General/Others /r/Hijabis Reminder of our Rules and WARNINGS! READ BEFORE POSTING

Upvotes

Salaam ladies,

Please read the entire post, we are receiving a lot of angry messages from people who do not take the 1 minute it takes to read certain messages. In addition to reading our rules on the sidebar, we are reiterating the following:

  1. A gentle reminder that this subreddit is for women only. This is our one and only safe space and no exceptions will be made. It has been this way for a few years now and it will not change. For men lurking, please do not message people on our subreddit. Please do not comment - it will be an automatic ban. Men can post, assuming it is appropriate and relevant to our subreddit, but will only have women commenting.
  2. Please use the flair thread found here to get a flair to identify your gender. We cannot detect your gender otherwise, and given our subreddit is for women only, we need to know your gender to approve your posts/comments. Anyone without a flair, even if your username is IAmAWoman or IAmFemale, will have comments removed.
  3. Marriage posts are not to be posted on r/hijabis. Anything related to marriage can go on r/MuslimMarriage. Exceptionally we allow marriage posts when we feel it is more appropriate for the user to post here, however all post approvals will be subject to moderation discretion.
  4. Majority of posts are automatically removed by automod due to our filters (account age, karma, etc.). Please do not message us about your post being removed - it will be approved when the moderators go through the queue, or removed if not appropriate/repeated topic.
  5. Report, report, report! Please report anything that breaks our rules - it does not get our attention otherwise. This includes disrespectful comments, comments without sources, drama stirring, etc.

On a separate note, we want to generally warn our users that there have been instances of men messaging women on our subreddit inappropriately. Please report and block these men, and message us their usernames with picture proof of the messages. We can ban them, but the ban doesn't stop them from accessing our subreddit. We highly advise all our members turn off their DM's:

User settings --> chat & messages --> Who can send you chat requests --> Nobody

Also, we are getting reports that some people flaired on our subreddit as Female are actually men pretending to be women. Please send us a message when you become aware of this. And for the men doing this as a way to bypass our subreddit rules, fear God.

Megathread: Report brands that dropship from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc. Stop promoting slave labour

Upvotes

Salaam alaikum sisters and Eid Mubarak.

This post is a necessary reminder and an important announcement, especially given all the recent "Eid fit" posts.

We have a zero-tolerance policy towards posts promoting brands like SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, or dropshipping companies that source from these same suppliers. These brands profit off:

  • Modern-day slavery of our Uyghur brothers and sisters
  • Environmental destruction
  • Mindless overconsumption, which Islam explicitly warns against

We are therefore asking you to use this megathread to:

  • Report any brands you've come across that are dropshipping from SHEIN, AliExpress, TEMU, etc.
  • Share brands that you know do not dropship, so we can uplift and support ethical alternatives. (We are exceptionally allowing brands to self-promote here if they are ethically sourced).

-----

Further If we believe someone is trying to bypass our filters by writing things like “SH_EIN” or “TE-MU” or "SHEEEIN", you will:

  • Be temporarily banned for 14 days
  • Permanently banned on second offence
  • Your post will also be flaired with "Promotes slave labour".

-----

A gentle reminder as to why we're doing this (with sources/proof):

Many of these companies rely on forced labour, particularly the exploitation of Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps in China. It is unconscionable for us, as Muslims, to wear and promote items made by our suffering brothers and sisters. Sources: Source 1, Source 2, Source 3

Fast fashion is one of the most polluting industries on earth. Overproduction, toxic dyes, microplastics, landfill waste, all of this directly harms the creation of Allah. Sources: Source 1, Source 2

Our deen teaches us moderation, humility, and responsibility. Fast fashion fuels greed, impulse-buying, and waste which are all against the values of Islam.

“Eat and drink, but waste not by excess. Indeed, He likes not the wasters.”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:31)

And finally: It’s okay to look simple and recycle between a few outfits, what isn't okay is looking cheap while also promoting exploitation. You don’t need 50 outfits or to keep up with online hauls. If money is tight, thrifting is a great halal option. If you can afford to, support ethically sourced brands, especially Muslim-owned ones that don’t rely on exploitation.

May Allah forgive us for any wrongdoing, and forgive us for anything we've said that was wrong or too harsh.

Fashion I’ve found a great hack for modest summer fits

I know this isn’t new. But I recently ordered a bunch of COTTON 100% plus size dresses like as big as they come. That were basically knee length, I wore them as a top. And cotton pants as well cotton 100% also as big as they come 4X. They r sooooooo comfy and soooo light for the summer. It’s the best thing I’ve done.

