Donating $500 and acting like you paid off a new library wing is wild.

u/BoulderMaker 4d ago

I'm told a man named Michael Scott paid for a student's computer battery? 🪫

So there's that...

u/Getoff-my_8allz 4d ago

Hey those batteries were lithium and he brought one for each of the class. Even fictional characters donate more then this chick.

u/BulkyDecipherer 4d ago

The difference being a) Michael wasn’t doing it for internet points, but because he sincerely wanted to help those kids, b) Michael wasn’t a millionaire (he was more broke than when he made the promise).

u/RapMastaC1 4d ago

Right where my head went

u/GOURMANDIZER 4d ago

I had to rewind and count the zeros 🤣
$500 is a crazy amount to write on a novelty giant check and have a ceremony about.

u/Amanda316 3d ago

Probably the minimum they would do a big check for. Adding the .00 at the end to make it look bigger is crazy.

u/Undrwtrbsktwvr 3d ago

A big check is just a prop-piece of cardboard, You can have one printed for a half-penny if you wanted.

ā€œGive back to my communityā€ lol

u/PuppyPower89 2d ago

Their faces say it all

u/WhitePhat 4d ago

I was about to say, maybe I’m the asshole but $500 ain’t shit these days. That being said, depending on the context like sure it’s great they donated but I get the sense that’s being generous given how much of it just looks like a photo op.

u/BulkyDecipherer 4d ago

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

$5,000, okay. But $500? Seriously?

u/Amanda316 3d ago

That’s why she added the extra .00’s at the end to look bigger.

→ More replies (2)

u/jmastaock 3d ago

Right? I just spent $300 on a power bill lmao

u/FartingBob 3d ago

With a giant novelty cheque?

u/killian1113 3d ago

Lucky! 300 is a low bill

u/My-Witty-Username 4d ago edited 23h ago

This reminds me of when Michael Scott donates to cure rabies and spends as much on the giant novelty check as what he’s donating.

u/BulkyDecipherer 4d ago

Definitely the very same thing lol. (unironically)

I hate to burst your bubble, but if you make houses this small, who is going to live in them?ā€

u/_TheShapeOfColor_ 3d ago

I love this movie lol

u/Dilostilo 3d ago

this has to be raigebait or delusion bc what in the fuck? who would be THIS dense, $500 doesnt cover anything but maybe fkr them $500 is enough? idk. this is rudiculious.

u/Gooncookies 3d ago

Yea like $500 you just fold up and slip into someone’s palm. The giant check is wild.

→ More replies (3)

u/p4p4shili 4d ago

The giant check with the 500$ written on it is so ridiculous

u/3PoundsOfFlax 4d ago

The check itself probably cost more than $500

u/Express-Stop7830 3d ago

TIL that you can a buy a 2-pack on Amazon for ~$22.

u/p4p4shili 4d ago

It might be 🤣

u/Ironsam811 3d ago

Hiring the stripper was the funniest part

u/Cool-Inflation4159 4d ago

Right. There needs to be a minimum amount required for giant novelty checks. Needs to be in the tens of thousands in my opinion.

u/razldazl333 3d ago

Now I want to get a novelty check to pay my bar tab at the end of a slow night.

u/p4p4shili 4d ago

Well yeah I bet she can invest 10k $ without any problems, considering her outfit probably costs more.

u/swabianne 4d ago

I thought it was missing a 0, but no

u/drkrelic OG 3d ago

I burst out laughing when I figured out it was only $500, that’s insane. This feels like an onion skit, the way she’s posing with them all like she did something incredible.

u/thissexypoptart 3d ago

This has to be a skit, right?

