DELAWARE MEMORIAL BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ALERT

If you’re heading to New Jersey, you’re going to want to know about this one.

Major construction will begin September 7, 2026, on the New Jersey-bound side of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

The work will replace 46 bridge joints and is expected to continue through November 24, before the busy holiday travel season.

What drivers need to know:

NJ-bound traffic:

The two right lanes on the New Jersey-bound span will be closed 24/7. The two left lanes will remain open.

A special bypass lane will be added on the Delaware-bound side. But there’s an important catch:

The bypass lane is ONLY for passenger vehicles heading toward the NJ Turnpike or U.S. Route 40.

Trucks, tractor-trailers, buses and other commercial vehicles CANNOT use the bypass lane.

Heading into Delaware:

Three right lanes will remain open for traffic heading toward I-95 and I-495. The left lane will be used for the temporary bypass.

Where are you going in New Jersey?

If you’re driving a passenger vehicle to the NJ Turnpike or U.S. 40, you can use the bypass lane and merge directly toward those routes.

If you’re heading toward U.S. 130, Route 49 or other local New Jersey destinations, you MUST stay in the regular northbound lanes.

Commercial vehicles must also remain in the two open northbound lanes.

Officials say drivers should expect delays heading into New Jersey, especially during morning and evening rush hours and busy weekends.

The DRBA is advising motorists to slow down, pay attention in the construction zone and allow extra travel time.

Plan accordingly , because nobody wants to start their morning sitting on a bridge.

I know this is very “basic” of me, but I am not from Newark (I live here now) and I am interested in recommendations for any farms or orchards that have fall attractions. I know about Milburn and Linvilla Orchards. Looking for anything else in the general area, even into Lancaster. I have a 3 year-old who I think would be able to actually appreciate some autumn stuff. There's been a lot of buzz around data centers and affordable housing. A lot of that stuff is determined at the county level. I started seeing all over the US where county councils (and their equivalents) have been the ones deciding if data centers will come in or not.

I'm not sure if it's just me and my algorithm, but I feel like more people are paying attention to county councils than they have before (which is a good thing imo). I'm hoping it's not just me out here hoping things can get better, lol.

What do you think? Also would love to know your thoughts on these candidates. I have my own opinions so far, but wanna know what others are seeing.

Does anyone commute from Newark to Dover, or has anyone done it in the past?

Long story short, I moved back to Newark a few years ago after living in Kennett Square for about 10 years because I took a job in Wilmington. I recently found out that I’ll be working at our Dover location for the next six months or so.

Just wondering how bad the commute is every day and what traffic is usually like. Is it manageable, or am I going to hate my life😅

We’re planning a move to be closer to family, but may not be able to afford Cape. Can anyone speak to how schools have been recently in Milford and Indian River? My kids will be 12, 9 and 5 when we move, they’re smart and adaptable kids who milk the most out of the education at their current middle of the road school, so I’m open-minded about moving to a less than ideal district but want to make sure I’m not setting them up to fail or be miserable.

Be aware that Silver Meadow Rabbitry is a scam. They scammed my daughter. Right now their FB page is down because she reported them. They had told my daughter they had a backup page. So always take caution when buying animals online.

Has anyone found mutton available anywhere in northern Delaware or a nearby state? Either readily packaged or by special order? Odd request, I know, but figured I’d attempt to crowdsource the answer before starting to call/email around.

Next to the Marriott on 141 N. across the street from Ferris there is a small building going up with decently sized windows. Does anyone have any information on what is potentially going here? I checked Newcastle County’s website for their active plans and could not find anything listed. In doing such, I did find out that there is a 7 Brew coming to the old men’s clothing store on Kirkwood next to Aldi (3924 Kirkwood Hwy).

I'm a longtime volunteer in White Clay Creek SP and you may have passed me trimming back brush or draining muddy areas to keep the trails nice. I do this because the park is a treasure and I want to do my part to preserve it. If you also care about White Clay Creek State Park, or just don't want your tax money wasted on someone's personal pet project, listen up.

