How do we design our living room?

My BF and I recently moved into an apartment and the layout is awkward for us. The L-shape is creating some spacing issues and we are unsure of how to navigate it. How do we design our living room???

I have a template of our layout and furniture in case anyone wants to mess around with the layout. I also included some ideas we came up with, thanks! :)

What are you using to do this layout?

Would something like this work? This creates a nice zone for eating near the kitchen pass through, a cozy area by the fireplace, and path through that doesn't interrupt TV time. I would also add a sofa table behind the couch to anchor it.

I think this makes the most sense! We have a similar shaped room (albeit without the fireplace) and also zoned out one corner for lounge / kitchen / dining areas. It helps everything to function well.

Is the main entry to the house the door on the top? If so I would have the living room stuff on the top half and the dining room separated and on the bottom half. Same room but different zones. If you enter from the hallway, you can swap the zones and have sofa lower and dining room higher. I wouldn’t have the dining room table against a wall since then you have less room for chairs for guest. The piano would obviously be against a wall but could be in the middle on the left wall or where you have it in option 1. I like option 1 if you just move the dining room table more in front of the fireplace.

I have an L shaped upper floor area and it’s hard to work with and I’m still trying to make it better. We have a long room that is our living and dining room and our kitchen is separate

I’d make the couch and TV the main zone, then tuck the piano along the kitchen-side wall so the fireplace and hallway path stay open. A big rug could make that L shape feel way more intentional too.

I mounted my TV above my piano and I think it looks nice. Unsure what that little window is in your kitchen but if there's a solid wall there, and you're willing to do so, you could try that with #3, but place the piano against that wall. It's quite similar to my apartment's layout! 

Obviously if that window thing means you have an opening, you can't do that... I like the placement of your dining table against that area then, but all these have your TV stand in a corner which feels very awkward imo.
