This series has sucked since Kratos got old. All of the basic enemies take 10-15 hits to kill, Atreus is an awful son and Kratos is a shit father, somehow the mom is just as strong as him in her new game which wipes out the point of the last one. The og creator was right. Batista is a weird femme man who wears women's clothes and too much jewelry. He lied, as all actors do, about wanting more diverse roles because he wants to be better than the Rock, which shouldn't be hard. He's the perfect casting for this broken shell of a man, not an ounce of masculinity under those muscles

This is crazy, the first time I heard his voice, I thought it sounded like Nolan Sr from Invincible, then I looked up and turns out, Troy motherfucking Baker himself is behind them.

Ive played and beat the game multiple time but decided to use the guide this time just to see if ive missed shit, for the extra info, and just because i want to. I noticed the back pages of the book coming unglued. I dont mistreat it or anything. I have some book marks in it but thats about it. It bummed me out big time. Id like to try and fix it before it gets worse.

I looked up where each location is and went to get all of them but it still says I’m missing one. Can anyone help this my first time playing??!

Quick question for anyone who decided to put themselves through this torture, how? I've been stuck here for almost 2 hours, watching every video, looking at every reddit post, trying every method, to no avail. Doesn't help that my only way to play gow1 is through Sony's shitty cloud play so I have to deal with slight input lag. It feels like anytime I get close to the top the Satur's decide that I no longer have permission to attack and completely stun lock me off the platform.

I just needed to rant a little. This sucks soo much man, and I wish nothing but the worse for the one who made this.

These bosses can be a real pain, but overall I'm surprised they have a more varied arsenal than the Valkyries. Like the Berserker Duo and the Berserker Trio, their designs are fantastic; they're strange, not intimidating, I'd say mysterious.

Although I always wonder why they have godlike strength? It seems ironic that they're the complete opposite of the Valkyries. They aren't honorable warriors or kind-hearted protectors of the dead,

they're despicable monsters with a great thirst for power, destroying everything they touch.

Basically, the entire Lake of Nine is at 100%, but the Light Elf Outpost still appears under the fog, even though I've already completed everything there. I don't know if it's a glitch, but it's preventing me from getting the trophy.

Can anybody help me to solve this issue?

How do you think things would've gone if one of them survived Kratos' onslaught?

With the announcement of the PS3 store eventually closing I decided to get the Greek God of War games and play through them. I did a similar series of reviews for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters so I figure why not do the same for the current games I'm marathoning through. For the record I have practically no experience with these games, I do remember playing Chains on my friend's PSP back in the day (Mime of War best costume) but nothing outside of that. And for the record I decided to do these games in chronological lore order.

So Ascension. People said it was the worst, and I agree it has problems, but I will say it's not the worst. First the good; the game looks gorgeous. It looks beautiful; the environment, the models, the characters (I don't care if Megaera has only one arm and is part-bug, still would), it looks great. I haven't played 3 but it always looked like it had this shiny sheen to it and I think Ascension looks better.

I think the story is good too. It has issues, parts feel like their missing or disorganized, but you can feel the attempt. It's nice to have a God of War story that isn't constant God-drama and has some mystery to it and good character development & interaction between Kratos and Orkos.

I also think the puzzles are good. Of the three GoW games I've played so far Ascension's puzzles were the best. Using your items, sometimes using both together, to solve these problems are fun and actually require thought. It's nice to actually encounter puzzles that aren't just a timed switch.

As for the bad, it's the camera and combat. The camera SUCKS. My God the amount of times I've had someone attack me from off-screen and could not react is numerous. Or the amount of times the camera zoomed out and I couldn't react to the pixels on my screen! I know it's trying to be cinematic but I need to see the gameplay to play the game! (for the record this is a problem that I've so far encountered in all GoW games I've played so this is not just an Ascension problem)

And the combat is problematic, but I would say for different problems. Everyone's said the rage meter locks-out most of your combo moves, which I agree does suck, but my problem is those moves aren't worth it. Playing this I felt I had to be able to react to enemies moves and attacks because they can and will tank your hits and counter you and you have to react. Because of this I found most combos useless, it's better to just spam lights or light-light-heavy cause everything else isn't block cancellable.

