I think it’s time we started discussing how problematic Love Island is as a concept. In the same way that you can’t expect hate groups to function without hatred, you can’t expect a show centred around manipulation with discriminatory undertones to lack manipulation with discriminatory undertones.

The only way that a lot of its problems will be solved is if the show is cancelled outright, which I wouldn’t be opposed to if it meant less discrimination.

They're right about that, though. Like I understand their post came off badly, but ITV is profiting from peoples' outrage and that's the driving force of the show's success.

The more people waste energy, time and money thinking they can make Love Island progressive via discourse, the more the producers will ensure that it isn't.

You think complaining about misogyny on social media is doing something to make progress?

I understand the other user seemed condescending but I think what he's saying is... the more you complain about misogyny, the more misogyny ITV will throw in your face. If you ignore it, the producers will have to change their strategy.

I actually said that you ought to stop validating the producers bringing crappy people on the show, just like how you'd ignore a bully at school, but sure, have your cake and eat it. While you're at it, go and tell white supremacist groups that they're good to go as long as they calm down with the racism.

I can't believe you think Love Island is supposed to be this kind, healthy show. Strip away the toxicity, and what's actually left of it? Why do you watch the show?
