I've been fleshing out my personal college basketball database, so I figured I would share some stats I found interesting.
First, and possibly already well known, AJ Dybantsa was the only player to score a 30-point triple-double with 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Only 7 other players since 2015 have accomplished this feat:
- T.J. Cline (Richmond, 2017)
- Fatodd Lewis (UT Martin, 2018)
- Darius Thompson (Western Kentucky, 2018)
- Martaveous McKnight (Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 2018)
- Tyler Robertson (Portland, 2022)
- Drew Pember (UNC Asheville, 2024)
- Blake Harper (Howard, 2025)
Five players managed to average over 11 rebounds per game. Steinbach's 11.77 RPG ranks only 40th among season leaders since 2015.
- Hannes Steinbach (Washington) with 11.77
- Justin Neely (UNC Greensboro) with 11.50
- Reuben Chinyelu (Florida) with 11.23
- Delrecco Gillespie (Kent State) with 11.21
- Michael Ajayi (Butler) with 11.12
In case you are wondering, in 2022 Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky) averaged 15.15 rebounds per game over 34 games.
On the other end of the spectrum, some players were liabilities. Below are the top 5 in turnovers per game:
- Josiah Davis (Cal State Northridge) with 4.65
- Money Williams (Montana) with 4.09
- Jakevion Buckley (New Orleans) with 3.97
- Alex Wilkins (Furman) with 3.83
- Elijah Duval (Southern Utah) with 3.61
Now I would argue that this is not always indicative of being a liability for your team. In many cases, these are simply the players who control the ball for a large share of their team's offensive possessions. For example, in 2018 Trae Young averaged 5.22 per game, and in 2019 Ja Morant averaged 5.15 turnovers per game. Since 2015, only four player-seasons have reached at least 5 turnovers per game (Josh Sharkey did it in both 2019 and 2020 for Samford).
Another fun fact is that JT Toppin was the only player (with at least 15 games) to average at least
- 20 points per game (21.84)
- 1 assist per game (2.12)
- 1 steal per game (1.36)
- 1 block per game (1.72)
- 1 rebound per game (10.80)
Yes, the rebound threshold really is only 1.
I would note that only 16 players since 2015 have met all five thresholds including Pascal Siakam (2016), Markelle Fultz (2017), Zion Williamson (2019), Keegan Murray (2022), Kris Murray (2023), and Riley Minix (2024).
Below are the top 5 players in terms of total personal fouls:
- Kimani Hamilton (UNLV), 125 (35 games)
- Matas Vokietaitis (Texas), 123 (36 games)
- Cory Wells (Prairie View A&M), 123 (37 games)
- Avantae Parker (Queens University), 123 (35 games)
- Jaquan Scott (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), 118 (31 games)
Now it is worth noting that Jaquan Scott easily had the highest per-game average on the season with 3.81. That made me wonder: how close has anyone come to averaging the maximum of 5?
Since 2015, the closest (with a reasonable number of games) was Lavon Long (Siena) who averaged 4.19 personal fouls over the course of 27 games. Lavon fouled out in 10 of those games, so he had quite the impressive season, in terms of fouling.
Similarly, I figured I would calculate which teams committed the most personal fouls per game and here are the top 5 since 2015:
- Manhattan (2017), 24.78
- Southern Utah (2017), 24.55
- Tennessee State (2019), 24.53
- UT Rio Grande Valley (2017), 24.38
- The Citadel (2016), 24.06
The Citadel actually tied UNC Wilmington in 2016, with both teams playing the same number of games. (I did not want to snub them from the list.)
To put this in perspective, IU Indianapolis led Division I in 2025-26 with 22.12 personal fouls per game, which ranks only 45th among team-seasons since 2015.
