Hi, I'm R'Kado. I write Farside, a dystopian political science fiction serial with a queer lead. No stat systems, no leveling, just a stratified, oppressive world with a body count that means something.

It is not a romance, though there is a relationship in the book, between two men on opposite sides of that system, and it does not end well for either of them. The theme I wanted to explore was what stratified scarcity does to people who might otherwise have chosen each other. The idea started from wanting a queer lead whose being gay isn't the plot. The water monopoly is the plot.

Any high fantasy books featuring gay wizards, major battles, and complex magic? Think D&D campaign kind of tone where heroes go on a campaign to save the realm.

I read my first of his books a couple of years ago and, recently, I rediscovered him and fell in love with his books again. Something about the trans and autistic characters with struggles that are the same as others with the touches of horror/supernatural elements just makes me excited to keep reading.

I’m also looking for an intense story, not just romance/sex. Give me angst, drama, mystery, horror, fantasy, complicated characters, whatever just want something with an actual plot that keeps me hooked.

The only book I’ve read that I really loved was Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. I loved the story, the trans rep, the romance, and the supernatural elements, but obviously it’s YA, and I’m looking for something aimed at adults this time.

I’d love to find someone interested in reading my biographical novel about the life of a real bisexual Regency gentleman. The story is based on unpublished journals and letters documenting the life of the Honourable Keppel Craven, his lover Sir William Gell, and the woman at the heart of their queer household.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from gay male readers, and bonus points if you’re English. I’m not looking for in-depth analysis or a formal critique. What I really want is your reaction to the relationships between the men: do their attraction, intimacy, jealousy, sexual behaviour and general psychology feel authentic to you? If something doesn’t ring true, I’d love to know what and why.

I've been busy gorging sapphic novels lately. That said, I am actually pretty new to sapphic novels (I spent several years not reading, then read fanfic, then moved into novels). Anyhow, I now need some recommendations. I'll list what I'm looking for, as well as what I've read to help give an idea of what I'm wanting.

First, I love high angst books, such as enemies to lovers, or some kind of high-angst event that happens at one point. Second, HEA is a must. Third, it doesn't need to be high angst - just so long as I'm kicking my feet merrily from either high joy or high angst. Fourth, I prefer third person POV. I'm not very fond of first person, but I will read it if the story is good. Lastly, in terms of spice level, I'd say explicit. At least one explicit scene, but preferably two, and most preferably one that occurs during an important moment (ex. not a random sex scene tossed in, but one where it actually is important to the story and showing the characters getting closer in an emotional and intimate way).

Now, here are some of favorite reads thus far, to help get good recommendations. I'll list all the sapphic books I've read at the bottom of the post to avoid recommendations of books I've already read.

Books I've read that I enjoyed quite a bit:

Ribbonwood (angsty, enemies to lovers, spicy, cute)

Hotel Queens (angsty, enemies to lovers)

The Whole Truth (angsty, enemies to lovers, spicy, cute)

The Snowball Effect (angsty, enemies to lovers, spicy, cute)

The Hideout + the follow up book Any Kind of Life (angsty, age gap, spicy, cute)

A Whisper of Solace (angsty, spicy)

The Headmistress (angsty, age gap, spicy, cute)

Big Swiss (angsty, age gap, spicy)

I think only two of those I listed I gave five stars... Most tend to max out at four. Anyhow, in terms of angst, stories like A Whisper of Solace, Headmistress, and These Thing Lines by Milena McKay have some insane levels of angst. Also, The Hideout (although, I think Any Kind of Life is more angsty). Something I enjoy. That's the kind of angst I'm looking for.

Jealousy trope... now that... It's hard to remember which books had this. I'm trying to get better about tagging them after I finish them, but I'll clearly have to work on that. Anyhow, for suggestions regarding the jealousy trope, I am looking for something perhaps simple? I would prefer the character that gets jealous is the one that is less invested, perhaps doesn't realize their feelings or is holding them back, etc. Not the character who has already been put through the ringer getting jealous lol. Essentially, jealousy as a plot device to propel the less invested/colder person forward.

As for books that aren't surrounding some kind of impending tragedy, jealousy, or angst of other sorts - fluff works. Like I said, as long as I'm merrily kicking my feet. The Snowball Effect, Paint the Moon, The Whole Truth, The Fiancée Farce, Written in the Stars, In the Lonely Hours - those all have some very sweet bits in them, despite the angst elements. So, anything that can capture that.

Now, here's a list of the other things I've read (and enjoyed, the lowest any book got was a two-star, and that was only one book. All the others are three star):

Breaking Character (this technically may be a four star one... I haven't rated it yet because I wanted to sit with it longer)

Guava Flavored Lies (enjoyed the story + MCs, but something was missing... I think it was that it felt like things were happening, yet at the same time, weren't. If that makes sense?)

