Has anyone notice a notable positive change at Howard after MacKenzie Scott gave over $100 million to the institution?
B/c I'm thinking she could've used that money for something better. The same complaints I heard about Howard before she gave that generous gift are the same I'm hearing after.
But I'm keeping an open mind, I could be wrong. What substantial positive changes at Howard rather it be academic, campus aesthetic, or operations have you noticed that could be contributed to her donation. Over $100 million is not a little bit of money, it's transformative for an institution Howard size if applied strategically and honestly

Yeah I see everyone in the “A” building has nicer cars and Howard has a corporate jet account now

Why don't you all stop bashing and assuming and give to the universty. Become and active member of the community. I give monthly and ask questions. The money was to be used to expand medical training facilities and construction a d student support services. Stop the lip services and try to make a better university.

I wonder do the PWIs get the same question when they get 10xs or more what Howard gets from donors?Their schools look the same as well, no noticeable changes or upgrades.

Are the people who graduated from and attend PWIs who receive large amonts of money unhappy about their universities?
I guess it's because Howard students have publicly complained and have gone viral on social media mostly regarding money. So having such a large donation during the same time, I guess some people wonder where is it going and maybe it can help some of the students who need money.

Those families were notified and did NOT pay their tuition. 2700 accepted 2500 paid. Where Howard made a mistake is over the years not enforcing deadlines and having compassion. Also that same student who started this received a scholarship from Howard her outside scholarship did not come thru she was angry with the wrong place. Hiward is not free . Most of all, all of the complainers who did not pay on time if at a PWI would have said NOTHING. They also should have done their FASFA in October of their high school senior year. Their problem .

So you're holding Howard to low standards b/c you THINK PWIs have low standards too? Im trying to understand. Isn't Howard all about black excellence and being a trailblazer??

Howard University has to pay it's bills and faculty also. Howard is NOT a welfare state. Alumni dont give. The complainers did not read their emails rules are rules. Don't know why black people bash themselves but afraid to bash white institutions. Interesting.

Why would alumni give when the university has proven to be a bad steward with what they got? Basic things Howard failed at such as dorm and campus maintenance and beautification and they have the funds for them both. Howard is an expensive school for a reason! All that money didn't go to bills and faculty and you know it

The money was designated for medical education expansion ,construction, and student support services. Also why do you think alumni should not give. Alumni are part of the problem. Alumni participation affects many things . Black people need to learn about financial literacy. Also the use of Howard funds is public record. Stop blah blah blah and become involved and maje a change. I give monthly and designate my funds. Also get a statement for my tax purposes

Agree with you. I give to Howard monthly. Everyone should. Will say PWzI alumni give and this is why they receive more funding. Alumni giving affects outside giving. Bla k people need to stop bashing what has served them well.

The donation was to be used to exspa d medical training ,upgrade facilities and support student academic services. They are building new buildings and have renovated older dorms. Also Howard has alwzys admitted excellent students. Secondly alumni should give to the university I am one who does. In addition alumni who only go to homecoming but don't voice there concerns do not help. Alumni giving affects outside giving . Personally I believe in self preservation. HBCU graduates need to learn that. I will say Spelman and Morehouse have.

Accountability and propriety must be demanded, not expected. It will never come if you wait for it.

If good people in charge it dont need to be demanded but good people are not in charge

Just an FYI, while 100mm sounds like a lot of money for a University, Howards annual expenditures generally range between $1.1 billion and $1.3 billion. All of Howards financials are available publicly as it is non profit if anyone really wants to get to the information.

Donations are earmarked they could’ve give to financial aid which is a better investment because their graduation rate is highly impacted by people’s ability to pay.

In the last decade or so, Howard seems to attract and admitt a distinctly higher quality of student than it has for many, many years. I am sure this nothing to do with any donation though.