The rage meter also locks you otu of some magical attacks but most are useless too. The lightning one is the only one worth it cause it hits more than once and stuns enemies. Yeah it costs you combos but I never used those anyway outside on one-on-one fights, and those were mostly bosses anyway. And the lightning magic is the only one worth it. It's crowd control and abaility to stun makes it the only one worth it. Ice is to give you more red orbs if you can freeze but even with the big magic I could never kill any frozen enemies, and soul is supposed to give you more health but I could never trigger that either. Lightning is the only one that seems to work.

And this monotonousness isn't helped by how annoying and tanky enemies can be. Not all are bad, but it's WAY too easy to get bullied and swarmed by everyone. I am convinced you can be infinity juggled to death in the right circumstances. There's a couple encounters where I found it's better to die and try again cause when you respawn it resets the fight and some enemies won't have summoned their allies at the start then.

The worst, the absolute worst enemy are those annoying flying fire-breathing dragon things. Oh my God why are they so tanky, why don't they flinch, why are they allowed to spam their projectiles, why? I feel like I'm playing a NetherRealm game and fighting against a zoner! They're annoying little anklebiting jobbers they should be easy to kill!

Bosses are a mixed bag too. The first boss is good until the camera zooms out way too much and I can't see anything. The oracle dudes was annoying because I swear the fight just didn't work at times. I swear the rock they want you to throw at him just glitches out half the time.The two furies are alright until the QTE. It's the only time I recall doing circles with the stick but the icon they use is a straight arrow. How am I supposed to know to rotate the stick when you give me a straight arrow?! And the final boss was easy, easiest one in the game IMO.

The only other thing worth mentioning is the world weapons and honestly I rarely used them. Only the long-range weapons like spear or sling are noticeable but those are always given in scripted moments and the shield because it can block attacks, but good luck getting one cause the QTE to get one can be interrupted, and if you can't get the shield good luck being able to kill them!

And yet, despite the ranting, of the three GoW games I've beaten so far, if I had to pick one to replay, I'd pick Ascension. It's got problems, a few parts I got annoyed at and died, but I was able to win the next chance usually. As bad as it could be at times, it was never frustrating to the point I felt the need to quit. It's probably the only one I'll 100% as the trophies don't require beating the hardest difficulty or bonus challenges.

RATING: 7/10 - it's got problems but wasn't frustrating to play through

So let me give context for the question above. A few days ago I was replaying gow 2018 for the first time in years. Now for the record i did play and beat it years ago on my ps4.

But towards the end of june I noticed Ragnarok was on discount and I decided why not and picked it up.

Definitely don’t regret that decision. But after beating it I got, I want to say nostalgic for 2018. Especially since, while I had seen the og gow games on youtube I had never played them myself and 2018 was my first gow game and I loved it then ane I still love it now.

However here’s the thing, while I did remember the major story parts, the bosses, side quests (dear god it’s impossible to forget the times I wanted to break my controller in half at the valkyries). Some of the in between parts in the game had slipped from my mind.

So allow me to paint the picture. I’m playing 2018, I kill magni, I get to the temple where modi attacks us and atreus passes out and kratos takes him to freya and retrieves the blades of chaos. After I get the heart and go see Atreus.

My guys it’s like a flashbang went off in my room, because when I got the part where Kratos goes “I’m a god boy” I remember that I’m at the part where Atreus starts to act like a little shit.

When I remembered this I immediately turned the game off and I haven’t played it since. Because let me tell you about my relationship with atreus. Overall I like him.

In 2018 he’s just lost his mom and he has to learn to get along with the dad who’s never really been there for him. So in the early parts of the game I understood why atreus was so … I guess the only way I can think to phrase it is “understandbly annoying”.

In Ragnarok he’s older and closer to his dad and the moments where you see him rebel against Kratos are moments that (knowing the context due to playing as him) are understandable.

But at this point in 2018… listening to his voice as he starts acting like a spoiled little turd makes my head hurt.

