Leaf tiles I made recently! Standard Clays Dark Brown Stoneware with Standard Clays English Porcelain Slip, glazed with Celadon, ∆10 reduction. I usually do wheel throwing, so this was a fun departure.

Stonewear Japanese dishes- safe to use?

Post image

Anyone able to give a date estimate on this dishware, or whether or not it is likely to be safe to use? (Concerned about lead/cadmium paint or other harmful components)

Thanks!

Mozaik

Upvotes

Cao,
Interesuje me oprema i proces izrade mozaika.

I know they’re Japanese but I’d love to know what era, the maker and or purpose of these little cups. At first I thought tea but they’re pretty small, possible for sake?

Underglaze error. Help!

I used the shell pink design colours underglaze by walker ceramics, and this was the result I got when fired to stoneware.

I applied a stoneware gloss on top.

Why did this happen? Would this happen if I applied an earthenware glaze?

Any advice?

Work in progress Movable Dragon Prototype

As much as I hate 3D printed dragons, I do kinda like the idea of them, just not how they’re all basically the same uniform thing. So this is my first (and messy) attempt of a moving dragon sculpture, it all went mostly smoothly, but for my next one I’m testing out metal for the joints instead of making the rings by hand. I also plan to try to make smaller ones as well.

My plan for glazing is to use underglazes, and to maybe clear glaze over them in certain places that I can.

Work in progress Delftware-inspired teapot glaze (pre-kiln). First time trying!

My partner and I visited a local coffee shop/ceramics workshop today. They had a bunch of pre-made designs and shapes but I wanted something a little more unique. Wasn’t sure what to do at first, but I saw some blue and white porcelain motifs on the demo pieces and wanted to give it a go. They helped me water down the blue glaze and I used a slightly darker shade for the details. Just wanted to share because I was pleasantly surprised by the result. Any advice on technique or design is appreciated! I used a small regular paintbrush for most of the color and a squeeze bottle with a needle applicator for the details. Will update when it’s been fired!

Recently getting back into ceramics. Focused learning jewelry making and Metalsmithing for a while but now I’m trying to pull all the media together so they engage and have a dialogue. I see everything as sculpture, including my wearables. Here’s an example, I hope you enjoy it!
