We <3 Libraries I LOVE THE FREAKING LIBRARY (but why are all the fun things like a secret lol)

Upvotes

It took until 2025 to become obsessed with the library and I can’t believe it took me so long. I have been taking out books since I was a teenager and I used the computers/printers in high school. But they have so many bonus perks I keep finding out from TikTok?!? Like I discovered Libby earlier this year and then Hoopla today. My kids can watch Mo Willems stories come to life and I am absolutely over the moon right now. Someone said on instagram that you can get passes to the national parks. My library apparently has a seed library too which helps restore native plants to the area

So here’s my question: what other non-advertised awesomeness am I missing out on???

Library Assistance Having issues using Libby offline, please help

Upvotes

I'm leaving on a trip soon and tried using Libby offline and I'm having issues.

Even though there is loads of time left on my book loans, Libby is telling me the loans are expired. I clearly have 12 days left and the item is downloaded. Then I switch my phone to airplane mode and try to read any of the books and they all say they are expired.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Creative and Crafty bookmarks out of old catalog cards

Post image
Upvotes

my boss gave me a huge box of old catalog cards from one of our district’s elementary libraries. they’re so wonderfully dated (film strips & cassetes!!) and some of these titles seem really cool.

i do a bunch at a time, and then forget about it for a few months, and then do another bunch… i save a few as gift tags (esp. the holiday themed stuff), but the large majority i donate to my public library - they have a lil bookstore run by the ‘friends’ org.

i use a gift tag punch i got for a few dollars from our local craft reuse thrift store, and i have an industrial amount of black mercerized embroidery thread on a giant cone, from an old science kit our school was throwing out during basement renovations way back when. i am both poor and stubborn, which is conducive to zero waste crafting. even if i could afford to buy materials new, my stubbornness won’t allow for it.

Local Library Nice Study spaces for adults - Johannesburg

Upvotes

Hi all

I’m studying in my 40’s and really looking to get out of the house. I need a calm cafe where I can open my laptop and read notes and order a couple 100 coffees. Please suggest your spaces. I went to the Sandton library and the wifi is dodgy and no coffee. How a corporate hasn’t sponsored the wifi there was beyond me?!

I’m an ex witsie so I could go to the library but it’s filled with students.

Visited this library last night when I attended a big annual Main Street car show nearby.

The library comprises two old buildings into one. The stacks area was originally a church and then the Children's room was originally a bank. Still has glass floors.

I heard that there is a new building project that may occur in the future for the Middletown library. Any insight?!?

Feedback is appreciated.

P.S. It's one of my favorite libraries to visit in CT

When lawmakers seek to review a list of books, librarians find themselves on the frontlines of a national battle. Across the U.S., librarians face the impact of uniting against library collection standards that include restrictions on race-related and LGBTQIA+ content. Drawing on historical context, The Librarians, directed by Kim A. Snyder, explores the broader implications for education and public life.
