Culture Munich this week (07 - 13 Sep): 7 picks, one for each day
Some of you might remember my intro post back in July about a Munich events newsletter I run.
Wanted to follow up properly this time, with the actual weekly format rather than just an introduction.
Quick note on where I'm coming from:
I'm NOT affiliated with any of these venues or organizers, DON'T take payment or sponsorship for what makes the list, and I'm NOT trying to push traffic anywhere.
I just spend a few hours each week going through what's on and picking seven things worth an evening.
Happy to keep doing this here weekly if people actually find it useful, and genuinely fine if not, just let me know.
- Mon 07-Sep: CARCASSE (dance) in Maxvorstadt
- Tue 08-Sep: Alexander Merk (magic show) in Glockenbach
- Wed 09-Sep: Leviticus, Fantasy Filmfest opener (cinema) in Altstadt
- Thu 10-Sep: Bavarian Line Dance in Isartor
- Fri 11-Sep: Jurassic World: The Experience (closing week) at Olympiapark
- Sat 12-Sep: Bundesbank Open Day in Maxvorstadt
- Sun 13-Sep: Open Monument Day in various locations
If you want more information on any of these (time, prices, booking info, event link), the full write-up is archived on Beehiiv - More information.

Visitor/Tourist Question Football Matches Near Munich
Hi all - I'm planning on visiting Munich in October / November and am interested in catching a football match while I'm there. I did want to see if I could watch an FC Bayern game, but the remaining tickets for the games at Allianz around that time would burn a massive hole in my budget.
Are there any large(r) teams that play near Munich (happy to do a day trip to watch a match) that might be a little more accessible financially? I'd be happy with most leagues! Thanks!

Visitor/Tourist Question Anniversary in Munich
Hello!
We will be visiting in early October for our 10th anniversary and looking for some ideas. How would you celebrate a milestone like this munich-style?
Things we like: beer, music, good food (not necessarily fancy, small/hidden places are more our style!), history, nature, art/local crafts, games/arcades, vintage markets.
Thanks in advance!

Visitor/Tourist Question luggage storage safe in germany ?
Quick question for anyone who uses left-luggage apps when traveling.
I’m looking at options around Munich Central Station like Bounce or BavarianLockers. The top-reviewed spot near Marsstraße (3 min from Central Station) seems super convenient, but I’ve never left my main bag with a 3rd party before.
Usually I keep my laptop on me 24/7, but carrying it around all day is going to be a pain. Are these shop-based storage spots actually safe for tech ?
Thanks!

Food and Restaurants Ordering food
Hallihallo,
so ordering food got really hard for me because I don't want to support the business model of the big food delivery companies. Please don't make this a discussion thread, I'm not trying to convince anybody to do the same.
I'm just trying to find restaurants that have their own delivery system. Do you know any that do?
Thank you!

Visitor/Tourist Question Places in Munich to check out for Pokémon 30th anni?
I’ll be in Munich on September 16th when the new Pokémon set drops.
Are there any stores/shops in or around Munich that will sell boxes that day already?
Looking for something normal where I don’t have to camp all night or people are willing to lose a leg for some cardboard 😅 (No idea how crazy these drops are in Germany…)

Discussion Munich saga - first time with a stroller
Today I wanted to give my wife a few hours of “me time”, so I took our little baby to the city centre by public transport.
I had never tried taking the S-Bahn with a stroller before, so I thought: why not? Finding a free parking spot would probably be a nightmare anyway.
Our S-Bahn stopped at Giesing, and they announced that it wouldn’t go any further towards the city. Okay, it happens basically every week, so I wasn’t even surprised. After waiting about 10 minutes for the elevator, we finally managed to squeeze in and continued our journey by U-Bahn.
We spent a good hour in the city centre, but then we had to get to Hackerbrücke. From where we were, taking the tram seemed like the easiest option.
The display said the tram was coming in 4 minutes. The app said it was already 4 minutes late, but definitely on its way.
We waited for easily 15 minutes. By then, at least 40 other people were waiting for the same tram, so when it finally arrived, we all had to squeeze into this already quite small tram — with a stroller, of course.
We eventually made it to our destination, barely breathing after the ride on the completely packed tram.
30 minutes later, it was time to head home. Taking the S-Bahn seemed like the obvious choice, especially since the app said the problem at Giesing had been fixed.
We reached Hackerbrücke station, only to find out that the elevator wasn’t working.
Great. So how exactly am I supposed to get down to the platforms with a stroller?
I decided to take the tram back a few stops and try another station. So we got on yet another super-packed tram, this time to Karlsplatz.
And guess what?
The elevator to the S-Bahn level wasn’t working there either.
At that point, I was completely done.
I promised myself: never again am I taking public transport into the city with a stroller. No chance.
I am always quite impressed how good the transportation system is built and always impressed how unreliable this is in Munich. It is actually ridiculous, you can’t really plan your life if you want to use or if you have no other choice but to use the public transportation. I feel very sorry for disabled people and for those who are exposed to this everyday 😕

Visitor/Tourist Question Förster/Wald Trachten
Hi All,
I work in forestry and am interested in buying proper traditional trachten for Oktoberfest.
Can anyone confirm what people in Germany/Bayern/Austria would wear if they work in forestry or are from forested areas please? I’d like to purchase the right colours and materials 😊
Thanks!

Help McFit gym Munich Laim near S4 / Laim – any recommendations?
Hey everyone, I’m looking for a gym in the area, preferably close to the S4 (or Hirschgarten S-Bahn station). Has anyone trained at the McFit München-Laim (Landsberger Str. 163)?
How is it after the renovation? Crowdedness, cleanliness, equipment? I’m also open to alternatives in the same area (Fit Star / all inclusive, Prime Time, etc.) as long as they’re reasonably close to the S4.
Any personal experiences or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Visitor/Tourist Question Dumme Frage (transport from Prien to Bernau am Chiemsee)
Please don't laugh or be mean, I know this is stupid.
My friends & I planned to attend the guided birdwatching at Turm Irschener Winkel in Bernau am Chiemsee tomrrow (Sunday 6th Sept) at 9:00 morgen. We are staying near the Bahnhof in Prien am Chiemsee tonight.
We called to book a taxi for the morning but were told they have no availability. (I called 5 different taxi numbers)
One of us has limited mobility, so walking nearly 2 km from the Bernau Bahnhof is not an option.
It looks like Uber & Freenow are also not available.
Is there any way for us to get to Turm Irschener Winkel by 9:00 morgen on Sunday? We can do maybe 10 minutes of walking but probably not more than that.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
(I know this is not a big emergency or anything, but would love to find a solution if possible)

Original Photography Sharing surfer photos
Just visiting town and I took some (what I think to be) cool pictures of one of the surfers today at Eisbachwelle. If anyone knows this guy, I’d be happy to share the originals with him. But just didn’t want to post his face for the world. Thanks for having me Munich, it’s been amazing!
