One of my favourite Godzilla films as a kid, I hope we see more of Jet Jaguar and Megalon in the future

The first Godzilla movie I ever saw on the big screen waaaay back in 1976. It’s one of my all time favorite Showa Godzilla films. I don’t care what anyone else thinks about the movie, to me it’s the seed of my Godzilla Fandom and it holds a nostalgic place in my heart.

Also, Jet Jaguar SHOULD have gotten his own series on TV ala Ultraman.

Totally silly at times and absolutely wonderful. Not quite my favorite for Showa but way up there.

Megalon is such a cool kaiju. I feel like he wasnt utilized very well. Still, I love this goofy ass movie.

The first Godzilla movie I had reliable, regular access to (when Mom bought us the VHS when my brother and I were 10). I have watched it countless times. MANY of the other movies in the franchise are better written. Many are better shot. Plenty have more threatening, or more articulated, or simply more monstrous Godzilla/kaiju designs. There's music in other movies that I prefer to the music here.

But this is just about the MOST Godzilla action you can get onscreen in a single movie. You get EVERY permutation of possible fights between four monsters, with one-on-one, two-on-one, and two-on-two. NONE of it is interrupted with some human-focused sideplot that is arbitrarily supposed to count towards the end stakes. The fights themselves are...well, if you like Showa/Ultraman/tongue-in-cheek monster fights, these are about as peak as you can ask for. Closed punches, judo throws, (stock footage) bleeding, beam attacks, real fire, actual pro wrestling, fist bumps, and handshakes abound. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the stuff of legend; the flying drop kick, bro.

I'll bet you'll have a point in your life where this stuff won't do it for you. Maybe you'll find it insufferable and silly. I sure did. But, I'll also bet that you can find the part of yourself that can enjoy it. I had it, then lost it, and luckily for me rediscovered it. I encourage you to try, and if it doesn't work, try again in a year or so. Learn to approach it where it lives and accept what it gives instead of demanding it meet you where you are and bring you what you demand.

It's not the best overall, but it's one of my all-time favorites. But I'm biased and old.