In fact I remember the very first time I ever played 2018 all the way through, I delayed it as much as possible because I didn’t want to deal with atreus’s attitude.

So back to my original question. Is it just me who can’t stand Atreus as a little shit in 2018?

I recently purchased the Blades of Chaos for my partner and wish to display it on the wall. Has anyone else done this? I'm trying figure out the best way to do it

Like, is this a reference to something about Ares' source counterpart? Or is this a purely creative choice that the designers chose for the character?

The Hippocampi had simmilar legs, but it makes slightly more sense for them since they're a mythical sea beings.

Megaera also has them, and it fits her "Fury Of The Body" title. She summons little insects and other creatures that break down the body like parasites.

And don't get me wrong: I love the same design choice for Ares. He looks great with them, and they give him more character. But I can't seem to draw any connections with a theme, like I did with the other two cases.

I know gods can assume animal-like features. But why arthropods'? Because it simply intimidates? Because those legs are effective in combat? Or is it merely Ares' whim?

I do like it either way though.

I guess I just wanted to discuss this. Maybe there is something I don't know.

God of war 1 2 and 3 are all about how this savage, violent, unrepentantly vindictive demigod with a history of incredible violence is trying to escape the visions of madness that torment him, only to be used and disenfranchised by the greek pantheon, which he then single handedly kills in a fit of terrible rage, but before he dies he gives what's left of the smoldering, flood, tornado and spirit-scoured crater that is greece the gift of hope before leaving for new lands.

Enter the norse mythology, his backstory is that he met laufey, had a kid and then she died, so he takes his son on a long pilgrimage to bury her ashes in joutunheim. in the beginning of the game we see that kratos made his son a bunch of toys and later he even loans atreus his axe as he tries to enter the light of alfheim. though unintentional, he also gave the light elves the gift of liberation from the dark elves. Years after this he would go on to participate in ragnarok against his will, drawn into the conflict by his son's pursuit of tyr, the ancient god of war. kratos is credited by the midgard people as the source of fimbulwinter as he killed baldur, they outright call him "the winter man" so he is already regarded as god associated with winter. throughout his journey he helps people with many problems and even gives the long-warring elf tribes a real chance at peace. he kills dragons and cleanses a valley, letting it grow and develop into a verdant paradise. he has now begun working tirelessly to make the world a better place, a place where peace can reign and evil gods such as odin can't rule the weak with an iron fist. but he even goes so far as to try to save his chief rival in this conflict, thor, and manages to convince him to stand down before odin kills him for his defiance. One of the sidequests of ragnarok specifically involves him guiding primordial deer back to the world tree that they might continue their work maintaining its boughs to avoid the tree ever buckling.

for his role in ragnarok the valkyries and freya want to make him the new god of war of the norse pantheon, but kratos understandably has misgivings so he, under tyr's tutelage, chooses to confront his dark and wrathful past, not to forgive it, but to understand the roots of his violence so that he might better change and avoid making such mistakes in the future. by the end of it he finally comes to terms with himself and chooses to become the norse pantheon's new god of war, to ensure peace and civility can reign supreme.

What we're experiencing across the entire franchise is a massive multi-game leadup to kratos one day adopting the mantle of a peaceful god who makes gifts for children and brings happiness and prosperity every winter, normally a time of death, that he might make the world a better place. it's why he's growing the beard and why they have him wielding a winter-themed axe. Soon kratos's next mainline game will feature him collecting godlike reindeer and teaming up with a seemingly evil god called krampus to save the world from cthulhu, afterwards in order to keep the eldritch monster at bay kratos and krampus will create a holiday, kratos will reward good children and encourage good behavior, and krampus will punish the bad ones that they change their evil ways so that cthulhu can't use their evil to infect the world with his power. in this way kratos will become santa claus. we're just seeing the entire origin leading up to a big christmas payoff. but this also means that someone at santa monica needs to be brave enough to create the game where kratos gets into a fistfight with jesus as the direct lead-in to "god of christmas" the final game in the god of war franchise!!
