Discussion Thoughts on Ryan Valle’s take on drawing Cal Kestis?

He looks fairly accurate, but the face looks kinda weird. I can’t quite put my finger on it; might just be the “uncanny valley”.

I think I has to with the concept of converting an animated character to look more “live action”. I get less uncanny feelings when Ryan Valle does movie characters

I just feel it’s a bit strange because Cal is only technically animated. He looks rather realistic in-game, and it can be hard at times (especially if you have higher graphics settings) to tell that it isn’t a movie visually. Which just makes it weird to me that it isn’t the same as a movie character. Also, isn’t Cal physically just Cameron Monaghan?

Thinking about it more I think it may have to do with how even though the game captures Monaghan they still tweak it a little to make Cal look like a teenager because Cal in fallen order is 18. Meanwhile Cameron Monaghan was 24 when they made fallen order. The artist seemed to be trying to capture Cameron Monaghan as an adult when Cal was supposed to be a teenager. This is a picture of Cameron when he was 18

He’s looks closer in look here to the flashback as him as a padawan, when he was 14 years old in game.

By cal is literally motion captured and based off of a real actor. There’s nothing to convert