A grown adult woman couldn’t possibly think throwing herself a celebration over donating $500 is appropriate, right?

u/cm2460 3d ago

So I have a short track car we do local dirt oval racing with. Pretty much every end of season / memorial / Holliday weekend race is a ā€œbig dealā€ now so everyone gets these checks, except the 4 bangers are racing for like $150 bucks lol

Looking like happy Gilmore

u/FireflyOfDoom87 4d ago

$500? In this economy? That won’t even buy the entire team new uniforms.

u/sk_latigre 4d ago

Barely gets them all combos at McDonald's /s

u/Truestorydreams 3d ago

My day a combo was $5 CDN. Now I heard its about 17

u/BigToober69 3d ago

It really isn't enough to them all combo meals at mcd's. Sad.

u/Smooth_Marsupial_262 4d ago

My dog go picked up and dropped off at the pound the other day. Cost me $600 just to get her out! Fucking California…

u/tree_people 3d ago

Presumably because she’s not spayed? $600 is a lot less than it’ll cost the shelter when they have to fix the unwanted puppies when your intact dog roams and gets pregnant by the local pitbull/chihuahua. I get it sucks but it should be expensive for people to keep their dogs unfixed if they can’t keep it contained.

u/Canned_Sarcasm 4d ago

Goddam. Alright I guess I can’t bitch about our $30 fine.

u/ACosmicCastaway 4d ago

That ain’t even half my rent lol

u/Fiverocker 4d ago

Not even 32 GB of DDR5 ram

u/andykekomi 3d ago

They can get a pizza party but only those sad one we got at elementary school with the like quarter slices and shot glasses of pop

u/TooTallTrey 4d ago

Yeah I make $50k but will blow $200-$500 at a poker table and not even think twice. Donate $50k to move the needle damn.

u/Skurfer0 4d ago

We're having poker night on Saturday, if you're interested.

u/CaptainPicHard 4d ago

u/GordonBombay102 4d ago

Do you have any idea how many laptop batteries you could buy for $500?

u/CaptainPicHard 4d ago

About 4 on the high side and maybe 14 for temu ones

Not Scott's Tots!!😭 At least he was ashamed!!

u/Kneekoleyy 4d ago

Agreed. We should stop calling them influencers.

u/Expensive-Block-6034 4d ago

Oh they’re influencing me … but not in the way that I think brands want them to be

u/My-Witty-Username 4d ago edited 23h ago

Influencer is a dirty word now. A lot of people respond to influencers the same way they would respond to somebody telling them they are a real estate agent or they work for ICE 🤮

And then all put into some kind of resocialization camp where they could learn how to live among humans.

u/My-Witty-Username 4d ago

They’d document the whole thing and release a 47 part series about it on TikTok and start selling courses on how not to be an influencer.

Edit: Found her. The Merc, the outfit, hair and makeup and has a whole team as well. Do they even know how bad this looks?

u/Far-Imagination2736 4d ago

It's Aniya Harvey, her dad was a NBA player and she just was the runner up on Love Island

u/jim9162 4d ago

She dug deep for the kids huh

u/P1zzaBagels 4d ago

The comments on her insta are all praising her. Absolutely ridiculous

u/wafflepiezz Main Character 4d ago

God I’m so tired of these fake NPC people on Instagram (and Reddit too).

Fake happiness, fake generosity, fake authenticity, fake supporting, etc.

It’s like those people who go ā€œyaaass queenā€ and then talk mad shit about the person behind their back.

"Generous loving heart ā¤ļø"

"Donating to not one- but two programs with two checks- proud! Never forget……… this is what matters! šŸ’•šŸ™šŸ¾"

I kind of want to anonymously donate $501... Anyone know the organization?

Update: I anonymously donated $251 to my local high school. My employer will also match $251.

u/jonz1985z 4d ago

Same. A bunch of people should do it and actually raise real money.

