Coen looks so miserable when she tells him that they can't be together. Genuinely broke my heart. My boy can't catch a break.

Censorship is a strange and mysterious thing. NSFW

In this image we see humans being strung up by their feet and literally drained of blood. A truly gruesome scene. But thankfully the vampires have some decency and let the dead humans keep their undergarments.

Censorship in general is bizarre, but this really breaks immersion that the vampires are cruel monsters. The game does feature nudity, but I guess making these victims naked would've been too much.

One of the Best RPGs since Witcher 3

Upvotes

Dawnwalker has gotten a lot of criticism on this sub and im not sure I understand most of it. I have 13 days left and have been having an absolute blast. Easily my GOTY so far. Yes it has rough edges and things that could be cleaned up but the writing is superb, the quests and locals are awesome, the way things connect together and the way you actually FEEL your choices and their impact is so cool, the voice acting is uniformly great, the combat once you get into it and get past the learning curve is excellent, the sense of progression is really solid, and i adore the time mechanic. People freaked out early because it's daunting and different but as you play, you realize you have plenty of time for everything major and the swapping between night and day works really well.

Idk man, I fucking love this game and am having such a great time. It's right up there with Witcher 3, KCD2, etc for immersive RPGs and I am really intrigued at how everything is going to come together (no spoilers!) Has anyone else felt this way or is it just me?

Manumites kinda suck? Spoiler

Upvotes

Pretty much the title, all they do is come up with random “we’re gonna wing it” plans that just result in mass amounts of people dying and their just like “it was for a good cause” and accomplish fuck all. The whole silver mine plan resulted in the entire town getting raised with nothing to show for it (exception being coen) but that was just luck bc he had silver in his blood. And almost every other encounter in the world with them is a group of them being wiped out or mass tortured by the Kynaz military. And don’t even get me started on the endgame plan they have.

This game needs a photo mode

There's way too many cool things for it to not have one. Photo mode is basically free marketing pics these days. On an unrelated note, the ultimate sword feels well earned in this game.

Ambrus

I finished the game some days ago, and maybe it was my gameplay or the choices I made, but I’m a littleeee bit disappointed... I found the boyars’ design so phenomenal and beautiful, it gave me so much inspiration. And I’m kinda disappointed that I only got to see them for such a short period, basically just during the boss fight. I would’ve loved to see Ambrus in more scenes....

Home Sweet Home awful quest design

Stripping away all your gear and consumables, without warning, then locking the player into a day/night timer, with a series of mini-bosses.

I don't appreciate getting railroaded down unavoidable sequences while naked with a grey sword and no healing consumables despite having gathered and crafted hundreds.

My GOTY

Upvotes

Let me state this is my opinion. If you disagree or feel differently that’s fine. I have played many RPGs. It’s my favorite genre of game. From Kotor to Witcher to Mass effect to Legend of Dragoon. This game to me meets those same standards.

The story and writing are top notch. The world and atmosphere is amazing and I have enjoyed engrossing myself in it. From Vicho and Lacra, there are so many great characters. I purposely made myself not do everything my first playthrough. I want to be able to go back and do a different path.

For their first game Rebel wolves have knocked it out of the park. Trying to add new mechanics and while all of them may not have worked. Still, I appreciate the thought of trying to make it different. Coen is a badass protagonist and I can’t wait to see how his story evolves. What a game and introduction into this world. Thank you to everyone who worked on such a beautiful game.

A**** and V**** should have been romance options Spoiler

Upvotes

They should have added Ambrus or Vicho as possible romance options or flings for Coen. I've been wondering why only Ambrus' voice can speak to you after you invite him in. Plus wouldn't it be interesting if ONE of Brencis' lieutenants had a redemption arc, especially the one who was just turned into a vampire? He had so much potential character development.

Vicho, too! He had more chemistry with Coen than Crake / Marat. LOL and there's a whoooooole internal conflict there with him being a vampire AND a Christian. He could be Coen's eternal friend / companion. If Lacra is a deadly assassin type, he would be the undead cleric LOL

***** should be romancable Spoiler

Upvotes

Vicho is such a cool character. I know its a long shot, but BG3 devs added a crap ton of content post launch. Just one smooch I dont care, man. He's so much more interesting than Crake. PLUS we would have an even split of vamps/human romances. IM ON MY KNEEEES 😭

Fifty Shades of grey is all I can see. Ultra Graphics, btw.

Currently, my biggest gripe with the game after 30 hours! I love dark fantasy, but there are rarely playful colors or great lighting at night. My nights look pretty dull 90% of the time.

30 hours in: feedback and suggestions for improving Dawnwalker

Upvotes

*EDIT: For those who care - I wrote the list as I played through several days in my native (Polish) language. Then I asked chatgpt to group, sort, format and translate into english. *

I’m really enjoying The Blood of Dawnwalker so far. I’m around 30 hours in, and the atmosphere, world design, day/night duality and overall RPG structure are working very well for me. I've not yet completed the game, so NO SPOILERS PLEASE.

Below is a consolidated list of things that stood out during my playthrough. I’ve split them into improvements to existing systems and new features/QoL ideas.

Improvements to existing systems

1. Combat camera and target switching need improvement

Fighting multiple enemies can become unnecessarily chaotic because the camera and lock-on sometimes jump between targets.

This becomes especially frustrating on higher difficulties, where one missed block or counter can result in death. The player should be fighting the enemies, not the camera.

2. Facial animation and lip-sync need more polish

The character models and faces look very good, but during dialogue the facial animation often feels unnatural.

