Ask r/Kenya Can someone introduce me to GDP?
So guys, leo nataka mnipatie connections zenu za kutoka block. 😂
And please, for the love of God, msiniletee “work hard,” “be patient,” “nothing comes easy,” “Kenya hakuna pesa,” “hii ni hard-earned money” and all those motivational speeches.
I know.
I also know that Kenya is not one uniform economic experience.
I have seen some of the estates you people live in. I have seen the cars parked in those compounds. Someone wakes up and casually buys a KSh 20–40 million car. Someone else is comfortably paying KSh 150K+ rent. Kids are in schools whose fees would make the average Kenyan need to sit down first. And while one school is doing well, another newer, shinier, more exclusive one is already coming up.
So no, I refuse to participate in the collective performance that everyone is suffering.
There is money here.
There is access here.
There are rooms in this country where very different conversations about money, business, opportunity and influence are happening.
And I want to know some of the people having those conversations.
Not because I am greedy.
I am actually very clear about what I bring to the table. I am loyal. I am smart. I am intuitive. I am ambitious. I think deeply. I see patterns. I have ideas. I know how to build things. And perhaps most importantly, I am curious.
I also understand something about wealth: the truly wealthy rarely need to announce themselves.
They are not necessarily the loudest people online. They are not always showing up in every social circle. Some of them are deliberately invisible.
And honestly? So am I.
So to the people reading this who have access to those rooms, those networks, those conversations and those opportunities.
I am not asking you to give me money.
I am asking you to give me proximity.
Introduce yourself. Invite me for a conversation. Let us sit somewhere and talk. Tell me what you're building. Ask me what I am building. Challenge my ideas. Perceive my mind.
Give me one opportunity to be in the room.
Then decide whether I belong there.
Because perhaps the thing separating some of us from the lives we imagine isn't a lack of intelligence, ambition or ability.
Perhaps we simply haven't met the right people yet.
So, wenye mko na connections za kutoka block.
indulge me. Test the waters.
I have a feeling I might be worth knowing....
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Regards.
A Girl with a Dream.

What is your CV in 3 sentences? What value can you provide someone to make them think of you for opportunities? 3 sentences, total 50 words or less. Otherwise, tuendelee story tu.

I write campaign scripts, direct creative projects, and bring in the right teams to execute them. I help founders prepare for high-stakes pitches, represent them in meetings, and keep their business goals on track. My value is handling the storytelling, team building, and strategic focus so ideas actually get delivered.

Can you indulge yourself in farming. We have a shortage of food in the country.

Do you have land for me? And capital to start it off? Is there water in the land? Funds for emergency contingency?

I am loyal. I am smart. I am intuitive. I am ambitious. I think deeply. I see patterns. I have ideas. I know how to build things. And perhaps most importantly, I am curious.
You already have the right ingredients, before you meet those who will guide you and I hope you do, what i can tell you is read widely. And not motivational books, but books based on research, experiences e.t.c. They will take you further than an individual or few can. That has been my experience.

From a girl to another girl with a dream, create the connections you are looking for. Start with what you have and with time you will have a good network. Make sure every person you meet, before you part ways they know what you do. That way, you are likely to be linked with someone who knows someone. With the network, wealth will come. Also, be patient and take your time. Ask people what they do and be ready to learn.

I love your thinking and approach Girl With A Dream. It will take you far if you're consistent. I'm not there yet so I can't be of help.

Wake up and deal with your own reality because it is from there that you can go forward

I really like the way you think about this.
Instead of trying to find the right person directly, I’d look for organisations and communities where those people already gather.
Have you considered international development organisations, foundations or business-focused NGOs in Nairobi? Especially around entrepreneurship, education, sustainability or economic development.
You might find that getting into the right ecosystem opens more doors than chasing individual connections.

So what you bring to the table is you're loyal and smart and deep thinker and invisible? That's as generic as it gets. Everyone else can (and probably will) say the same thing.

So you choose to ignore this part;
" Invite me for a conversation. Let us sit somewhere and talk. Tell me what you're building. Ask me what I am building. Challenge my ideas. Perceive my mind.
Give me one opportunity to be in the room."
So you can find fault in my thought and a negative perspective as that is what you were clearly looking for. What gain is there?
If my thought process doesn't resonate with you just pass it. Don't feed me negativity.

If you're looking for an echo chamber it's cool, I'm sure there will be plenty of "you go girl" comments. But again, generic. You said a lot without saying much. There will be plenty who see this and pass because they don't know if you have any qualities or skills that fit what they are building (hint: it's not smart and loyal). But just in case you need this more, here you go: "you go girl"!

Ohh mate, I have met so many people like you. I don't need you to clap for me nor do I need you to approve of me.
Also this conversation ends here. Have a good life.

Let the girl be , closed mouths don’t get fed. She’s audacious enough to look for insights whether it pays off or not ,she’s at least trying.
•
u/Capable_K 22h ago
The prob is you think am against her. I'm pointing out the missing part where she didn't indicate what she'd bring to the table that would make someone scrolling stop and take interest. But yeah, she has audacity and all the best to her

Writing down a list of skills doesn't solve the core issue, as evidenced by the constant posts from skilled individuals who still can't find opportunities. Skill sets are easy to display; character, thought process, and problem-solving ability are what actually dictate whether a working relationship succeeds.
Is the assumption here that someone's value or intent is entirely defined by a bulleted list of skills? I invited a conversation to understand how people think and communicate, qualities that are often dismissed as generic until a project or relationship fails without them. Technical lists sound impressive, but they don't capture how someone actually operates.

You have pinpointed something which I think most of us keep forgetting: Mentorship. Your humility is also admirable!
