My dad passed away in 2018. I just realized he's still on Google Street View from 2014.

My dad passed away in 2018. I was randomly looking at his old apartment on Google Maps and decided to check the older Street View images.

I went back to 2014 and suddenly realized... that's my dad standing outside.

I'm originally from Canada, but I've been living in Thailand since 2012, so we hadn't had many chances to see each other for a long time. To make it even more bittersweet, we were actually in the middle of a disagreement when he passed away.

So there's something really weird, but also comforting, about finding this. It's just a completely ordinary moment — him standing outside his apartment, going about his day — but Google happened to drive by at exactly that moment in 2014.

Years later, I can basically go back to that exact place and moment and see my dad alive again.

I don't know, I just thought it was pretty crazy and wanted to share.

That’s pretty interesting. I once found a Google image of a few work friends crossing a street, but I’ve never seen a relative…

u/shocky2021 14h ago

NGL I'm a bit in shock. I wasn't expecting that. I was just scrolling through to see how the building itself changed over time and then I seen that... I wasn't ready :'(

u/Past-Television7973 14h ago

Shocking and special and bittersweet I imagine. I’m sorry for the loss of your Dad. He looks quite young.

u/shocky2021 13h ago

Thank you.

He was 63. He died in August of 2018. Had a normal day went to Tim Horton to buy some coffee came back home and felt unwell.. started to sweat and all.

He's actually the youngest of my family on both sides that we lost. His mother died at 69.

It's a bit of both tbh. But if I'm being honest, It's actually a happier feeling.

u/Past-Television7973 9h ago

I’m glad it’s more happy than otherwise. My daughter lost her dad two years ago at 62. It was very difficult because of the lack of warning.

u/BugEyedBigSky 6h ago

I’m so sorry very for your loss. I unexpectedly lost my dad in August of 2022; he was also in his 60’s. This would have taken me out. Sending you hugs <3

I discovered my (deceased) best friend's photo the same way (was missing him, went to look at a map of his house, flipped back once and it was a photo of him gardening in the yard. It was shocking but now it's like a little time machine where I can go back to that moment in time.

u/shocky2021 13h ago

Wow, that's incredibly similar to what happened to me. I think “a little time machine” is honestly the perfect way to describe it.

The initial shock of unexpectedly seeing them there is so strange, but then there's something incredibly comforting about being able to go back to this completely ordinary moment in their life. Your friend was just gardening, my dad was just standing outside his apartment... neither of them had any idea that moment would mean so much to someone years later.

I also have emails from him that I never even opened. I still have access to my old hotmail mailbox. I'm not ready yet.

I'm really sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing this with me. ❤️

u/lllwvb 13h ago

Hey wasn't sure if this is the right time to say this but be sure to login from time to time to these email accounts, some might get deleted if inactive for too long. All the best!

u/bunzburnerrr 12h ago

My dad recently passed away unexpectedly and I found a shop on Etsy. If you have something with his handwriting (a card, etc.) they transpose it onto an object. I had a Christmas card that was signed "Love, Dad" and now I have his handwriting glazed on a little ring dish next to my sink. He's always with me :) Grief doesn't shrink with time; we learn to live with it and make room for it. Hugs to you.

u/Walls 12h ago

Would you be able to send me the name of that company?

u/bunzburnerrr 10h ago

OrangeFlower9 shop...you can see some photo reviews of the trinket/ring dishes. Just be careful if cleaning (mine gets splashed when I cook). I don't submerge, just wipe with a damp cloth to keep the text and top coat safe. I really love mine.

