Question A very particular help request here !

Yes !!

First of all, I am a Japanese Horror movies fan too, so don't worry about that topic here, I will show some of my videos here soon...

However, since there are fans who may have their own Japanese movies in DVD/Blu-rays (may be Japanese editions or American ones) I need a help to understand a weird situation: I have a Panasonic BlueRay, region-free with a very cool video accelerator that improves the video resolution to DVDs in the best way possible, and personally, I'm so happy. As an example, I have the EKO EKO AZARAK DVDs, and I like how they looks in that player.

If need more info, I can leave the link here: Panasonic Blu-ray Player

I purchased it past March and until now it's working so great... I've been buying some DVDs and Blu-rays. (the last purchase was TOMIE: Rebirth)

However.. the situation I wanna share: I ordered the Sukeban Deka DVD (the one from the image), first I ordered a sealed one, so good price. As soon as it arrived, I opened and played... everything good... but... it froze at certain scene. Then seconds later, the player turned off. I had to turn it on and play it again... and froze by the second time at the same scene... then the player turned off... So I decided to message the seller, but he did not accept returns... I had to do a bad review and open a dispute, it made him to step back and do a refund. I wanted to wait some days and I ordered the same title again, but at that time I decided for a used one, just because of the simple reason: if used, the seller played it at least once, so knows that can watch the movie. Ok.. after weeks waiting, it arrived and I started to play it and watch all the movie... suddenly got frozen... IN THE SAME SCENE !. I thought I made a confusion and I played the new one, so I had to play the other disc.... again "same scene freeze"

I just find out that the new DVD may be in good condition and I made a bad treat to the first seller.. I fell bad for him.. damn..

Anyway, the point is: why that Panasonic player cannot play that disc? The same title, but one new and the other used and freeze in the EXACT scene. Or is the DVD non-compatible with that player?

I wrote to the distributor and I'm waiting for the reply, but I wanted to know if someone here may have this player and knows that movie and can explain what's going on... PLEASE !!

Help/Suggestion Doll/Mannequins horror

Upvotes

Hey y'all, recently I've been watching some J-horror movies featuring dolls, whether they're the main focus (like in Dollhouse 2025) or just present in a segment (like in ep 3 of Gakkou no Kaidan or the first segment of Curse, Death & Spirit). Japanese dolls are what truly unsettle me, far more than ghosts or various yokai. That uncanny valley vibe is the best form of horror for me.

Can you suggest me any J-horror movies or anthologies with dolls or mannequins? I'm particularly particularly interested in Ichimatsu Ningyo, but anything goes! I don't mind if they're the main plot device or just a minor element nor if they're famous or unknown movies. Thanks in advance!

Discussion Saddest moment/ending in a horror film/series?

Upvotes

I just recently finished Rasen, and the ending of the final episode just broke me. The main character just died in front of his wife just after the end credits, right before the episode ended; his son just died for the second time as well...

Help/Suggestion Looking for a video of a female ghost caught on camera during a school play or dance recital?

Upvotes

A man is filming what looks like a school dance recital when he sees a ghost woman appear as a shadowy figure on stage in background. Obviously disturbed the man gets up and excuses himself but leaves his camera running in his seat. Whiles he’s gone the ghostly woman’s face appears in front of the camera. This video honestly creeped me out unlike than anything else. I think I saw the original video from the Youtuber Mr. Nightmare's Scary Japanese Videos in 2021 or 2022 but it has since been privated or deleted. Any help finding the original video would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How does Ikuko not know her mother died? When she goes to her old house she sees her mother living there and is just surprised she lives there, not that she's alive.

So how does she not know her mother died, since it happened in front of her eyes 10 years ago???

Question I've recently learnt about Kisaragi from a song. What exactly is it?

Upvotes

I do realize these aren't movies which the rules state it must be a movie I'm talking about, so if there's a subreddit focused on overall J Horror rather than only movies, if you could please point me in that direction, I'd appreciate it.

~~

I did a bit of searching upon the songs in Camellia's album 'U.U.F.O." after I learnt that polybius was a real game and not a name Camellia made up.

That led me to learn about The * Red * Room and Kisaragi, along with some others that aren't Japanese horror in specific.

Because I'm too lazy to do anything on my own, I've come to ask what Kisaragi Station is exactly! I did search for the 2chan post before quickly remembering I'm not fluent in Japanese yet after trying to read any of the kanji.

Is there an English translation of the Kisaragi Station thread? I know there's videos, but I wanna read the original thread before hearing other people's interpertations I think.

And along that, I didn't do any research upon The * Red * Room, so is that something interesting?

Help/Suggestion What j-horror should I watch?

Upvotes

I've seen:

House, Kuroneko, Kwaiden, Audition, Cure, Demons, Face of Another, Goke, Jigoku, Matango, Onibaba, Ringu, Ugetsu, Dark Water, Ghost Story of Yotsuya, Ju-On, Creepy, Evil Dead Trap, Ichi the Killer, Noroi the Curse, Tetsuo the Iron Man, and Pulse. I'm probably missing some but I pulled this from a letterboxd list that another user had, and this is what I've definitively seen from the j-horror genre.

My favorites are Pulse, Tetsuo, and House. But I have a lot of love for most of these. What should I try? Either based on my favorites or based on movies missing from my list. Thanks!

Discussion What if we got Ju-on: The Grudge 3 ?

In 2013 there where rumours about last movie of the franchise, instead we got a soft reboot with Ju-on The Beginning of the End. But if Ju-on: The Grudge 3 would have had green light, what story or plot would have told?

Discussion Thoughts on Tokyo Fist

Upvotes

I watched it as my second ever Tsukamoto to film, and it unfortunately didn’t click for me (which was strange since I did end up loving Bullet Ballet).

His films are very visceral, however, and whether or not each one speaks to you can be subjective, so maybe that’s why. Should I give it a rewatch?

For me its in Ju On The Grudge 2. I know it may not be the biggest thing but Kyoko's mom isn't really consumed by the curse like others and I've always wondered why. her spirit even protects her at one point. I admit I may be looking at it wrong though

Review Dark Tales of Japan

I found this anthology movie to be pretty decent. Each of the segments gives off a bizarre vibe on how weird each one of them is. My favorite is Crevices & Presentiment which I found both of them to be pretty effective. The other segments range from bizarre to forgettable. But they are creative on how they told. While I didn't find this movie creepy, it gives off a eerie vibe to them. Overall, it's a decent anthology.