A handful of politically connected men have managed to secure $6 million of your taxes to build a huge dam and artificial pond in White Clay Creek SP. The project is being sold as a "restoration" of the original DuPont era "big pond" across the road from Paper Mill Park but it's NOT en environmental project. That original artificial pond was only a foot deep and was buit to attract waterfowl for hunting. When its small dam failed in 2000 the pond reverted back to meadow, which was deemed best for the ecology by DNREC. What's being rammed through now though is a MUCH larger dam and deeper artificial pond than was ever on the property.

Rebuilding the dam was never included in the park's Master Plan because it was deemed too expensive, impractical and unnecessary. Construction would close a section of the park for over a year while heavy equipment removes a significant number of trees. DNREC has been working to remove legacy dams and replant trees so this is a huge step backwards. It would impact the water quality of Middle Run Creek and could completely stop the flow of the creek while filling the pond. The park's major user groups (Friends of WCCSP and Trail Spinners) are strongly opposed to this project. DNREC's hands are tied because the money was signed into law in Dover but do not have the manpower or budget to support such a dam in the future. The ongoing expense would come out of the park's already stretched budget and mean cuts to other park programs and services (or increased fees). In short, aside from the people pulling political strings to get that money, NOBODY wants this dam and the park can't afford to take care of it.

This new pond is so large that the Army Corps of Engineers has to permit the project, and this is one of our last chances to stop this project and reallocate the remainder of the funds to the projects DNREC has prioritized, such as trail maintenance, improvements to parking lots and restrooms, and other much needed improvements that would positively impact all park users.

Hi! i’m 21F and a visual communications student at Cecil county community College, but i live in Newark. i’m currently working on building up my marketing portfolio while i focus on finishing up my coursework at cecil, and possibly transfer to Wilmington University or UD.

I haven’t had any luck going through my school or indeed for an internship, because i always get to the interview part and then they find out i have autism and ghost me. Or they ghost me from the start because im not a UD student. I have a 3.8 GPA at cecil, with my work routinely being featured in their marketing departments. I’m taking coursework there in web design. photography, video production, & graphic design.

I really need experience, I run a local activism groups instagram and do social media, flyer, & photography work for bands , but am looking to expand my horizons. Im okay with paid or unpaid, In person or hybrid/remote, im just very desperate at this point.

Can give my resume and experience/portfolio document to anybody who needs it. Can give more information also. any pointers are so appreciated , i tried the vocational rehab program but they don’t really help for something like this

Update: I went into Meadowwood yesterday, Friday. I told them I had concerns because my wife was there and I don’t think they are giving her the accommodations that she needs. I spoke to a nurse there. They told me that my wife was fine and was likely taking a few days to give me space before she reached out to me again. They also told me that they have an interpreter who was in on Thursday and they have a nurse and a manager who also speaks sign language. I also asked the nurse if she could tell my wife I’ve been calling and she said yes. I recorded the whole interaction. I walked out feeling a little bit better.

Today, Saturday comes. I am calling and calling and calling, and I just keep getting that they have too many calls coming in so my call keeps getting dropped. I texted my landlord and she called them and it went through right away. I called again and it got dropped. I finally got forwarded to admissions (because I guess reception didn’t want to answer) and they transferred me to her unit. Because she is deaf I just told them I’m looking to speak to her and they went out and got her. She called me from her personal phone. I have a recording of our whole conversation. These are some key takeaways:

Nobody told her that I was calling for 3 whole days until I finally spoke with someone on her unit today.

As of Friday, she has a translation device that she only uses in doctors appointments. Meaning all of her other interactions with people who is in charge of her care, and the other patients, is writing. The part that disappoints me the most is that she says that her nurse who is in charge of her meds won’t answer her questions at all and refuses to write.

She in fact did not have an interpreter on Thursday (although my wife said that the interpreter device might’ve came in on Thursday) “There is an interpreter l, we got an interpreter yesterday (Thursday) so there is an interpreter involved” was the women’s words on Friday.

I made it very clear to the staff there that it is illegal to not provide accommodations for all of her interactions. I also made it very clear that I have a video of my conversation with the nurse and a recording of my phone call today.

I want to make sure that Meadowwood is treating my wife well. She sounds good and healthy. She says she hasn’t been any trouble and that I am still her emergency contact for everything.

My wife deserves better.

Also I am a women, I am my wife’s wife 🥰