If you have the opportunity. Look at the street view with a VR headset. Very somber experience in cases like this.

u/SoPasGuy 13h ago

You should save the image. The next time Google photomaps that location, the photo with your friend will disappear and a new one will replace it.

u/Conscious_Friend7602 12h ago

You can go back in time to see old street view images (click on "See more dates" next to the date in the upper right corner of Google Maps), but yes, still a good idea to save the image anyway.

u/bigblueboyqt 10h ago

TIL. Thanks

u/Bitmush- 5h ago

EXACTLY the same thing happened to me :)
It wasn't google street view, it was the Bing Streetside (now defunct).
First view I could see him in the distance, apparently walking back from the store with a bag.
As the camera car passes, you can see him quizzically turn his head at it (face blurred!).
That was the last photo of him anyone ever saw. He was going home.

See you again, mate. x

u/True-Astronaut5200 12h ago

That really is a touching reminder of how fleeting life can be. It's wild to think we've got those snapshots forever, even if they stir up some unexpected feelings.

u/EarlyXplorerStuds209 14h ago

Its oke bud. 🫂
At least this helps you a bit. Its a nice lil thing to cherish.

u/JulieMeryl09 13h ago

💔💞

u/Neusatz 12h ago

Exact same thing happened to me. I still sometimes go to my street on google when I miss him and want to see him again.

u/Lazy-Pop-8944 11h ago

Perdi meu pai tem meses ... Realmente é muito dolorido

u/evilbulb 7h ago

I think this is great. I would love to find an Easter egg like this with a loved one. It may hit hard, and I am very sorry for your loss, but what a wonderful surprise! I wish you all the best.

u/sherlip 7h ago

I found the same thing with my grandma. She died in 2021, but she's still on StreetView from 2013.

u/bunny_face 6h ago

Having lost my dad when he was 53, this made me tear up. I can’t imagine how that must have felt.

u/misch1evous 12h ago

I think even seeing coworkers is rare tbh

u/drock13yyc 5h ago

If I look up my grandparents house. I can see my grandpa cutting some wood in the carport and he’s staring at the Google car. It’s from when they first started doing street view and it’s in rural middle of no where which is interesting. It’s pretty cool to see.

u/OldSea3040 14h ago

That’s cool. His legend continues on

u/shocky2021 14h ago

Thank you sir/mam!

u/Sad_Marketing_Girl 14h ago

Same with my dad and my village. It’s not been updated since 2009. I can see my dad at the pub with my dog, my mum coming out the pub, and me and my friend down at the bottom of the village, walking to the pub. Time capsule to a much happier life.

u/SARB033 13h ago

If it did ever get updated, there's usually a button to see past street views to find it again.

u/Manwar7 11h ago

As long as your neighbors don’t request their house blurred, which usually makes you stuck with only one image because Google is too lazy to blur past and future ones. I can only see images of my childhood home from 2018 because my old psychopath conspiracy nutjob neighbor had his house blurred

u/Calbone607 6h ago

Shit I spend so much time on street view and never figured out that’s why some areas do not have the flashback

u/IHateTheLetterF 12h ago

Does the village have other buildings than the pub, or are you all just drunks lol

u/Sad_Marketing_Girl 12h ago

Kinda? It is literally a dead end village with a pub and a church. My dad is in the beer garden, my mums getting some drinks, me and my friend were 11 and were craving a J2O.

u/DhruvDP3 14h ago

Me and my friends also had a photo earlier on the street maps. But then they redid it and now its not there. Have to change the year manually and see us 😃

u/shocky2021 14h ago

You mean you had a photo of yourself on Google? that's crazy lol. Don't do nothing illegal! haha.

u/DhruvDP3 14h ago

Nah we were just standing there !!

u/Working_Painting_496 13h ago

There’s the option now to look at previously captured street views on there!

u/EnzoFrancescoli 8h ago edited 8h ago

Yes it is very cool, unfortunately (or not depending on your view on privacy!) some houses can apply to be blurred though, so you may still be scrubbed. Happened to me and a very loved person.