The View from the Top (this is my last read and I enjoyed it, but I only just finished it, so I've not had a chance to decide on my rating for it)

Any recommendations would be appreciated. My to-read list is getting big, and I see other books that look interesting, but I can't decide. Looking at what I've requested... it would appear I basically asked for either a soap opera or a romcom. Lmfao 😂

I want to read stories depicting real battles with brutality and intensity and I want to find some queer ones for pride month. I however hate romance and my desperate failure to find A-spec representation in anything that I actually like has destroyed any tolerance for romance that I have. I want one where the characters are ideally A-spec or genderqueer, or if gay/bi, they just are gay/bi and don’t have romance. I would love to find some book about a queer person who enlists in world war 1 as a form of suicide as so many of them did or something like that.

I did find "From Here to Eternity" (though from what I've heard it's more of a peacetime films about coincidentally about soldiers) and actually have "The Thin Red Line" and "Innocent Rouge (though the latter is a sequel to another comic series and only gets to the war stuff at the end) but I'm curious if I can find others.

All the A-spec rep is either vauge, is in stuff I'm not interested in or is unrelatable (maybee, we'll get to that).

I do not like fantasy or futurism or fluff, I want my stories to deal with reality and to make me feel emotions. There are exceptions but those exceptions don't have ace rep except that which is just a vauge lack of desire which isn't what I want. I wanna know that the character is asexual or aromantic or orchidsexual or whatever.

I like historical fiction. I like intense battle scenes. I like a certain type of horror that I can't really describe (the unifying factors tend to be social commentary and psycological horror but that is not always the case such as the short film "Call me tonight" (1985) which I like because it is a good metaphor for disconcordance in a sexual context which as an orchidsexual, I relate to). The MAgnus Arhcives I love and it has an ace protagonist but, I don't feel it. The Same goes for old gods of Appalachia.

Now comes the part with the books. Leeward depicts the battle of the Nile, but only one scene actually depicts a historical event and other then that it is just a period piece about a completely fiction campaign, and I worry that I won't relate to the ace rep because he is so romance desiring. The reverse is the case with the horror novel (Compound Fracture) where he is aromantic but very homosexual, which seems promicing unlike Elatsoe and What Moves the Dead which are meh, but frankly I don't even know.

I will also not that I have played the Demo to 'Sucker for love: date to die for" and this is exactly what happened. The main characters was ace but she was thurpuhgly a desiring alloromantic and the only way her asexualityu came up in the thing is also the only way in which I find the orchidsexual and apithrosexual experiecnes differ so things might be different.

I dunno. What do yo think? also if oyu have alternatives please give 'em to me.

I am looking for a 2-book BoyxBoy (BxB) basketball romance duet that I read on Wattpad before 2019.

The title or part of it was "Playing for Keeps."

The cover at the time was a black-and-white photo of an outdoor concrete basketball courtyard with players (one shooting or mid-jump).

Plot Summary:

\\- Main Character (MC) is openly out. He catches his boyfriend cheating with a rival team's captain, so he transfers to a new school/city.

\\- At the new school, he joins the basketball team and crushes on the straight team captain (he is actually closeted not straight)

\\- MC goes to a party and begins a secret friends-with-benefits relationship with a teammate.

\\- The team goes on a trip to a cabin.

They play spin the bottle, and a dare forces the MC and the team captain to make out. Things get very heated, shocking the team.

\\- The MC and the team captain start a secret relationship because the captain doesn't want anyone to know he is gay.

\\- The cheating ex-boyfriend visits and points out that the MC shouldn't live in the closet when he has always been publicly out.

\\- MC asks the captain to go public; the captain refuses, and they break up.

\\- MC goes to a club, meets a gay couple, and almost hooks up with a guy who turns out to be the captain's ex-best friend.

The friend reveals that the captain previously outed him to his parents, who sent him to a conversion/rehabilitation camp.

\\- Later, the captain apologizes. A homophobic teammate hits MC in the hallway, and the captain punches that teammate, ending their friendship.

\\- The captain gets thrown out by his parents and goes to stay at shelter for LGBT youth run by the gay couple from the club.

\\- Book 1 Ends on this exact scene: The MC goes out of the city for a while.

\\- One of the guys from the gay couple video calls him, showing him the shelter. He tells him the team member he had a friends with benefits with and the tean captain's ex best friend are hooking up with eachother, the main character is surprised but the gay couple guy tells him he really doesn't know that they are both in love with him and them hooking up is their way of finding a distraction from him, the main character appears surprised and the guy tells him he has no idea the effect he has on people and then He comments that the MC has gotten tanner and more muscular and said a certain someone has been playing it cool even though he obviously misses him (meaning the team captain), The guy walks into the room where the captain is, and the captain appears on the video call, asking when the MC is coming back. That was where the book ended.

Does anyone remember the author's name, if the title changed, or if it was moved to Inkitt, Radish, or Amazon Kindle?