I got some black/ navy blue/ brown so I can switch it up.

Idk why I didn’t do this sooner I was getting so hot in jeans jacket and jeans pants
I’ll post some ex of what they look like

Help/Advice I can't stop comparing my life to those who do haram

Upvotes

I know this is wrong, but I can't help but feel this way. I want to do what other people are doing, but I can't because Islam stops me. I want to date, I want a boyfriend.
I want to listen to music. I want to go out wearing nice clothes, show my hair, and just feel free. Almost every day, I get annoyed that I can't do these things.
I see other people doing all of this on social media and in real life, and I can't help but feel jealous of them because, honestly, I want to do it too.

Help/Advice How can I learn to love the hijab and be convinced with it?

Upvotes

Please don't read if you're currently struggling with the hijab!

Assalamu alaikum girlies, I really need some advice :(

I've been wearing the hijab since I was 10 years old, now I'm 21 and I've been questioning a lot of things regarding the hijab. It makes me feel some kind of resentment. I ask myself why are we the only ones who have to endure something constant like this? I know men also have their obligations, like going to jumuah prayers once a week or having the duty to go to war to protect their family or community, but if we're honest probably 97% of men today won't ever have to go to war, these aren't constant things in every man's life where they have to feel discomfort the entire time on a daily basis. We have to wear the hijab every time we go outside or are in presence of a non mahram, and as long as we are outside we have to constantly wear it. Some women have to wear a hijab 24/7 because they are in constant presence of a non mahram. Why do we have to endure scorching hot summers while men can walk around in t-shirts and shorts? What also makes me angry is how scholars are so lenient with men, people argue that men also have an awrah and they have to grow a beard and stuff, but schools are so lenient to the point where some schools allow shaving the beard and don't even define a male's thigh as awrah, and they say all of this is debatable. What confuses me is why is hijab considered such a big deal in islam when the commandment wasn't even explicit? If the beard is debatable and a male's awrah is debatable, then why is something indirect like the hijab not debatable? We were only explicitly commanded to put on a khimar when we pray. In the quran it's only commanded to cover the bosom. I am really struggling to keep the hijab on knowing how unfair it is, it makes me resent the fact that I am a woman. I didn't even mention how much attention we turn to ourselves by wearing it and how we put ourselves in danger especially when we live in western countries. I love Allah swt and I know He wants what's best for us and I know we humans have limited knowledge, but I perceive the hijab as disproportionately difficult

Help/Advice Can I pray wearing pants?

Upvotes

For the past 2 years I’ve mainly worn skirts and dresses but I don’t really like wearing them. I’d like to start wearing loose very baggy clothes instead.

I’ve often heard that wearing pants isn't allowed because they're considered men's clothing, but I live in Europe where pants are unisex

I wanted to know if my prayer is still valid if I pray wearing a loose top that covers my butt along with loose pants or baggy sweatpants ?

General/Others It’s sad how common it is for elder sisters to be parentified

Upvotes

I wasted majority of my childhood / teen years being parentified meanwhile my brother of a similar age lived care free without any responsibilities. He lived his life to the fullest meanwhile all of my childhood teen years were robbed off me. this also happens to my cousins. I know this is so common. It also led me to not wanting kids of my owb. It drained me and I now have the need to live for my inner child and experience the stuff I never got to experience

has anyone else in this sub gone through this?

Help/Advice Hijab with an eating disorder

Upvotes

Salaam alaikum. I have been considering wearing the hijab for about a year now, but my biggest apprehension that is stopping me from committing is that I have been grappling with a serious eating disorder for about 4 years. I have been admitted to facilities for weeks, tried outpatient care, tried day programs, and nothing seems to be working.

I’m worried that I won’t know how wearing the hijab will affect my body dysmorphia. On one hand, I only wear baggy clothes and hide my body anyway, because I’m so ashamed of my appearance and do not want anyone to have a perception of what I look like. I think modesty may help with the shame I feel. On the other hand though, I fear that being a hijabi will further distort my image of myself, worsening my eating disorder.

It really could go either way on how my ED is affected, and I understand that my disorder is not an excuse for not fulfilling my obligation of wearing hijab, but it is nerve wracking to make such a big commitment when my eating disorder has already consumed so much of my life and peace.

If anyone has any experience or advice, I would really appreciate it. JazakAllah!

