the game has an achievement for not playing for 10 years
•
u/prest0x 2d ago
Just checked, and I last played in Feb 2016. Time to get the achievement :)
•
u/West_Elephant_873 2d ago
That's the original game, wich had an anchievment for 5 years. The 10 years one is the ultra deluxe version wich was released later
•
u/NovaSeras 2d ago
Yep... I have to wait till Halloween 2032
•
u/PhastasFlames 1d ago
Just change the time on your computer?
•
•
u/ViennaKing 1d ago
Does this actually work?
•
u/NovaSeras 1d ago
It does but ruins the spirit of the game
•
u/wgzwtadtute 22h ago edited 22h ago
Are you absolutely certain that it goes against the spirit of the game though?
•
u/Acrobatic_Poem_7290 22h ago
It absolutely does, why do something the easy way when you could do it the long way
•
u/DrCashew 12h ago
For most games I'd agree. Specifically for Stanley Parable? Disagree. It's a game about loopholes, esoteric thinking and consequences.

u/mirrorbirdjesus 21h ago
You’re right but the irony but the spirit of the game is not playing in this case haha
→ More replies (0)•
u/IVShadowed 9h ago
I understand your point, but doing nothing for ten years is about as easy as it gets. It's just not convenient.
•
u/NovaSeras 1d ago
No, because that goes against the spirit of the game.
•
u/TheChunkenMaster 1d ago
Going against the spirit of the game us pretty much all you do in the game though
•
u/wgzwtadtute 22h ago edited 22h ago
Are you entirely sure that it go against the spirit of the game?
•
u/Sad_Worker7143 18h ago
Stanley waited patiently ten years in his hole, not moving a muscle, like a good boy he is.
•
u/TheChunkenMaster 1d ago
I just changed the date on my ps5 and got the trophy
•
u/NovaSeras 1d ago
Congrats, you spoiled the spirit of the game.
•
u/Unlikely_Plane_5050 1d ago
Wooo, I'm the spirit of the game. Just hovered in to say this is all good with meeeee
•
•
u/ResponsibilityWeak87 21h ago
But nothing can spoil the spirit of
The game
Because you just lost it•

•
u/Illustrious_Donkey61 2d ago
I just got the 5 year one. You can uninstall and reinstall the game and it will still count
•
u/clandevort 1d ago
Really? I had it installed on my hardrive for 5 years just in case
•
u/Illustrious_Donkey61 1d ago
It does kinda sound like I'm trying to trick people so they have to wait another 5 years when I read my own post
•
u/Squonk_Idonk1273 1d ago
This is the perfect response to get people’s guard down…
•
u/Illustrious_Donkey61 1d ago
Stanley pressed the button labeled Uninstall, because he knew... nothing bad would happen
•
•
•
u/ApocalyptoSoldier2 4h ago
That's good news. I just checked and the last time I played was 11 December 2018 and don't wanna wait 2 and a bit more years
•
•
u/johnnyhotwh33ls 2d ago
Give it to the end of the year just to be safe lol
•
u/Chrono-Helix 2d ago
Yeah, they might have mixed up the time thanks to… time zones and daylight saving time and leap years and all that
•
•
u/klaxz1 2d ago
Last played June 2014
•
u/TurboFool 2d ago
Same. Just hopped in and got mine, although it's for the original, which was just 5 years. I have 6 years to go on the Ultra Deluxe which has the 10-year achievement.
•
u/Waxygibbon 2d ago
Me too, 2013

