them dark years...there was also most of the 90's and the last few years where they gave us a ton of great memories.
My question: Is it cool to also cheer on a second team in another conference? By cheer on, I don't mean in the same stratosphere as I do the Knicks...but more than just favoring one team over another. When they play the Knicks, I'll want them to lose by 50.
Yes, I'm a grown man and can do what I want...but I'm curious to hear what my Knickerbocker brothers and sisters think.