Help me figure out how to donate to the athletics program or the school?

https://www.fcboe.org/departments/athletics/department-overview

Or I'll give to my local school's program.

u/OUBoyWonder 3d ago

Let's do it Price Is Right style and I'll donate $502 just to beat you and get on the stage with Bob, lol.

u/metallosherp 4d ago

I spent $500 on lap dances one night back in 2014 and I was pretty poor. Kind of ridiculous in this day to see some shamfluencer doing the "giant check" bullshit for the same amount.

u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 4d ago

I donated $500 to a cat rescue, didn’t tell anybody until now, ate some pizza, read a book and went to sleep. There should be an internet challenge where you have to do something really nice anonymously and never tell anybody about it. That would break these charity posers minds. Bet they couldn’t do it.

u/Gucci_Loincloth 3d ago

I was about to say. Anyone even relatively BROKE could fucking donate $500 lmfao; this almost makes no sense.

Same story as yours, oddly enough for some reason the same year and everything. I think it was my 18-19th brithday and got swindled at the strip club lmfao

u/NoSyllabub1535 4d ago

How much do giant cheques cost? I feel like there should be $1000 minimum for giant cheques.

u/Far-Imagination2736 4d ago

Giant checks cost like $70-$120, custom costs more

u/Whelp_of_Hurin 4d ago

Do they have to buy a new giant check every time? Seems to me it would make more sense to buy one reusable one, then write in the name/amount with a dry erase marker as needed.

u/Supremeism 4d ago

I gave one my teachers $5 for lunch one time. I should’ve made a video…

u/LittleRedCorvette2 4d ago

That's really sweet....you should of gotten a trophy for sure!

→ More replies (1)

u/Cool-Inflation4159 4d ago

A one time donation of $500 should not be enough to buy you the opportunity to a speak into a microphone in front of these children. Do not waste everyone’s time so you can LARP as a princess.

If she had pledged a donation of $50 a month for only a year and some of her time without the cameras, she would’ve donated more overall and made more of a difference.

Nothing gets me heated more than faux charity. And if that check bounces I swear to GOD

u/AshingiiAshuaa 4d ago

What's the minimum for writing a giant check and not feeling like a douche? $10k?

The check itself has to cost 10%-20% or more of the donation.

u/EverydayPigeon 4d ago

yh, even 5k definitely not, 50k I guess you can have this fanfare if you have to but even then it's so self-aggrandising

u/joe1826 4d ago

I feel like 2k is bare minimum

u/squidgytree 4d ago

$500? Is there a zero missing?

u/Square_Barracuda_69 3d ago

$500 is such an insignificant amount with the theatrics that are behind this video. Absolutely braindead to be thinking this was a good idea

u/Powerful-Knee3150 3d ago

She’s the daughter of an NBA player and works for him at his charity. Her estimated net worth is $3.5 million, according to yahoo finance.

u/ac2334 4d ago

u/immasexaddict 4d ago

Pretty sure the basketball court surface didn't appreciate those stiletto heels.

u/VistaBox 4d ago

What do these people influence?

u/ExtremelyOp1nionated 2d ago

At my school each player on the basketball team individually raised 500. Overall I’ve raised 2000 for my team, 500 is nothing and we know she came from a good family that could afford better, regardless if she won the show

u/How_Bout_Dem_Apples_ 4d ago

This can't be real.

u/BillMillerBBQ 4d ago

lol that’s not even an AMG Mercedes

u/True_Crime_Kent 4d ago

u/SwaggedGod 4d ago

How much does the giant check cost

u/ChefAsstastic 3d ago

Cheap and pointless. $5,000 would make sense.

u/yougotyolks 3d ago

It's very respectable to donate. Donations DO help but acting like $500 is a life-changing amount of money is ridiculous.

u/Imnacho408 3d ago

This bitch.... either do 500 privately and dont show off, or for this type of thing, do like at least 100,000

u/NoOnSB277 3d ago

I mean it’s a lot of hoopla, but $500 is still $500; I am sure the kids are happy to have some funds for their team. Although I do think the giant check was in poor taste- the money it cost to make that could have been handed over to the team instead.

u/Lady_Mallard 3d ago

I’m not Jewish, but there is a Jewish concept that I love. If you do an act of charity, whether it’s donating money or a kind act, and then tell others about it, any moral goodness is eroded and it doesnt count in God’s eyes.
