Enough is enough it's time we stop supporting Steve Whitmire

Upvotes

I will forever be grateful he kept Kermit alive after Jim's death.

But this has gone far enough. He was fired over a decade ago and he still can't let it go.

I don't care that he really liked that job it's been well over 10 years. I started jobs and left jobs in the time frame.

And now he is not only using but promoting AI art? You guys need to take off the frog tinted glasses and let him go.

Stop giving him attention

There’s being bitter about losing a job and there’s over a decades worth of poisoning the well.

And this new blog post he wrote a jab at the muppets winning 4 emmys that he is calling stolen

And you don't put a disclaimer saying "this isn't directly muppets related" without knowing you exactly implied it's the Muppets

Edit: wow the fact the some of you won't even budge from him using AI art is insane

Steve someone who calls himself an artist using AI Art is a slap in the face to everything he has ever done

I swear he could come out and say he killed a man and you guys would be like , that's okay he was Kermit

What are some of your favorite Muppet-related memories?

Hello! I saw this article on ToughPigs, so I was inspired to share my own favorite Muppet memories (buckle up, this may get a bit long). Feel free to do the same!

Story #1:

My ex boyfriend of 4 years broke up with me last September, and it really devastated me. The worst part is that this was the second time he broke my heart. I couldn’t sleep that night, I broke down multiple times and I had to wear a fake smile at work (I’m a teacher). The next night I was sitting at my mom’s place and scrolling through social media. Then I saw the announcement of the Muppet Show special, and for the first time since the heartbreak I was genuinely happy. The announcement gave me hope for the future and that I could feel happy again and heal. A few months later, I found my own place and decorated it with all the Muppet stuff I could get. This felt good because when I was with him I never felt like I could express my love for the Muppets or that he understood it whenever I told him about the movies or shows (he wasn’t willing to watch them with me even though I watched a lot of his favorite movies and shows with him). I also bought LED lights for my living room, popcorn and Muppet PJs to watch the special, and I had a blast watching it! I hadn’t felt that excited about something in a while! Also singing along to Manchild felt very cathartic to me.

Story #2:

When the Rock n Rollercoaster was announced to be getting the Muppets re theme, I was glad that the Muppets were still going to have a ride at Disney (R.I.P. MuppetVision I’m so sad I never got to experience you) and I was happy that the ride was going to focus on the Electric Mayhem since I’m a big fan of them. However, the only problem was that I had a fear of rollercoasters. Nevertheless, I wanted to make the trip to Disney. Not only did I do it because I wanted to face my fear, but also because I wanted to experience traveling on my own for the first time and I hadn’t been to Disney in 20 years. I waited for the school year to end and for July to come (I regret not going in June),booked everything, made the preparations and even rewatched Muppets Mayhem for the 100th time. Then, I went to Hollywood Studios and made the lighting lane line for the ride (big mistake for my first time looking back on it)…but was scared as soon as I saw the cars being launched so I got out through the chicken exit. But I didn’t want to give up on riding it, so after composing myself I made the regular line. I was still nervous, but seeing all the props and details on the ride made me feel better. Then, I got in the car, held on for dear life and closed my eyes. As the ride kept going, I started to feel my fear going away and I opened my eyes and started singing along to Rock Rock Til You Drop at the top of my lungs. When the ride was done, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I had faced one of the biggest fears I had ever since I was a child, and it was all thanks to the Muppets! I was so happy, and after exploring the park and going on more rides I went to ride the Rock n Rollercoaster again. The second ride was even better because I actually felt excited to get on and I also got Walking on Sunshine, which is the song I wanted to listen to the most. This was one of the best days of my life!

I have more great Muppet memories, but these two just really stand out to me. Again feel free to share your own too!

I have a few I'll share. First pic is the cups, Animal Gonzo and Dr. Teeth are the hardest to find. The Miss Piggy coin bank in the background isn't particularly rare but there IS a version that doesn't have the cleavage slit that is hard to find.

Second pic is a candle holder that I haven't seen many of.

Cast whereabouts from Sesame Street "Around the Corner" era (seasons 25-29; 1993-1998)

Upvotes

[also posted to "Muppet Central Forum" on another website, as well as r/sesamestreet -- I know this sub is more focused on the Henson/Disney Muppets but I like to cover my bases and I find that this is a little more of a "serious" adult fan group than the other sub].

Hi all. Was nostalgically looking at Sesame Street content over the past few days as I sometimes do. I got to thinking about the "Around the Corner" era from 1993-1998. Even though I didn't grow up with this era, I did have a few DVDs of productions from this time when I was a kid, and having been a semi-regular reader of (and occasional contributor) to Muppet Wiki for years, I have at least a passing recognition of pretty much every Sesame Street human cast member, because I tend to go down rabbit holes!

One actor from this period whose career trajectory fascinates me is Annette Calud, who played "Celina" for all 5 "Around the Corner" seasons. She was the only character from that era other than Ruth Buzzi's "Ruthie" to last all 5 years. While it doesn't measure up to some of the 25+-year-runs of veterans like Maria, Bob, Luis, Susan, Gordon, Gina etc., it's also not really a quick detour either. Buzzi was a national figure long before she was on Sesame and I don't want to make the post too long so I won't go into detail about her, but her career and life are well-documented.

However, I can find very little about Calud (and some other "ATC"-era actors after 1998. She has a Wikipedia page, so her basic bio is available, but her IMDb is totally devoid of all credits after the end of her association with Sesame Street. All other references I can find discuss her Broadway career in the early '90s pre-Sesame Street. I did find relatively recent references (within the last decade or so) to her being the aunt of Broadway actress Eva Noblezada, who is a successful leading lady in her own right these days. However, Noblezada's mentions of her aunt are mostly just name-drops and don't allude to what Calud might be doing professionally now.

I suppose it's possible she chose to retire and doesn't want to be found (and I'm not trying to contact her), but I find it hard to believe she has no credits after 1998. She was only in her mid-30s when she left Sesame. I did find one reference to her "possibly" being an eye doctor now, from a random person on the Internet who themselves wasn't even sure, but I can't verify.

Besides Ruthie and Celina, the other regular adult human characters from the ATC years were "Angela", played by Angel Jemmott, and "Jamal", played by Jou Jou Papailler. who both left after 1995 when Gina took over Angela's daycare center on the show. Jemmott seems to be in the same situation as Calud, as I can find nothing about her career or life whatsoever after 1995. Sesame appears to have been her last credit also. Papaillier is actually quite active these days and has something of a profile, appearing on children's TV nostalgia podcasts and happily discussing his time on Sesame while still occasionally working as an actor.

Does anyone here happen to have updates on the lives and/or careers of Calud and Jemmott? Just curious to see what they've been up to in the last three decades.

Shiver My Timers Muppet voices

Upvotes

I recently watched Muppet Treasure Island, and have been listening to Shiver My Timbers on loop. It's fascinating how, when not looking at the video, I can recognize some of the voices as well-known Muppets. I assume that at least to some extent it's because it's the same actors, but to what extent would they need to adjust their voice to match the well-known Muppet? Would it have been intentional?

Here's what I hear/recognize:

Gonzo and another: And they sail their ship 'cross the ocean blue, a blood-thirsty captain and a cutthroat crew.

[Feel like I should know this one ???]: It's as dark a tale as was ever told, of the lust for treasure and the love of gold

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew: And those buccaneers drown their sins in rum

Sam the Eagle?: Every man abord would have killed his mate, for a bag of guineas or a piece of eight

Pepe?: When the mainsail's set and the anchor's weighed, there's no turning back from any course that's laid