Does this work on the hardwares timer? Whats stopping you from moving the date forward on your console?
•
u/Lonely_Gate_9421 2d ago
Pretty sure that's how most people get that achievement
•
u/Ratattack1204 2d ago
How most COWARDS got it!
•
u/Resident_Course_3342 2d ago
Cheating the system is it's own reward.
•
u/The_Asshole_Judge 2d ago
Dont forget get the award you got because you cheated. Two awards for one!
•
u/Ultrakill98 1d ago
Stanley would approve
•
u/Quick_Trick3405 1d ago
How do you know anything about the guy? He's the least knowable character in all of video games. I say before realizing you're literally told what he would do, while also realizing that the narrator himself might not know Stanley that well.
•
•
u/lemming1607 2d ago
Isnt it for 5 years?
•
•
•
u/Spunk_Reynolds 2d ago
If there is a meme saying 10 years and another person confirming 10 years it’s probably not 5 years
→ More replies (34)•
u/Henry-Messenger 2d ago
Do you think it would work if you just set your platform/system clock 10 years ahead and disconnected from the internet before playing again?
•
u/EmilySuxAtUsernames 2d ago
it does work but where is the fun in that?
•
u/25_Unknown_Devices 2d ago
Getting achievements are supposed to be challenging, not fun. Opening the settings and stuff. Idk. I couldn’t figure it out. I’d say more but my case of Elmer’s glue just showed up and it’s chow time baby
•
u/Therobbu 1d ago
I don't think you can get the impossible achievement by conventional means
•
•
u/nr1988 2d ago
I remember when that game came out and everyone laughed about the achievement. I played the game for a little bit the first time and then stopped. I wasn't thinking about the achievement at all.
Then a couple years ago I decided to go try to play the game again and was shocked to learn it had been 10 years. Never has an achievement made me feel so old lol
•
u/AssassinGlasgow 2d ago
I just checked my library and it’s been 13 years since I last played…it’s time for me to get this achievement and to reckon with the harsh reality of time… 🥲

There’s an achievement in the Stanley Parable to play the game after not playing for ten years.
This guy was a day early, and reset the count for another ten years.
•
•
u/TequilaTits420 2d ago
•
u/Eddiemate 2d ago
In the original release it's five years, but the updated Ultra Deluxe version has it at ten years.

