Haha yup you got it. Been binging it lately so it’s fresh on my mind.
Highly recommend another show called Mindhunter on Netflix. Unfortunately got cancelled after a few seasons but it focuses on the creation of the BAU and is really well done. The two main actors in that show are great.

Yes, but the cost to get the car out impound isn't going to be fun.
At least Florida's super speeding is actual super speeding: 50+ over, or going over 100 mph.
Virginia is 20+ over, or going over 85 mph. I believe Georgia is similarly low... I get passed many times daily by people going 85+ in a 65/70 mph zone.

Where I live it's called reckless driving/racing. Up to a year in jail, $5000 fine, and they can auction your car.

Florida started a new law on January 1, 2026 called "Super Speeder" Law. In an effort to crack down on highly excessive speed - more than the usual "reckless" that is already a law on the books there - it allows police to arrest and impound vehicles of anyone going more than 50mph over the speed limit or over 100mph.
As I said above, reckless (not wreckless) driving is already a thing but this is over and above that for egregious cases.

Only if they’re braindead. Running will make it a thousand times worse, and even if you do manage to evade them they have your license plate number and car description. With that they can get your address, place of work, and all other kinds of information about you. Couple days later and you’re gonna have a very unhappy group of police officers knocking on your door or showing up at your work. And then you’re fucked.

super speeding predates the law, it's a thing, though super speeders don't usually get caught. infact back in the day boomers i talked to made sure they were out of the way and away from public when they horsed around back in the day. shame they are closing more and more tracks these days, hopefully this doesn't get worse. granted these are idiots unless this unmarked car is a 1997 dodge caravan idk how you miss a cop behind you.

That actually is a thing! Jacksonville is a prime example of urban sprawl. We have lengthy, straight roadways everywhere and drag racing is extremely common. I hear it nightly where I live.

They do that here already. Mustangs, Corvettes, even minivans are used for undercover stings and ordinary traffic enforcement all the time. The other cars driver was ID’d and he turned himself in a day or two later.

When I was in college many years ago in Gainesville, FL (my current home location), they held a home-coming parade every year. One year they had a Corvette that was painted in police black and white, rolling in the parade. It had previously belonged to a drug dealer, but the drug dealer no longer needed it, since they don’t allow inmates to drive.

Cops are trained to talk super tough because psychologically it reduces the likelihood that people will resist.
Kinda like a little dog barking super loudly.
Even tiny female cops yell like they’re the toughest person in town.
I’ve seen films of cop recruits training and heard the people in charge repeatedly demanding that the recruits talk louder and tougher.•

The cop doesn't know whether the racing was done out of boredom or because the driver is amped up on any one (or more) of a number of drugs that give the user the temporary ability to overpower him. Quickly and aggressively subduing the driver mitigates that threat.

These drivers could have easily killed someone else on the road that night. This cop has likely come across many traffic fatalities in his career with most of them due to speeding. Look, I hate power hungry cops as much as the next redditor but he is sending a message that this stunt is serious and he's being arrested as a result of it. A message worth sending so these selfish pricks don't try this again in the future.

First of all, you are making a horrendous accusation about how this man treats his wife with absolutely zero evidence whatsoever. I really think you should retract that statement.
But putting that aside, this is two cars going 50 mph over the speed limit with other cars around them on a major interstate. They could have easily killed themselves and/or several other people. If you don't think this is reason enough to be a little bit aggressive, I don't know what would be a good reason. They are putting lives on the line. When the officer approaches the car, he has no idea if the driver is impaired or armed. He is protecting himself and the citizens who could have been impacted for life.

No he is angry because he has to chase that - its 2 cars it must be very distracting for him to maintain control of his own vehicle not designed for drag race speeds, and he can easily crash himself . Then he pulls them over he could get hit by a car while standing arresting the first man. Not over reacting at all.

Why stop at that point? Should have at least taken a try to outrun the cop. The extra charges would have been worth the risk.

I understand where u/castle_crossing is going with their statement. I'm surprised too they bothered to stop as their vehicles could probably outperform the officer's.
A lot of these street racers will remove their plates too in an attempt to avoid detection and subsequent arrests.
Although, it's hard to tell in the video, I don't think either one of them did? Which is probably why they pulled over and the other one surrendered.

Nah. You drag race and do 120mph directly in front of a cop, you get booked. You'll be out in a few hours and your car will be impounded pending the outcome of your court case. It's a super easy outcome to avoid.
