I'm building a 2.5D cyberpunk immersive sim as part of several mini-games that get released and cracked inside an alternate 1989 Japan... NSFW
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
At this present moment I have made a 2.5D map and object engine using C++ and Raylib which is starting to build things in the style I want.
The game is actually going to be a mini game within my larger project Glyphis_IO BBS: The Proxy Tapes 1989, which is a hacking adventure/sim set in an alternate 1989 Japan.
The idea with this particular mini game is that it will eventually be a mix of Deus Ex and System Shock in terms of the physics and world. The story is also connected to my wider Civitas Universe which is heavily based around transhumanism and multi-dimensional theory.
I am trying to work out from a design perspective what these maps really need to be to make them feel like a proper cyberpunk world rather than just putting neon everywhere.
At the moment I'm looking at things like multiple ways to achieve an outcome, map loops, shortcuts, environmental storytelling and possible destructible world elements (if I can get that working). Super keen to hear anyones thoughts, especially if you loved games like System Shock and Dues Ex back in the day.
What do you think are the really important elements of a cyberpunk game world that I should be thinking about?
I'm trying to build this around work and kids, but have found myself doing regular Friday night streams (UK time) where I build the maps and work on the game.
I stream the progress and map building every week on YouTube if you wanted to feed my thoughts in a live environment?
Would love some people from this sub to pop in and share some wisdom with me while I'm figuring this thing out.
And if you wanted to see the overarching game where this will eventually be, it's Glyphis_IO BBS: The Proxy Tapes 1989. Feel free to wishlist if it's something you'd be keen to play, no worries if not.
Thanks!
edit: not sure why it is labelled as nsfw, sorry!

...die like the rest
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
In a Tubi terrible sci-fi hole and found a "cyberpunk" movie called "Absolute Agression" 1996(or 1995), staring Robert Davi (the goonies) where convitcs are forced to fight in VR games to the death...
But a hacker uses the ROM chip installed in the skull of one of the convicts to hide a virus to take down the system the next time he jacks in... At which point they drop the line: "fuck with the best, die like the rest"
This is almost not interesting, but my brain can't tune out the similarity to our beloved "Hackers," 1995. I feel like I am staring at a double rainbow here...hackers, same line, almost the same production time... I have no answers, only questions.
Jump to 53 seconds for the line. Everything else is the hacking explenation buildup.

Also Doing a 2 TV setup for Xbox Minecraft+fortnight, etc. What's missing?

Ghost in the Shell (1995) is cyberpunk poetry. Oshii fused hand-drawn animation with early digital compositing to create its iconic cityscapes & the “shelling sequence” was so influential the Wachowskis screened the film for the Matrix crew before shooting. Spoiler

Original pixel art for an underground district in my cyberpunk game
I'm working on an underground area where industrial structures have gradually been built into the cave system. I'm trying to keep the environment dark and oppressive while still making the path readable.
Would you push the industrial side further, or keep more of the natural cave visible?

Mondo 2000 Merch
Ken Goffman Mondo 2000 recently had an event in San Francisco with my dad being one of the guests playing. My dad made a bunch of merch to sell at the show obviously not all of it sold so now we are left with quite a bit of T-shirts. Most of the stuff is Grateful Dead/phish/r.u sirius/Mondo 2000 hybrid clothes. I’m wondering if there’s still a market for any of this stuff or how to find people who would be interested in this stuff. I want to be able to get my dad and I art out there and not just have it wasting away at our house. it’s not low quality quickly made shirts, we spent months screen printing and dying everything by hand on some of the clothes. We just have to find the right person for it because not everyone wants an abstract upcycled crazy shirt with mondo 2000 all over it. (I would like to mention that every shirt is different to my dad lets me and my siblings work on them and just have our own creative freedom.) Normally the clothes that we sell that’s not Mondo 2000 we sell at shakedown streets so we’re a little unfamiliar with selling them not on a lot.
Currently, I have some posted on reselling sites like Vinted but no one views them nor do. I don’t think people are going on that site to find Mondo 2000 clothes

My game is running on a real cyberdeck
A cyberdeck Engineer/YouTuber reached out to me and said he wanted to try my game on his deck. I sent him a copy and he sent me these screenshots.
Seeing something I made running on an actual cyberdeck is such a cool feeling. The game is a 90s-inspired terminal hacking game with its own simulated operating system. This is probably the closest I've gotten to seeing my game exist in the world I originally imagined for it.
His cyberdeck looks absolutely awesome by the way. Truly another level!
To see more :
Check out his setup here: Cyberdeck Video
Game : Game Link
Any wishlist would be a huge help for me!