Edit: I tell a lie, I was looking in the wrong spot, it was Sep not Oct 2014. Still there. Weirdly feels so comforting, like a little moment of time that we will always be happily preserved in.

u/M-baku 14h ago

This is beautiful.

u/shocky2021 14h ago

Beautiful and sad at the same time. It got to me I'm not gonna lie. Thank you for the kind comment.

u/brownishgirl 14h ago

My first cat passed in 2018, and I too have her on street view of your house sitting on our porch in 2016 while I garden in the front yard.

What a beautiful, sad and unexpected treasure. Sorry for your loss.

u/shocky2021 13h ago

Animals are just as important.

We had to put down our GSD in 2019 and the pain was really bad.

We all love our animals.

u/M-baku 13h ago

I hear you. Your comment reminded me of a quote: 'You live only as long as the last person who remembers you.' So take heart — your father's memory will now live on a little longer, in mine too

u/shocky2021 13h ago

Thank you. That really means a lot to me.

I'm 38 now, I have my own company back home in Montreal, I'm a digital marketer, an entrepreneur, and I have a partner I love more than anything. So I definitely have a lot to be grateful for.

I'm just not where I want to be yet.

The good thing is, I know where I want to go now. I know what kind of man I want to become, and I know I still have some work to do on myself to get there.

His legacy is literally tattooed on me. I was his only son, so carrying a part of him with me means a lot.

I really appreciate your words. ❤️

u/M-baku 10h ago

You’re welcome and thank you for sharing this with us. This touched me personally — more than I can easily put into words — and I really wish you knew just how much your story resonated with me also having lost a father at a young age. Grateful.

u/Prudent-Slip6940 14h ago

Omg
My heart goes out to you. Lost my dad to Covid, one of those stories where he was alone in the ICU.

RIP

u/shocky2021 14h ago

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry for your loss too.

I guess we both have someone looking down on us now. :)

I feel your pain -- stay strong.

u/BenchNumerous6744 14h ago

Try and get that printed 😀

u/shocky2021 14h ago

He's already tattooed on me. But you're right I might need to get it printed somewhere in case it get deleted lol.

u/BenchNumerous6744 14h ago

You can even ask someone to edit it and clean it up. There’s a few subreddits that offer that for a small $ tip

u/LaurenMille 9h ago

It will eventually get deleted when they make a new pass through the area, definitely get it backed up.

u/Dazzling-Western2768 13h ago

Take a picture or screenshot of this. The next time you view it, he will be removed from the pic.

u/skiing123 12h ago

OP! This

u/shocky2021 12h ago

I already have hundreds of them on different clouds.

No way I'm taking chances! Thanks X

u/HeraldOfChonkdraste 14h ago edited 14h ago

I also found my dad on Street View dated a few years before he passed. It was like seeing a ghost.

Edit: I said you should take a screenshot, which is obviously what this post is. In my defense, haven’t had my usual coffee today.

u/Francesami 12h ago

I found my mother pulling weeds in the front yard on street view. I took a screenshot and saved it in case it was replaced someday.

u/rizzleronthe_roof 11h ago

Screen cap that before they change it. Trust me.

u/shocky2021 11h ago

It looks like my hometown... Is it from St-Jean southshore of Montreal?

u/shocky2021 14h ago

Longueuil right in front of Pierre-Boucher hospital.

Thank you sir!

u/shocky2021 14h ago

My father was terrified of needles. He died at 63, and for probably 12–15 years he avoided getting his annual checkups because of that fear.

The crazy part is that my grandfather on my mom's side had basically the same heart issue, but he actually went to get checked and they caught it in time and saved him. My father never did.