Help/Advice Mispronouncing the letter 'daad' ض

Upvotes

Salaam,

I think I've been mispronouncing 'daad' ض when reading Surah Al-Fatiha and the Quran in general.

I've just been crying because now i feel like I've been praying wrong this whole time. i watched some videos on how to pronounce it and I'm so confused. I've tried multiple times and i feel like i can't do it.

the way i was pronouncing it before was by using the tip of my tongue on my upper gums, not my teeth. but the videos are all saying i should be using the sides of my tongue and not the tip at all. I have no idea how to do that. and now i feel so down because how am I gonna pray if i can't even pronounce Surah Al-Fatiha correctly?

any advice is appreciated

Help/Advice What if young muslims got into halal relationships that are like western dating for the begining when they dont have cash yet

Upvotes

Im talking two like each other so the guy asks the father for his daughter and fulfils the islamic conditions for a halal relationship,

So now theyre both let's say in uni or even highshcoolers, they each live under their parents roofs and build themselves by studying or looking for work ect ect,

And theyre halal for each other

, like they dont get kids yet, that's not necessary imediatly ,

They wont have to wait many many years for financial stability that's getting harder to achieve

Theyll enjoy a halal relationship,

That would avoid them even thinking about haram

I read an old post bringing a point about how boys wont put the effort to get stable if they can get that easily,

I would like to argue that this is kinda assuming that young guys wont take care of their wives, but why assuming that ?

Responsability ain't defined by age,

In fact theres old guys who dont take care of their wives well, denying em their rights, even tho they got with em financialy ready after they worked hard to be ready to get their wives, yet theyre not responsible afterwards

They might give mahr at the start, as a proof,

Do you guys have anything to add to this, or argue against the points

I would like to know if you're pro or against

( I unded up thinking about this After getting proposals from guys 10 years older than me, and honestly i want a guy my age but you see theyre not ready yet ig, so after wondering in my mind i unded up thinking about this scenario, )

And now im curious, is it actually doable ?

Is it actually good girls ?

Hijab rant-is it only me that hates the chiffon hijabs?

Upvotes

so i own 2 chiffon hijabs which i have tried wearing but i would always regret after. they slip off no matter what i do, they are transparent, the undercap won’t hold them in place, not even that damn magnet thing i put under my chin—it’s also slipping😭, also i cannot wear them without having that weird V-ish shape at the top of my head, like genuinely how do people enjoy wearing them, everytime i’ve worn them they were driving me out of my mind. it’s said that they are better for warmer weather but haven’t noticed much of a difference tbh.
jersey didn’t do me wrong in any season, and they aren’t such a hassle. just a little pin there and voila, it’s in place and you don’t have ti worry about the scarf falling off your head.

Fashion Modest clothing resale?

Upvotes

Asalaam walaikum. What is the best place to sell second-hand modest clothing and hijabs? I am USA based. I’ve posted on Mercari, Poshmark, and Depop. I have found I get the most interest on Depop, but the price for items have to be lower on Depop before I make a sale compared to other sites. Also, any advice on selling?

I was getting such little interest or offers, that last time I ended up donating the remaining clothing to an Islamic school’s donation closet, and much of the clothing was new with tags.

Help/Advice How do I deal with this?

Upvotes

Asslamu Aliakum.
Hope y'all are having a great day.
For context, I wear the hijab, and because of school, I have been discouraged a lot.
I have been wearing the hijab for almost like 4 to 5 years, but ever since I shifted to a Gulf country, I have wanted to remove it.
I started wearing hijab at a young age, and because of that, I did not have any friends, all because I was 'religious' or 'boring.' While shifting here, I did not expect I would be hated for doing something that is so common here. I thought I would be able to make friends easily, but no school made my life worse.
To explain what happened, basically, certain people in my school laugh at me for nothing. And as a very sensitive person, it breaks my heart. Today, I was talking to my friend, and those people tried to pull her away from me.
AND I WAS JUST TALKING TO HER!!
Also, I started talking to a newcomer in our class, and ever since she started talking to those people, she has been ignoring me, which is unusual.
The point is.... I am being bullied for my hijab, and I have been bullied for the past 4 years. I was just crying today because it seems like no people my age want to interact with me just because I am 'religious.'
And the fact that I am not confident and very sensitive makes this worse...
I wish I had never put on the hijab, and I feel guilty for saying this...

