Short-term rental for relocating from London area to Edinburgh

Hi everyone!

We are a family of four living near London at the moment. We own (well, we took out a mortgage 5 years ago) a new-built flat that we are planning to sell, then we plan to move to Edinburgh. We will have some savings that we want to use to buy a house there later, but first, we want to rent for about 6 months. How does one find an affordable temporary home for a family that is in a somewhat decent area, with schools around; all that is somewhat affordable? How did others who relocated with kids solve this problem? I checked airbnb prices but it is not affordable even for a month (£4-6000 per month). If we straight go for a proper rental, it takes time to go through, we will have to live somewhere while the paperworks will finish. Any ideas?

My family just moved from overseas to Edinburgh and we found a great rental at the Dockside built-to-rent in Leith. We're really happy with the catchment school and the transportation options here. The building's absolutely gorgeous and the management team were easy to work with when getting the lease squared away. It didn't take long at all to get the lease finalized - maybe 2 weeks? Scotland's 28 day lease termination policy means you can stay for 6 months and peace out pretty easily.

We came up to Edinburgh about a couple of months before moving to do viewings. Booked a few days in a hotel, went to all the viewings we could and secured a place then made all the moving arrangements.