Knowing that the whole thing was potentially preventable is probably what hurt me the most, tbh.

u/lolplzkillme 14h ago

No joke juste à voir la photo j’étais sûre que c’était St-Jean… y’a à peu près 50 immeubles qui ressemblent direct à ça dans la ville !!!

u/BennyBreast 12h ago

My mom was a crossing guard. Shortly after she suffered a debilitating stroke, I found an old image of her on her corner from maybe 2011. Strangely comforting.

u/darkdetective 12h ago

I can see my gran who died a couple years ago outside her local church which is nice. I used to be able to see my cat in the window, but sadly they moved it some years after.

u/EuphoricPersona 10h ago

My grandmother died years ago on the first day of the summer holidays when I was still a young boy, shortly after my birthday. I remember that morning when my parents came to tell me very clearly. It was lovely that day. Simply perfect weather for the end of June. All in all, the weather that summer was probably lovely, but I don’t remember that now, because I didn’t get to enjoy it much. During the summer, my grandad fell ill, and then he passed away in the autumn too. Nevertheless, I can revisit that day again and again, be wherever I want, set off on any adventure as far from home as I like, and be that little boy once more. You see, on that very day, a survey vehicle was driving round our area and took photographs of the whole neighbourhood, all my favourite places, and it froze that moment in time. It drove down our street early in the morning, so the house is pictured before I’d even got up that morning. Personally, I see that day as the day my childhood ended. Over the next few years, several very sad things happened, and overall, life simply wasn’t as carefree and lovely as it had been; my visits to my grandmother’s (which I consider the happiest moments of my entire childhood) came to an end. But the little me is still living it out there somewhere on Street View. For him, childhood hasn’t ended, and he can carry on playing carefree wherever he pleases.

u/OtherwiseMove646 14h ago

😭😭😭

u/SpencerVerde 14h ago

What a wonderful surprise…I love that! (Although, I imagine it was a mix of happy and heavy feelings, like grief always is.)

About six months after my father passed away, we were going through his stuff and I found a small gift he had purchased for me. I assume he bought to give to me at Christmas, stuffed in his closet, and then forgot all about it. I still carry it with me 20+ years later. 💕

u/shocky2021 13h ago

Wow! That's amazing. Do you think he actually meant to give it to you for christmas and forgotten?

May your father rest in peace. One thing I can promise you is their spirit never really go away. I had a life-threatening motorcycle accident in 2016 and was in ICU for weeks and even though I have no proof or nothing, I can tell my father spirit was around.

u/SpencerVerde 13h ago

Thanks! IIRC, the receipt‘s date was late October (well past my birthday), so assume he must have put it away and then forgot. (It had gotten pushed to the back of the closet, which didn’t help.)

RIP to your Dad as well. It sucks to join this club, but I completely agree about their spirit always being around. How amazing to have felt that during your own health emergency!

u/Grey_0ne 11h ago

It's pretty weird... My brother and grandfather are both dead and both (separately in location and time) on street view.

u/jamcub 10h ago

I tried doing this to the place I live and they removed all but the most recent ones. OP, take a screenshot.

u/Awkward_Bit_8944 10h ago

I LOVE Google earth for that reason. My child hood home burned down and the first Google street view they had was the year before the house fire.

u/Granny_knows_best 14h ago

My MIL is on Google Street View but her grandson had Google fuzz out the view because he is paranoid and didn't want people staking him out. She is gone now and I tried to reverse the fuzz but Google doesn't allow it.

u/ogbuji 13h ago

I've found two of my favorite people in Google maps. One is my dad mowing lawn on a riding mower out in the middle of rural Wisconsin. And my auntie walking down her street in a city just north of London. My dad's was taken somewhere around 2016, and my auntie was just within the last year.

u/shocky2021 13h ago

That's amazing. Your dad mowing the lawn on a riding mower is exactly the kind of thing I love about this. It's not some special occasion or a photo they posed for — it's just them doing completely normal everyday stuff.

I think that's what makes these Street View finds so special. It's like accidentally finding a tiny piece of their everyday life frozen in time.

And your auntie's one being from just last year is awesome. Definitely screenshot both of them while they're still there! ❤️

Btw, as a Canadian, Wisconsin is one of them places in the US that I really want to go see before I leave. I've heard nothing but good things from there.