u/LPedraz 2d ago
TLDR: An achievement asks you to not play the game for 10 years.
----------
Stanley Parable is a game that tries to playfully talk about what is a videogame, what is interactivity and how the videogame language works. The game is about apparently mundane decisions, but you continuously have a narrator telling what you will do, before you do it. Then you have to decide whether you comply or not.
Because the game is trying to continuously make you aware of videogame logic and conventions, part of it is being very peculiar with the achievements, which are often fourth wall breaking and peculiar. Some of them are clearly meant for you to realize that you are lowering yourself to do something pointless or stupid because an achievement told you so.
Among those achievements, one asks you to not play the game for 10 years. The intended way of getting that achievement, if you for some reason want to, is to change your system clock to 10 years in the future and then log back into the game, but you can actually wait 10 years. It you wanted to do so, it would be really annoying to discover that you got in wrong for 1 day and now have to wait 10 more years.
•
u/InfinitlyStoned 2d ago
My 10 years will be in October. Waiting patiently.
•
•
u/dolphin_cape_rave 2d ago
you're in luck, you could have gotten the achievement almost five years ago, only the ultra deluxe version which released 2022 has the ten years, original is five.
•
u/MetalMothi 1d ago
You know you can just change your computer's clock to ten years in the future to get this achievement, right?
•
•
u/Dense-Performance-14 2d ago
There's an achievement in the Stanley parable where you must log back into the game after 10 full years of absence
•
u/Vyansbane 2d ago
In the game there's an achievement for not playing it for 10 years. If he waited that long but didn't wait the full 10, it would restart at day 1.
Edit- uhhh this is like ... an extra from the show
•
•
u/bschlueter 2d ago
You can just go offline, set your clock forward a decade, start the game, collect the achievement. Then shut down the game, set your clock back to auto and go online again.
•
u/EkobasherX4Z 2d ago
Cheater cheater, penis eater
•
u/bschlueter 2d ago
Hey man, I did the shorter one for real. But it still hasn’t been 10 years since the new version came out and the number of people with the achievement was not zero. I had to do it.
•
u/DagamarVanderk 2d ago
YO I just check and my last played date was December of 2015! Time to go get that achievement haha
Also do another playthrough
•
•
u/LionelMessi10CR 1d ago
There’s an achievement in the Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe called Super Go Outside. It’s given for not opening the game for 10 years
•
•
u/i_like_siren_head 2d ago
Yall ultra deluxe was the 10 year one and isn’t possible yet, the original Stanley Parable was just 5 years.
•
•
u/AkumaLilly 2d ago
Stanley Parable is one of those games that messes with you all the time. Makes you backtrack a lot, there are achivement that make you dumb things like carrying a bucket the whole game through every single ending.
One of the achivement is not playing the game for 10 years. This is constant and not cumulative. So playing the game at 9 years 11 months or 364 days means you lost the whole progress and now you have to wait another 10 years.
•
u/Scrw_loose 2d ago
•
u/Enochian_Devil 1d ago
That game's achivement was only 5 years, you can get it now.
The 10 year achivement is from Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, which is a remake with a lot more Content™
•
•
u/friskfyr32 2d ago
What I don't understand, is that I got 52 minutes of play time on steam, and I've got the achievement for completing the game, but I don't got the achievement for completing the game in under 4 hours 22 minutes.
•
u/Bear-With-Wifi 2d ago
The speedrun achievement is 4minutes 22seconds, not hours and minutes. (If talking about the original game, no clue about deluxe version)
•
•
u/1GoodIdeeaOutOf100 2d ago
Some award for staying offline for long periods, complete pointless reaction, if your life revolves around that award for that many years you lost THE GAME.
•
u/breathingrequirement 2d ago
You bastard, I had a streak of several years
•
u/AG37-Therianthropist 2d ago
The best way to never lose the game is to never play it. That's howcome I'm winning. And why others keep losing. Sorry that you lost again. After reading this new comment.
•
u/Level_Mousse_9242 2d ago
That's not... wait. Does this work?
•
u/Tricky-Act-31415 2d ago edited 2d ago
- Everyone in the world is playing The Game. A person cannot refuse to play The Game; it does not require consent to play and one can never stop playing.
- Whenever one thinks about The Game, one loses.
- Losses must be announced. This can be verbally, with a phrase such as "I just lost The Game", or in any other way.
The only way to
winnot lose The Game is to live in isolation for the rest of your life and forgetting about the existence of The Game, or just be one of the few lucky people who never gets informed/bothered about it...I just lost The Game... again... and so did you all :)
edit:
Don't feel bad, Roko's Basilisk is coming for us all, so losing The Game isn't a big deal :)•
u/AG37-Therianthropist 2d ago
Ah, but see, the definition of "play" as could make sense in the context of a game is "to engage or take part in a game," or if you prefer, "to take part in or assent to some activity : cooperate" (Merriam Webster, accessed today, definitions 2a and 2e).
But I am not assenting to or engaging in the game, except inasmuch as an observer, who obviously is not engaging in a game the way that these definitions suggest.
Ergo, I'm not playing the game, which you have once again lost, unfortunately.
•
u/Tricky-Act-31415 2d ago
True, but any definition of 'Everyone' would still include you.
Your desire not to play has no effect on the outcome, you are playing regardless of your intent not to ;)Everyone in the world is playing The Game. A person cannot refuse to play The Game; it does not require consent to play and one can never stop playing.
edit:
forgot to add, I just lost The Game... :)
•
u/ookacha23 2d ago
He's overjoyed he waited so long to get a very difficult game achievement that only needed 5 years.
If it was the Ultra Deluxe version he would be a day early.
•
u/ContributionLivid296 2d ago
Most people are correctly saying this is about the Stanley Parable, though the original game had an achievement for 5 years. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, released in 2022, has the 10 year achievement, meaning it’s theoretically not possible to earn until 2032 without changing your computer’s time (I’m just past the one year mark, and am committed to the bit).
•
u/NameLips 2d ago
I'm also committed to the bit, I don't know if I need to keep it installed during the 10 years but I figured it was too risky to uninstall it.
•
u/SidorioExile 2d ago
Come back to this post in 10 years and I'll tell you.
If you come back early I'll reset the timer.
•
u/EarthTrash 2d ago
Something I've wondered but haven't tried is if you could cheese this by setting the system clock.

u/Expert-Relationship3 1d ago
i got the 10 years one on launch, just change your computer time and year...
•
u/waddle-hop 2d ago
wait but how would you even miscalculate that? steam tells you the exact day you
last played a game, you just add 10 years?
•
u/Surraucus 2d ago
He's safe yall the achievements 5 years
•
u/NomadFH 2d ago
I assumed the new version of the game had a 10 year achievement
•
u/Surraucus 2d ago
Did alittle digging, the deluxe edition has the 10 year achievement, the original has 5 year, he's still cooked guys o7
•
•
•
u/Academic_Frame4294 2d ago
For those that dont know, the original game has a 5 year achievement, ultra deluxe has the 10 year, and the first people to get it wont be till 2032 at the earliest since it dropped in 2022

If you change the time on your console to add 10 years you can get the achievement/trophy. Just an fyi for anybody that didn't know
•
•
u/ByronBidon 4h ago
There is an achievement in the video game "The Stanley Parable". If you lauch the game after five years of not touching it, you will get that trophy. In its remastered version (The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe) the time is doubled to ten years.

So exactly that does not happen