Fashion Hijab suggestions for this wedding outfit

Post image
Upvotes

(Picture taken from the website)
Hello! I’ll be wearing this for a wedding function. Although the event will be segregated, I’m still planning to wear a hijab with it. I’ll be receiving the fully stitched dress around the time of the wedding, and I’ll also have exams around then, so now is pretty much the only time I have to go shopping for a hijab that would complement the outfit.
What colour and material do y’all think would look best with this? And if anyone has any hijab styles that they think would suit the outfit, please do suggest them!

Help/Advice Vent: I Miss Being Close to Allah

Upvotes

Vent: I Miss Being Close to Allah

**Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh girlies** 🥹 I hope you’re all doing well.
I’ve been wanting to talk about something I’ve been struggling with lately, and I’d really appreciate advice from sisters who have gone through something similar.
So basically, some background about me: I’m Somali, born in the US, and I’m the eldest child in a Somali household. When I was almost 10, I moved to Kenya to learn more about Islam — Qur’an, Hadith, fiqh, etc. Alhamdulillah, I completed the Qur’an within a year of being there, memorized it, and was actually a really good student when it came to Islamic studies. I was super close to the deen back then.
Then around 12–13, I started listening to music and slowly started drifting away from the Qur’an and Islamic studies. Around the same time, I started middle school in Kenya and got bullied, and that really messed with my mental health. I was dealing with depression, anxiety, and a lot of stress, and eventually I started slacking on my salah too.
Fast forward to 2020 and COVID lockdown. My mental health had actually gotten better for a few months after starting high school, but then lockdown happened and… yeah 😭 things got bad again.
I stopped praying, became really attached to my phone, and started watching and reading BL ( gay love/ lgbtq)I also felt really detached from myself and just generally lost. I would have regrets about some of the things I was doing, but I felt stuck in this cycle.
My social anxiety also got really bad during lockdown, and I developed a fear of heights. Alhamdulillah, my family didn’t really notice how badly I was struggling at first. I think being the eldest daughter in a Somali household also made me feel like I had to just keep everything together and not make a big deal out of things.
Eventually my mom noticed that things were getting worse and suggested that my siblings and I move to Egypt. So we did, and I enrolled in Al-Azhar and started studying Islam again. I also started revising the Qur’an because unfortunately I had forgotten most of what I had memorized 😭. Alhamdulillah, I could still read it from the mushaf though.
Moving to Egypt definitely helped my mental health, and being around Islamic studies again helped too. But I still continued watching and reading BL ( gay love/ lgbtq).
Lately, though, I’ve been feeling really restless and emotional. I don’t even know how to explain it properly. I feel like I REALLY want to cry, but for some reason I literally can’t.
And honestly… I just really want to come back to Allah.
I want to repent sincerely and become a better, more devoted Muslim. I genuinely love Islam and I WANT to learn more about my deen. I want to memorize the Qur’an again, become consistent with my salah, and actually have a real connection with Allah SWT.
I’m also going for Umrah in about a month and a half 🥹 and I really want to take advantage of it. I don’t want to go, have this amazing spiritual experience, and then come home and slowly fall back into my old habits. I want this to actually be a turning point for me, inshaAllah.
One of the biggest things I want to stop is reading/watching BL ( gay love/ lgbtq). I know it’s haram, but honestly, it’s HARD because I genuinely enjoy it and I’ve gotten attached to it. I know I need to let it go, but I’m struggling with how.
I also really want to get over my phone addiction. I feel like my attention span has been destroyed 😭. I want to spend less time mindlessly scrolling, read more, exercise my brain, and basically get myself out of this constant dopamine/phone cycle.
I know I’ve made a lot of mistakes and I’ve drifted REALLY far from where I used to be. Sometimes I think about the little girl I was who had memorized the Qur’an and was so excited about Islam, and I genuinely miss her.
But I also know I can’t just sit here wishing I was that person again. I want to become someone who is close to Allah now — not just because I’m scared of punishment or because I feel guilty, but because I genuinely love Him and WANT to be close to Him.
So for the sisters who have gone through a period where you were really distant from Allah and eventually found your way back:
**What actually helped you?**
How did you rebuild your salah? How did you get back into the Qur’an? How did you strengthen your relationship with Allah? And how did you break habits that you knew were wrong but were genuinely attached to?
Also, if any of you have advice for preparing spiritually for Umrah and making sure the changes actually stick afterward, I’d REALLY appreciate it.
Jazakillahu khayran for reading all of this 😭🫶🏽 May Allah guide us, forgive us, strengthen our iman, and bring all of us closer to Him. Ameen. 🤍