Ironically, I have a digital marketing agency back home in Montreal. This is pretty much what I do everyday (social media, etc...).

I was just browsing on my free time lol. But you're right -- it's wild. Because I really do get to see the ugliness of social media on a daily basis. But I don't believe social media reflect us as a society, people, world, etc..

Social media is a whole different world that's for sure.

u/Dependent-Green-7900 12h ago

I had a cat that passed long before I found the picture. Our beautiful Ellie was staring down the car from the side of the house

u/Formal_Substance_687 12h ago

This would make me burst into tears ngl

u/shocky2021 12h ago

Oh, it did. I'm a bit messed up now tbh. Messed up might not be the correct word but I'm definitely emotional right now lol.

u/themusicinmyhead 11h ago

My mom passed last year and we saw that Google Maps captured her taking the trash out in front of her house. Of course I saved a screenshot. 💖

u/growan93 11h ago

Thank you for sharing this beautiful find, I know it must be quite sad at the same time to see him again. I just want to thank you for sharing, it gave me an idea tonight to have a look at the area my brother lived before he passed in 2018. I found him on streetview leaving his workplace, It was pretty surreal almost seeing a 'new' photo of him from when he was still around. Even if the face is blurred.

u/dirtyyogi01 9h ago

glad you got to see him on the photos - when serendipity happens, I attribute it to the spirit that passed just saying a hello/I forgive you, back to me.

u/howdydaisy 8h ago

I found my great grandma on street view, out tending to her yard. Was a pretty similar situation where I was just trying to look at the house. I feel weirdly lucky to have this moment of her saved that feels like such insight and a reminder of who she was before illness and difficult end.

u/Lendosan 14h ago

Same with my Dad.

u/Not-Special-1326 14h ago

Awwe. Right in the flow of activity. May he rest well. I hope it's good feelings and memories you had overall when you saw it, even if mixed with the sadness.

u/Marzook666 13h ago

Is he wearing sandals? He looks like a cool dude taking care of business..

u/shocky2021 13h ago

Yeah haha. We used to watch wrestling together all the time in the 90s. If you look at the second photo, the building on the right is where we lived — third floor, apartment on the right.

My dad literally had beach chairs inside the apartment lmao, and we'd sit there and watch wrestling together all the time.

He even took me to Survivor Series in 1997 when Bret got screwed 😂 We actually met Owen Hart in the bathroom of the restaurant inside the building that night. True story haha.

So yeah, sandals definitely fit the character 😂 He was a cool dude. Introverted, serious at time but super open-minded.

u/howtonotsobasic 13h ago

my grandpa passed away in 2022 and he's also immortalized in a google street view pic in front of our house from 2014. i like looking at it sometimes to see him going about his day in the yard ☺️

u/shocky2021 13h ago

I'm sorry for your loss!

Feel free to share the link here. I would love to see him. <3

u/sideshowbvo 13h ago

My mom passed away in 2014, I just found her on street view at her old house from 2013

u/ware_it_is 13h ago

i have screenshots of my granddaddy at their former home. i bawled when i first saw him on Google Maps.

u/turkoid 12h ago

I feel ya. My dad also passed away in 2018. After being his only family near him in Minneapolis, I took a job in San Diego. One month later he passed away. It didn't really hit me until a few months later, but since then the most random things remind me of him, but also the most obvious things. Rewatched Field of Dreams after like 15 years, and fuck, that shit hit me like a sack of bricks.

As you experienced with this find, ordinary, or candid pics of my dad are the ones I cherish the most.

u/Extension-Ad-4443 12h ago

Oh this was a bad time to be listening to sad music, now I'm crying haha. Really sorry for your loss but it's sweet that he's immortalized almost, a snap in time.

u/makroker 12h ago

Please save it. Make a screenshot, print and frame it. It is a cool memory!

u/RandomRobot 12h ago

This totally looks like Montreal South Shore.

