The decision was made after consulting the Chesapeake Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, police said.

Because the headline makes it out that the driver shot the person for blocking their vehicle.

" Based on witness interviews and video evidence, police say a delivery driver was making a delivery on the street when Baum blocked his vehicle and a “verbal altercation” began. The altercation escalated when Baum physically assaulted the driver, police said.

During the altercation, Baum armed himself with an edged weapon and threatened the driver with serious bodily harm. The driver then shot Baum with his handgun. Police did not specify the edged weapon, but it was recovered at the scene."

Open and shut, self defense

Yup, self defense. Some of the stories online made it sound like the delivery driver turned around and shot Baum unprovoked. More proof we need all facts to come out before making any sort of judgement.

Yeah, sounds like the headline should be "No charges for driver who killed man who was about to stab him."

Damn, that is the complete opposite of what I read last night from Wavy. It literally just said Baum yelled to the driver to slow down and the driver circled back, pop pop, and fled. Holy shit.

Yeah people have been clutching their pearls and demanding justice on Facebook. Pretty good illustration on the importance of letting all the facts come out before passing judgement and not just interviews from family and friends.

Delivery driver wont be charged after killing Chesapeake man who attacked him with a knife.

My two cents: if the person who died was upset with the way the delivery driver was driving around his home, take a video, and contact the police and the delivery company.

But instead he tried to teach him a vigilante justice lesson. The outcome: he brought a knife to a gunfight and lost.

My dad told me not to play in the street unless I wanted to get flattened. They should have been playing in the street. As sad as it is, it is a street not a sidewalk.

Or in simpler words, he fucked around and found out.

I feel bad for both families. It's a senseless situation. But if your going to pull a knife or whatever his edged weapon was you better expect someone to respond in kind or more.

I'm pretty sure it was an ax btw

Sounds like self defense to me..no charges needed!

As a former driver who dealt with my share of absolute psychos, ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Wild how off wavy was on this one last night I mean come on. But also through all my ccw classes they always told me even if it's self defense you're going to be charged if you shoot someone. I don't think I've ever seen a shooting not go to trail even as open and shut as this seems to be.

Plenty of self defense cases never go to trial or get charged at all.

Those often don’t make the news at all.