At times characters resemble very well-made wax figures or wooden puppets. Better facial expressions, subtler emotional reactions and tighter lip-sync would significantly improve dialogue scenes.

3. Human NPCs should react more strongly to Coen’s vampire behaviour

NPC reactions often feel too calm when Coen openly reveals his supernatural nature.

For example, rescued civilians may watch him use claws, vampire powers or drain enemies without reacting appropriately. Their responses should differ depending on whether Coen helps them as a human during the day or openly behaves like a vampire at night.

4. Companion NPCs should comment on supernatural actions

Human companions can currently ignore obviously unnatural behaviour.

For example, during the monastery quest with Anca, Coen can drain rats and other animals in front of her and she does not react at all. Even a short comment expressing discomfort, surprise or fear would make the world feel much more reactive.

5. Vicho’s behaviour in “A Study in Crimson” feels inconsistent

Vicho repeatedly explains that he should move across rooftops because he can barely control his blood hunger.

Later, after visiting Doctor Simeon’s house, he starts walking normally through streets full of people despite not feeding in the meantime. Nothing appears to explain why his hunger suddenly stops being a concern.

6. Inventory item comparison should be easier

The inventory would benefit from a proper side-by-side comparison view.

It should be possible to quickly compare two weapons, consumables or other items without repeatedly switching between them.

7. Items assigned to the quick-access bar should be clearly marked

The inventory does not make it obvious enough which consumables are currently assigned to the quick-access bar.

This makes it unnecessarily difficult to compare healing items and prepare a combat loadout.

8. Different types of consumables should be visually distinct

Short combat buffs lasting several seconds should be clearly differentiated from longer alchemical effects lasting for time segments.

Different icons, borders, categories or another visual indicator would make their intended use much easier to understand at a glance.

9. Switching back from keyboard/mouse to controller is too slow

When playing on PC primarily with a controller, using the keyboard or mouse causes a noticeable delay before controller input becomes active again.

Even something as simple as taking a screenshot with the keyboard can temporarily interrupt controller input. Input switching should feel effectively instantaneous.

10. Night-time streets could feel more believable

Ordinary townspeople and villagers seem too active at night.

Historically, night-time movement in medieval towns was often restricted, and people outside after dark commonly needed a reason or a source of light. Having fewer ordinary civilians outside at night would also strengthen the game’s atmosphere.

Night-time streets could instead be dominated by guards, suspicious characters, criminals and people who clearly have a reason to be outside.

New features and QoL suggestions

1. Vampire stealth mechanics

The vampire form strongly suggests stealth gameplay, but the game currently does not fully support it.

Climbing walls, moving across rooftops and using vertical terrain would naturally work with silent takedowns, ambushes, attacks from above and quietly clearing enemy camps at night.

The existing movement system already creates the fantasy of a nocturnal predator; stealth mechanics would complete it.

2. Optional Iron Man mode

An optional Iron Man mode would fit this game extremely well.

Suggested rules:

  • No manual saves
  • No quick saves
  • Frequent automatic saves
  • Autosaves after combat, major dialogue choices, theft attempts, level-ups and periodically during exploration
  • Decisions and mistakes are final
  • Achievement for completing the game in this mode

The game already places a strong emphasis on consequences and limited time, so this would complement its design naturally.

3. HUD visibility options

Please add configurable HUD visibility.

Suggested modes:

  • Always Visible
  • Dynamic – most HUD elements disappear during exploration
  • Off – completely hidden for immersion and screenshots

4. Hide the HUD during simple minigames and contextual activities

During activities such as chopping wood, treating wounds and similar interactions, most HUD elements are unnecessary.

Hiding them automatically would create a cleaner and more cinematic presentation.

5. Clear success/failure indicators for completed quests

Completed quests should show their result more clearly.

For example:

  • Green – completed successfully
  • Red – failed or ended negatively

This would make the quest log much easier to read.

6. Chronological sorting and “new” indicators in the quest log

The quest journal would benefit from chronological sorting and a marker for newly updated entries.

A small exclamation mark, star or similar icon could indicate:

  • newly discovered quests
  • recently updated quests
  • newly completed quests

The indicator should remain available after completion so the player can easily find and read the final outcome or epilogue.

7. Hold Xbox View to open the map directly

A short press of the Xbox View button could continue opening the radial menu.

Holding the button could open the map directly, avoiding an unnecessary extra input for a screen that players access frequently.

Highest-priority items

If only a few things could be addressed, I would prioritise:

  1. Combat camera and target switching
  2. Facial animation and lip-sync
  3. NPC reactions to vampire behaviour
  4. Vampire stealth mechanics
  5. Inventory and consumable UI improvements
  6. Optional Iron Man mode

Overall, I’m enjoying the game a lot. These are mostly refinement and immersion suggestions rather than complaints, and I think addressing some of them could make an already strong RPG noticeably better.

Please fix the lock on and combat camera

Upvotes

I love the game, I like the timer, I love the story, the world looks beautiful and the voice acting is great.

But I cannot stand the lock on system in this game it's got to a point where I can't progress because the damn camera won't let me hit the person I want to bloody hit ... In tighter spaces with more than say 2 enemies it falls apart so quickly ... I'm having to retry fights that I'm stuck in quick save hell in like 10 times because the camera cannot handle that many enemies it's infuriating. I'm not someone who doesn't like a challenge either. I play most RPGs like the Witcher on hard because I feel like it forces you to use more of the games systems but right now I can't even enjoy it on regular. I'm putting the game down for now and hopefully something changes soon cause I really want to play it in my limited game time everyday without getting frustrated.