Also, for the record, the place isn't dangerous enough that you need to blur your wheel caps

u/shocky2021 12h ago

That was AI haha. Considering I've already said where this is, I didn't need AI anyway. But yeah, that's Longueuil, right across from Pierre-Boucher Hospital. Matter of fact, if you look at it from the hospital's perspective on Google Maps, you can probably see the street and maybe even the building from there.

u/RandomRobot 4h ago

J'ai habite dans la collectivite nouvelle pendant 3 ans =)

Cheers man, a toi pis ton pere...

u/JonPQ 12h ago

I found my late cat just chilling outside my parents'. It still hurts. Like OP said, it's bittersweet.

u/fuuncs 12h ago

That’s awesome. Hold on to it. My wife and I found her grandpa that had also passed away hanging out on his driveway and it was really special.

u/Confused_HelpDesk 12h ago

Awe Google images has a picture of my grandma walking down her driveway to check the mail. She passed away last year and it's been nice to see that from time to time

u/Jerevedecampagne 11h ago

This must be Montreal's South Shore. If it isn't, there's a Montreal's South Shore doppelganger somewhere.

u/Magnahelix 11h ago

My dad passed in 2012. I'd log into Google maps and check his house just to see his truck in the driveway. The street view updated a few years ago. Made me sad.

u/bwilliamp 11h ago edited 11h ago

Fellow Canadian here. And fellow "Found my parent on Google Maps" also.

My mother has been gone now for about a decade. Found her a few years ago on maps and I strangely go back and check on her once in a while. It's a strange feeling, but also slightly comforting.

All the best to you.

u/SmartaHari 11h ago

This is so precious.

u/NovaRunner 10h ago

My dad died in 2012. A year or two later I was going through Google Maps of his town and realized it was possible to actually walk through his business...and there he was, behind the counter in his usual chair. It was an emotional surprise, indeed.

u/GinoTremblay 10h ago

For a second i thought it was in Laval. We got the same ugly parking and old apartment. You said Canada and I knew the picture was taking in Quebec.

u/Fomentatore 9h ago

I recently discovered mine had left reviews for all his favorite places. I looked up a bakery we used to visit to see if it was open, and I saw his review. It was a gut punch, but I found some gold.

For one beach, he wrote about how beautiful it was and then absolutely blasted the town council because they hadn't done any maintenance on the dirt road, and after it rained while they were there, he and my mom nearly got stuck in the mud.

u/username-is-missing 9h ago

I go back and look at my Mom's house. She is not in the pictures but her car is there so I know she is inside.

u/monochrxm3 8h ago

my youngest uncle died 3 years ago and i found him on street view from 2020 too 🥹

u/thebudgie 8h ago

You're lucky that particular slice of your dad's life in that moment is pretty wholesome.

When they drove the street view car past my parents' house, Dad was out washing the car. He was crouching, and has full ass crack on show.

He didn't even know the street view car had gone by till I showed him.

u/Clym44 8h ago

Dad probably thought that was awesome

u/juliettelovesdante 14h ago

Aw, that's awesome. Yay!

So happy you have this piece of serendipity.

u/Ok-List2176 13h ago

It’s strange to think how many people might have passed, but are still alive on a street view map

u/Helemaalklaarmee 13h ago

What kind of rims were on that car and why did google feel the need to blur them?

u/shocky2021 13h ago

I used AI to blurr the actual adress. Nothing special trust me LOL.

u/VF_19_Advance 13h ago

same mine died in 2020 and he still on street view from 2012 same thing trunk open back turned oblivious to the car taking pictures

That's so awesome! Streetview is amazing in what it catches sometimes. We had a garage in our old house but had both cars on the street exactly once while cleaning the garage out. Both cars were totaled in not at fault accidents* within a year of each other, but they're in street view around that time!

