What we really desperately need is to create to a society that doesn't have to rely on untrained civilians to protect its children.

I almost worry that encouraging this kind of behavior not only A) sets new expectations for other school staff to do the same, and B) encourages people to say "it's okay that we don't have gun laws because there will always be a good guy with a gun to stop the bad guys with guns".

I've already seen people in my state pressure teachers to bring guns to their classrooms and step in to save their kids in case of a shooting.

Teachers are already the most underpaid and unappreciated role in our society, and now we're putting additional pressure on them to save lives without giving them any actual support or training.

It's passing the blame to these poor teachers who are already financially and emotionally picking up the slack of negligent parents and the government out of their own paychecks.

They shouldn't be expected to die because we as a society can't get it together and safely regulate gun ownership.
