Title, general question honestly. I'm moving to the Isle of Man from Wales soon, and I want to know if I'll have a challenge finding jobs, giving the island is relatively small. (no offence, promise!)
I work in IT, handling servers. I believe that's a job that's in need in most countries?

So basically this is a hypothetical question because I have no plans or whatsoever of visiting any part of the UK or Ireland in the foreseeable future, but this has suddenly bugged my mind and I had to find it out.

So say I manage to figure out my hypothetical UK/Ireland trip, how and where from to get to the Isle. I wonder if it’s doable with no car, and if the commute services are good enough - to get to all kinds of stuff the isle has to offer.
Or if I would have to choose to stay at one major place, and perhaps finding a line that can take me somewhere else once in a while - but no opportunity of deeply exploring the place.

my partner and i are born manx residents who need to move out soon. my partner is at college and is physically disabled. i'm an agoraphobic who would like to work, but can't due to my mental circumstance. i can't even go down to the shops, let alone to an office or site. i understand that some people are on benefits because they can't be bothered, have no drive to work, want to cheat the system, or what have you, but that isn't the case here.

so at the moment, not only am i being passed around by three different mental health services who can't decide what to do with me (i swear, i need help Yesterday but i can't get it), my partner and i on our joint claim can't afford even the cheapest accomodation around. we've been to housing matters, spoken to landlords all over the place, and put in our forms to go on the housing list, but nobody can help us. it's hopeless.

Listened to it, and to my untrained ears (not a fan of racing) it seems like a radio broadcast covering the 1994 event. Can I tape over it or is it world renowned lost media and needs digitising?

Something I was thinking about recently was about how new electric aviation could make the puddle hop from Dublin to Holyhead (using nearby RAF Valley’s mothballed civilian terminal) a more viable option for people who want to get to/from the UK and Europe but can trade time for carbon emissions savings. I realise, though, that yourselves up in Douglas would be a similar distance and have even less connection options than Dublin.

If you could get to the trains at Holyhead in an hour for further rail to the rest of the UK & beyond, would it be something of interest? Maybe it would push further links between Ffestiniog’s Boston Lodge works snd your own heritage rail works? What say ye?

I’ve applied for a Worker Migrant Dependant visa for the Isle of Man. My husband has been living and working there since December 2024.
I attended my biometrics appointment outside of the UK/Isle of Man on 17 June. I was advised that the processing time would be up to 10 weeks, but I reached the 10-week mark last week and still haven’t received a decision or any further updates.
Has anyone else recently received their approval? If so, when did you attend your biometrics appointment, and how long did it take for you to receive your decision?

Anyone who has recently applied for a CoE recently, how long did it take for you to get it after signing your employment offer. After that how long did it take you to get the visa ?

Ive just spent the most wonderful 4 days on the Isle. What a beautiful and interesting place it is. But what will actually will stay with me is the genuine, down to earth friendliness, good humour and kindness shown to my wife and myself by the fine people on the Isle (except for 1 bus driver who was less than helpful) we have loved every minute. The old market inn was like catching up with family, thanks to Colin and Cathy. The Rovers Return was great, as was O'Donnell's. Im on the ferry now heading to Liverpool with a tear in my eye. Its a long way back to New Zealand, but I'll be back! The classic TT was bought forward, so we missed all the racing, didn't matter, had the absolute best time anyway. Even the crazy old buzzard at Murray's museum calling me a f'n wanker was all part of an unforgettable experience. 😁

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to hear from anyone who has been through the Isle of Man family visa process, particularly the accommodation requirement.

My partner is Canadian and has applied for a family visa to join me in the Isle of Man. I’m a British citizen and sponsoring his application.

We have now been waiting around 6 months, and yesterday we received an email from the UK Decision Making Centre requesting additional evidence of adequate accommodation. They have given us 10 working days to provide it.

As far as we understand, we meet the other requirements and have proof of sufficient funds but the problem is accommodation.

At the moment, I’m staying in a licensed HMO where there is one person permitted per room. Obviously, my partner cannot simply be added to that address.

We also haven’t taken on a long-term rental yet because we have no indication of when the visa will actually be granted. We’re trying to avoid paying double rent for an extended period while waiting for the application to be decided.

The email is quite vague and says that we need to provide evidence that there will be adequate accommodation for us, but it doesn’t appear to specify how long the accommodation needs to be secured for.

So I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Did anyone use temporary accommodation while waiting for their visa and have it accepted? Such as Airbnb, Island Escapes/holiday let, etc.

We’re obviously conscious that we only have 10 working days to respond, so any experiences or advice would be hugely appreciated!

Hi! I'm looking for some old skateboard videos (2 to 4 parts of the same 'series') that I think may have been de-listed from the web.

I'm talking maybe 15-20 years ago now, so it's possible they weren't actually on youtube and could have been hosted elsewhere like Vimeo. I've looked all over before posting here so if anyone finds them easily I'm so sorry!

I can name 1 person in the videos as Callum, but I won't full name on Reddit.

It was a mix of lads from all over, but mainly Ramsey if I'm remembering correctly.

The videos featured footage of skating in Douglas but I think there was a couple of other places in some of the clips.

I've been racking my brain trying to remember the name of the videos so will update if it comes to me, it was a little obscure, possibly 1 or 2 words, and not as simple as 'Isle of Man Skate Vid' making this a little harder.

Hi, my husband and I are travelling with my 18 month old for a few days next month.

We are staying in Douglas, we won't have a car.

We are planning on going to Port Erin/Laxey.

We can't do anything too strenuous as we have our toddler but we all love nature.

We were also wondering about any food recommendations? I love seafood so definitely want to get some good Queenies, but wasn't really sure about other food options in Douglas. We like food with some flavour and spice too.

We like nice bakeries, coffee shops etc too.

Are there any recommendations for stuff that a toddler would enjoy too?

Also any other bookshops than the Bridge in Port Erin?