*first was totaled when there was rush hour traffic and the car behind my husband didn't stop on a large 6 lane bridge in Pittsburgh. This was before we had cell phones to the man called me and said, 'Accident on Veteran's Bridge, car is totaled, I'm fine, I gotta give this guy back his phone, I'll be home late' AND HUNG UP

*second was someone fell asleep driving one of those front-mounted plows on an enormous pickup. Knocked our parked car across the street and into 2 other cars, at 5 AM

u/Viscount_Barse 13h ago

Just an FYI to people.

You can go back through older street view images so if anyone here has had someone "updated" out you can still find them.

u/UndeadCaesar 12h ago

That's awesome you found it, maybe save this screenshot offline as you never know when something will be taken down due to a privacy request. Image hosters go under etc.

I am very close with my parents and genuinely am worried that I will become homeless due to having a complete mental breakdown and being unable to work if I were to lose them. Its actually something I discuss with my therapist regularly so I am always curious how other people deal with the loss of someone they are incredibly close with.

u/Str82daDOME25 12h ago

Awesome that they blurred that tire 😂 but do keep this ss incase they update it

u/shocky2021 12h ago

It absolutely make no sense frfr LOL. Maybe my dad was trafficking something up in those tires.

u/Equivalent-Youth494 12h ago

Google maps trae recuerdos 🥲 también Habia visto a mi perrito que ya falleció, sentí nostalgia

u/Important_Ad_6676 11h ago

My dad passed away in january, but he is still on street view from a few years ago in his usual work clothes he always was wearing.

u/Anti-whatever-u-r 11h ago

Can you look at houses for a certain year?

u/Parallax55 11h ago

Happened to me as well. Just a reminder that when, as it will, the Pic gets updated, Street View will let you go back to old pics of the same spot.

Old house's pic got updated a few years back and I thought I lost the view of Dad working out front forever. Turns out, I can check on him whenever I want by checking the image history.

u/OliverKitsch 11h ago

Chairs, bud.

u/h0peless-0ptimistic 11h ago

Google did right.

u/Teapila 11h ago

It is pretty crazy! Thank you for sharing

u/JGStonedRaider 11h ago

For years I used to be able to see my trekking both to and from the industrial estate burger van. Those street views are lost to time...

Not quite as deep admittedly.

u/Nikita-is-back 11h ago

Émouvant… et triste à la fois. Ça doit faire bizarre 🫤🫤❤️

u/Ordinary-Ability-482 11h ago

May his soul be resting in eternal peace!🙏🏻✝️🕊️

u/gowahoo 11h ago

I'm so sorry for your loss.

u/Gramkos 11h ago

don’t worry about street view coming later and updating it, you can always go back to past views. he will be there forever!

u/SpinitPositive 11h ago

That is an Ontario coded place. Great to have those memories with you, that is really special.

u/deadcatdidntbounce 10h ago

Now that's a heartwarming story. With the stuff that's counted in the media, I need that, thank you.

u/BummedCPA 10h ago

I also lost my dad in 2018, I don't think a day goes by that I don't think about him. He taught me carpentry and I was finishing my deck today so that's probably why .

u/RKB10101 9h ago

❤️💔

u/augus7 9h ago

Omg I was doing the exact same thing last night. Pulled up my childhood home on google street view to show my partner where I grew up. It's also from 2014 and there's my mom and dad lounging in our terrace as always.

They passed away in 2021 and 2022... still debating with my self whether to share the info with my siblings. Their deaths have been traumatic for them. Just took a screenshot just in case

u/nmeeks50 9h ago

I understand! 🥰

u/Valuable_Material_26 9h ago

Make sure to take a screenshot pc or smartphone, to keep image incase the building or location is ever updated.

u/Medium-Enthusiasm690 9h ago

that`s too sad

u/Funny-Engineering-72 9h ago

Same here. I have a Google image of their house, but I can't upload images here. , stepdad passed in May 2024

u/Roverjosh 9h ago

Send Google a note… maybe they’ll give you a copy of that photo? I doubt it but it can’t hurt to try…

u/SevenOfSeveral 8h ago

My dad decided to water his lawn in his boxers when a google car drove by and captured the photo. Still wish I saved it before it disappeared lol

u/matapuwili 8h ago

How does one view old Google Street Views?

