Hello Latin speaking people, I’m hoping for some advice. I’m having a discussion with one of my friends about Latin (neither of us know much about the language) and we can’t agree on whether “Hoc Quoque Transhibit” or “Haec Quoque Transhibut” would be the more correct or appropriate for trying to write “this too shall pass”, or if there’s some other way of writing it that’s more correct. Neither of us particularly trust google translate or AI to get it right, I figured it was worth asking people who actually know Latin! Can anyone advise please? Thank you

Im currently using William Linney’s book Getting Started with Latin and right now I have found it to be quite helpful to remember basic vocabulary and some structure of the sentences.

Though, I see many people recommending to immediately start with Familia Romana, so should I try with that first? I have tried to read the first chapter and I understood some sentences but found the grammar notes in the margins to be quite confusing.

Reading difficulty will always be subjective, based mostly on what we've already read and mastered.

But books do have objective qualities that can help us rank them along a reading difficulty spectrum.

I made this visual atlas to help figure out what works have broadly similar difficulty levels, which helps us find a good next read that's a doable step up the ladder but doesn't throw us in over our heads.

I set Familia Romana chapter one as 1.00 on a 0.00 to 10.10 scale, with every other work floating freely in comparison to it.

The metrics used are:

• Surface: Sentence length, vocabulary variety (type-token ratio), word length
• Lexical: Rare / very-rare / unseen vocabulary fraction, proper-name burden
• Morphosyntactic: Finite-verb density, nonfinite constructions, subordination, case-form diversity
• Progression: Entry burden, sustained burden, late-work burden, peak burden
• Dialogue-specific: Dialogue density, ellipsis rate (short verbless utterances), speaker-turn rate

I had this data because I've been building contextual glossing for Librorum Capsula, and had to have detailed data about each sentence. From that base, I could create rankings for entire books.

Right now I've only got a bit over 100 works of various types and lengths in the Atlas, but I expect it will become more and more useful as I build out Librorum Capsula's library.

hello everyone, I do not speak Latin myself but I am developing a new mobile word puzzle game (a successor of Word Tango, my current word puzzle game), I would like to add latin so people can play it in my game. I understand that there are the old words, and that also more modern words have a latin word nowadays. I asked Chatgpt for advice and it told me: Take Classical Latin vocabulary supplemented with selected established later and modern Latin words. Is that a good advice, or would you say: stick to the old words ? Thanks for your advice :-)

I made a program that I wanted to share with everyone to help learn latin. It latin vocab list turns it into an audio file with the Latin in classical-ish Latin pronunciation and then the English definition in normal English. Its been helping me learn at work and I would just like to put it out there because I couldnt find any audio program able to switch between English & Latin pronunciation when I was looking a while back. If anyone has any questions shoot out a comment or suggest changes.

These lines come from blind guardian's the ninth wave. I know what most of it means, but google translate seemed to have a stroke with the third line. It claims it means the last side of the phallus. I looked up phallus and it says penis, usually erect penis. This is commicly incorrect, no way that is the line. I got different results depending on how much I asked it to translate, when I only asked for phala it said it means porridge. Help would be appreciated, though do keep in mind it is possible that these simply are not the right lyrics, it can be hard to track down perfect lyrics with this band.​
