I don’t think it’s real myself (he just completed Air Riders for crying out loud), but for argument’s sake, if there was a Smash game (not SSBU Switch 2 edition, but a full new game) revealed on Wednesday, what chapters would be eligible for major (fighters, stages, bosses, remixes, etc.) content?

But we also know that Toby planned this for a LONG time, to the point that by 2016, he had clear ideas for Ralsei, Flowery and their dynamic with each other. So I’m wondering if that could have an effect on anything like how Greninja and Byleth were able to circumvent their issues. Why do I bring this up? Because from the sans mii outfit reveal, we know that Sakurai and Toby know each other personally, so some insider information is possible. How likely this is to allow content from Chapters 3 onwards, I don’t know.

Refardless, given how Sora released in 2021, my best bet would be if Deltarune was represented, I would assume be mostly from Chapters 1 and 2, as 2021 or 2022 would be when this development would reasonably start (ignoring the Gigantes in the room)

I think Toby would prefer a darkner.

Flowery, Mew Mew, Gerson maybe, Tenna would be an easier one since he’s already 3D. Probably one of those.

Tenna might seem like the easiest choice at first cuz of 3d but then you realize he doesnt have any iconic moves that fit a smash game, like no way he distortion cuts the entire screen or drags the other players to play rythm games as an ultimate. Gerson or mew mew would be cool ngl

You can just animate new moves. He has a kicking animation, he has that fire extinguisher spraying he used against Spamton, he can use a revolver like in the Cowboy minigame, etc.

* if Deltarune only gets one fighter slot (it is, these new non-Nintendo franchise representatives get a single fighter) then i’d want it to be someone who can represent the entire game as a whole. So, basically just Ralsei.

* Flowery and Gerson have the highest moveset potential, and are the best natural fits. From both a gameplay and artistic angle. but again, representation problem. They’re episodic characters who stuck around for only a single chapter, it would be weird for them to represent the game as a whole. Unless you really wanted to make an exception for them.

* pretty much everyone else (minus Ralsei) falls into the same boat.

Flowery will be a very iconic character though and perfect for a fighting game IMO. Yes the game is episodic but it’s not like it’s a small role in a huge game. He is the primary antagonist for a chunk of the story.

I think Deltarune mainly has a chance if Sakurai’s back, and if Sakurai’s back then I wouldn’t expect the game until 2029-ish.

So basically I’d expect it to mostly represent chapters 1-5, since Toby probably wouldn’t want anything after that to show up anyway. I picture something like a Hometown stage that transforms into different dark worlds as fountains open and seal in the background.

This is wishful thinking, but my dream list would be Flowery, Kris, Ralsei, and someone else but idk who.

Considering Sakurai himself has said that he usually barely has time between finishing one project and beginning the next, I'm going to asume that Smash 6 (IF THIS IS REAL), likely went into early production around this time last year.

IF the reveal immediately happens on Wednesday, I think everything up to probably Chapter 4 is eligible. Chapter 5 might be pushing it outside of Spirits & Music since those are easier to do later into the dev cycle than characters or stages. If the reveal were to happen in like, a February direct, I think Chapter 5 is a bit more of a lock.

I don't think that "Insider Info" for Deltarune is the same as Fire Emblem and Pokemon. Two of them are in development for long long periods of time and have enough internal structure that Sakurai & the dev team can just go and look at. Deltarune meanwhile is Toby's brainchild, literally and figuratively, so anything about it would likely be direct from him and he'd probably want a heavy bit in helping design how things break down with it.

If the rumor is true, I'd assume we're still a ways out from a new Smash being announced though I'm not sure by how much. If UTDR content is in it (which I strongly believe), chances are it'll only be up to what we have now, and any extra might be added through DLC for Mii Costumes and MAYBE a DLC fighter from a later chapter/another interpretation.

If I had to guess now with a semi-solid prediction, I'd say our set up for DR in Smash 6 at launch is:
One Fighter - Susie, One Stage - Castle Town or The Dark Fountain, Several Music Tracks/Spirits/Mii Costumes across both games and MAYBE a Story Boss if we're lucky.

My biggest question is what character would it be? You’d think Kris is the obvious choice, but Toby has a “no-lighter” rule for merch, and every Smash fighter gets their own amiibo eventually, so would Toby break that rule for the amiibo, or would the fighter be a darker like Ralsei?

There’s also the chance that he keeps Deltarune non-fighter and goes with an Undertale monster (sans) to circumvent the no-lightner issue entirely

I think Frisk would be a better choice than anyone from Deltarune, but since we already have the Sans costume and because DR is Toby’s dream game, I’d expect a DR character.

Flowery would be my personal pick, with assistance from the other six colored flowers. But I think Susie is actually the most likely option. She’s the least secretive character, and we’ve already seen her magic arsenal expand. She’s also obviously very iconic. Kris is hiding a lot of things from us that would make a moveset more difficult, and they don’t have magic. Ralsei is hiding even more things from us, Noelle’s full potential hasn’t quite been explored (and she’s very weak physically, which makes her harder to work with than Susie), and that’s it for prominent Lightners.

Spamton could be a Darkner candidate, or Gerson, but I find Gerson unlikely. Tenna doesn’t really have the move pool for it, but thematically he’d be a good fit. Spamton is probably the best Darkner choice with Flowery as runner up, but if it were anyone I’d fully expect Susie

* Realistically, nothing. Probably another Mii Costume. But that’s not a fun answer.

* if we go by pure representative of the entire game, The Fun Gang as a whole as a more dynamic Triple-Ice Climbers is one i’ve imagined. But if the No-Lightner Merch rule is still in place, then just make it Ralsei.

* I love Flowery he’s my single favorite character in the entire game and he’s a natural fit for a platform fighter, but i cannot see him being the only representative of the game. That has to be Ralsei. Flowery can be a secondary rep, but saying Deltarune deserves 2 entire slots on the roster is a hard sell for Smash.

* Spamton and Tenna are oddball picks, you might argue they work better than Flowery, and by representative measures i’d agree. But when it comes to them being characters in a platform fighter, they seriously don’t have anywhere close to the moveset material that Flowery does.

* i would say The Roaring Knight if the game was complete, which, it very well could be by the time this next Smash game releases, or as DLC. But right now, definitely not.

I am convinced that platformer mode was partially designed as a showcase of a potential Kris Smash Bros moveset (not saying he conceptualized it as that, he's had those ideas for a while, but I think it kind of does double duty there). I mean it fits perfectly, I feel like the artstyle would ultimately work fine in Smash, the idle, run, and jump animations could be copied over, the slash could absolutely be their jab, the aerial attack could be a neutral/forwards aerial, and the acting could totally be re worked into a neutral special

The only character with any real chance of being a fighter is Sans.
1. Nintendo seems to be avoiding indie characters as much as possible (Steve is the exception)
2. Toby is very sensitive about depicting Lightners in any official media, and there are no Darkners that have enough content for a full moveset that won't be super spoiler-y
3. Undertale is much more well known than Deltarune, and Sans is the defacto mascot

If we ignore all the above points, Kris could be a swordie with some iconic ACTs for their specials and Susie's Idea for the Final Smash
