Katowice business trip

Hi there! I (25M) am going to visit Katowice during September 8-12.

This is my first time in Poland and I would much appreciate what places are worth to visit during this period: sightseeings, maybe some events, nightlife and just places with most Katowice vibes)

kościół mariacki at the end of mariacka street, 3 maja street, dworcowa street, rynek, spodek arena, mck, nospr are all in the center and your usual spots to visit. i also highly recommend a unesco heritage site called nikiszowiec which is around 15 minutes by bus from the center. enjoy!

Ok, so the most important ones (descending order):

• Nikiszowiec district - unique brick architecture of a former worker's district (Śląska Prohibicja if you want to eat something there; there's also a cafe on the main square)
  
• Park Śląski - one of the largest parks in Europe, a perfect example of socialist era leisure planning (in a good way) with a zoo, stadium and a planetarium in it.
  
• Mariacka + Dworcowa streets for the highest concentration of restaurants, pubs and clubs
  
• Osiedle Tysiąclecia + Osiedle Roździeńskiego if you're a modernist architecture freak
  
• Park Kościuszki, 3 stawy if you haven't had enough of green spaces after Park Śląski
  
• I'd also say GKS Katowice match (it hurts to say it as a Ruch Chorzów fan), but they're playing an away game, so no luck this week.

That's basically it.

Not sure about the religious stuff, as it's not really my thing.

Oh, also any concert in NOSPR if you're lucky, but they're usually sold out quite early

For nightlife: Mariacka Street. Many pubs, bars and clubs.

Just watch out for girls trying to get you into some clubs - avoid those because you will get scammed.

There's a Czech Bar - Hospoda near the city centre, it's really cheap and you can get a good beer there if you'd like

Nice to see is Park Śląski (Silesian Park). Big park with many things to do.

Nikiszowiec is an old miners district, nice to see, there are some restaurants there as well. The most famous is Śląska Prohibicja, however it's a bit overpriced.

If there is a nice weather, then many people gather around Sztauwajery in Dolina Trzech Stawów (3 lakes valley). There is an open-air pub, but many people just take blankets, small barbeques and have fun there.

Nice place is Muchowiec - between an airport and forest there is a park with some nice restaurants (I like grilled dishes in Sezonovo), but it makes sense only if weather is good. Also it's a nice walk from Sztauwajery.

I often spend time in Park Kościuszki, but I live nearby.

If you are into hc music, I see there is a gig in Drzwi Zwane Koniem 11th September. There are some more concerts 11th and 12th as well.

Go to Nikiszowiec area and eat at Śląska prohibicja. Try our local cuisine - rolada śląska z kluskami :)

Additional note: Katowice is main city of greater metro area, so don't focus just on it. There's plenty to see also in other cities here.

If you're into industrial history check out https://zabytkitechniki.pl/ .

But honestly try to reserve more time if you can. If you only have 4 days you will not have enough time to see all interesting things around the metropoly.

Consider visiting Zabrze and Guido Coal Mine. Its 15-20 minutes from center od Katowice so in some cities it would within it's area. Or Silver Mine in Tarnowskiego Góry.

I would avoid Mariacka - yes there are a lot of clubs but mostly low/middle quality when it comes to their customers Sztauwajery are much better with nice vibes at night but it’s an open sky bar so that can be an issue. Visit „park slaski” and take a ride with cable car and visit „planetarium” if you like space.

I like Katowice city center at south side of train trucks not north - north side is more modern but south side has some awesome buildings from XIX and early XX century. Visit area around „Sejm slaski”

I see that 11-13 there are Katowice's birthday, so there will be some (free) concerts near Silesian Museum and some events on the main square. Note it might be a little bit crowded then.

Silesian Museum is a must see thing, exhibition is available in Polish, English and German. Really, cannot recommend enough.

For a beer I like Sztauwajery or Latem Katowice

Several, tylko Katowice czy okolica 30-60min również? Jeśli to drugie, mam dla Ciebie parę ciekawych i dość unikatowych propozycji jak pustynia, spływ podziemiami starej kopalni srebra czy zjazd kilkaset metrów pod ziemią do starej kopalni węgla.

Silesian Park in Chorzów (zoo and Legendia amusement park), the Silesian Museum in Katowice, Guido Mine and Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, a classic 1940s tram on line T38 in Zabrze (on weekends between 9am and 5pm), the vintage Nikiszowiec district of Katowice.

All easly accessable by public transport, no matter where in the metropolis you stay.
