I learned quite a lot from your comment. What mic do you recommend for recording. I have a friend who promised to do the mix and mastering if I sent a solid recording.

This is solid advice, thanks. It's for rap and I'd say my style is more in line with spoken word, kind of like Earl, MIKE, and rappers in that lane.(Not saying anything about being as good as them btw lol)

It's a very advanced form of compression, limiting, eq, and sometimes a few other things done to the final mix down (not the individual tracks) by someone who had nothing to do with the recording (fresh perspective) with really good ears on very high end speakers in a very well treated room. The process is to "finish off" the song by balancing the dynamics and managing the stereo spread to make it sound good for streaming/putting on a cd/radio/etc

Mastering does not fix a bad mix though
