Looking for advice on pistols
I currently own a Beretta M9 made last year and a 1991 West German Sig P226. The Sig has probably had maybe 3 total magazines through it in its life and sat in a safe the rest of the time. I am the 2nd owner and I bought it in 1996, so i know everything is original on it. The first owner was a friend of mine.
I'm wondering though if it would make sense to sell it and pick up one of the more modern striker fired pistols. I'm interested in a Canik or a CZ.
Since I would have the Beretta M9 to fill the full sized pistol void, I'd still have that comfort for a home gun, along with my rifles. I used the M9 in the army and am familiar with it and like it. I haven't really used the Sig. It's just been a safe queen.
What do you guys think? Hang onto it because of historical value? Or try something new?

I don’t understand selling guns, I only understand buying guns.

It's a financial thing. I can't afford to buy a new one without selling an old one.

If you really can’t envision you’ll ever have a use for it, and would rather have something different, then I would sell it. The problem is, unless you have someone lined up to buy it, you’re not going to get very much. Most mass produced 9mm pistols I’ve seen, aside from some of the 2011s, have a terrible resale value. I wanted to sell a spare P10C a couple years ago and it was basically worth $150. I’ll pass it to one of my kids someday for that. You’ll get more for your 226, but you’ll probably still have to pony up some extra cash even for a Canik.

Good point. I didn't really look into how much a used 226 is going for.

A West German made in factory mint shape like you claim, especially if you have the box and papers could definitely be worth a decent chunk if you're willing to sell it private party and wait for someone willing to pay for it. Also if it's a two tone or stainless it's worth a fair bit more.
That said, those West German pistols are awesome, and they certainly won't make more.I'd say you should keep letting it sit in the safe and save up enough for a used p10, they're pretty cheap and damn fine pistols.

Totally subjective and up to you. If it doesn't have sentimental value and you find it redundant, go ahead and trade it for something else you'll find more useful. Just think about it first and make sure you aren't gonna miss it too much. I'm sure a lot of people here (myself included) have sold or traded things and regretted it later, and found it hard to replace those things down the line.

I've always been a fan of Sigs. That being said I understand have to sell one to buy one. Selling to a private party is your best bet to get the most value from it. If you live in a bigger urban area you'll have better luck that way.

I live close to Grand Rapids. Most of the sales I see are happening on the east side of the state. I'm still trying to decide on selling it or not. I kind of want something I would actually use and not something that's going to sit in a safe. I'm still conflicted to be honest

Hold on to it and buy a more affordable gun like a Stoeger. Between PSA’s “sales” and rebates, you can pick one up for less than $200. It’s a win-win.