I found my grandma on street view on her porch with her dog, after she passed away. I still have the screen shots. I miss her a lot.

u/Apical-Meristem 7h ago

Google Street View caught my dad taking the trash out. It was up several years after he passed away. He never did anything laconically, he was taking the trash out with vigor.

u/oh-iam-here 6h ago

Google please don't delete this.

u/hodgepodgelodger 6h ago

I found my grandparents on Google Maps. And I still go visit them every so often. This is a beautifully written piece/reflection on the experience:

My dad also passed in 2018. I can only imagine the feeling of this discovery. ❤️

u/EfficientAnt6769 5h ago

Crazy cool. this is absolutely priceless. I would cry & laugh at the same time if I found my mom on google maps.

u/Icy_Celebration7647 5h ago

My dad also. For me it is very strange ... i do not know.

u/Routine-Ad7228 5h ago

This looks a lot like Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu! I’m from there! Sorry for your loss that can’t be easy even that long after.

u/Live-Note-3799 5h ago

My Dad passed in 2013. While I was planning my trip to his house before he passed I looked it up on Google Maps and THERE HE WAS from 2011 out front working in the yard. There's even a shot of him checking out the Google Maps car. Though he's been gone 13 years, he's still alive and well on the internet tinkering in the yard.

Edit: Spelling.

u/AirOne7760 5h ago

thats so cool, I don’t have my dad and definitely envy you.. savor every moment my friend

u/LateFaithlessness907 5h ago

I would get VR to relive the moment

u/louerbrat 4h ago

My Pap (who raised me, essentially my dad) passed in 2022. He's also on the Google street view, and I am not looking forward to the day where I have to look at older versions just to see him standing outside of the house with his hand on his belly like he used to do.

Anyways. What a bittersweet feeling it is to find something like that. I hope you're healing/doing well.

u/InformalProtection74 4h ago

My dad passed 3 months ago. We had had his celebration of life last month. People were showing me the pictures on Google maps when they looked up our address and he was standing out in front of the house. 😢

u/pc_gamerguy 4h ago

This made me smile tho personally I have never been able recognized any face in google street view

u/FossilizedMeatMan 3h ago

My sister had a dachshund, the first dog she got when she moved out of our parents house. That dog was her most beloved creature in the world. He always waited her in front of her house. Unfortunately, after a couple of goings against a herniated spine and two cancers, he did not resist a surgery. She was devastated.

But I found out that he was caught on google maps, in front of the house, waiting for her. So in a way, she can always see him there, sitting patiently...

u/SignorRoberto 2h ago

I did this when I found out you could go back in time with street view. Found my late grandfather and father in law. Bit surreal to see them again, other than in posed pictures.

Really sorry for your loss! No matter the type of relation or time, it often can be jarring, especially when it’s totally unexpected.

Story - I’m a classical vocal musician. My teacher lives on the other side of the world and we have online classes most of the year. One year my dad was visiting and I was in the class. It was a normal class. I’m usually juggling a few things while in class, parent of young kids and all. I record my sessions with my teacher for future reference and practice.

I was revising a piece from 3 years ago and forgot a verse. Started the recording, I had headphones on and 2 minutes in, I hear my dad calling my name. For a micro second probably I thought he was in the room with me. I couldn’t believe it. My dad passed away last year and I haven’t seen any of his pictures/videos as I wasn’t ready, I’m still not. This came as a total surprise.

C’est dans quel quartier de Montrèal? Car je reconnais bien le style des immeubles!

u/fronkka 19m ago

I have a similar story. My coworkers grandfather had just passed away and she went on google street view to show me what their house looked like and her grandfather could be seen working in the garden. It was very sweet.
